Photo by Rachel Del Sordo Talk about an ideal match-up. Philly proto-punk aficionados Pissed Jeans , who released the hard-hitting Honeys earlier this year on Sub Pop Records , will tour with their labelmates and sonic ancestors Mudhoney. If you've spent any time with Honeys - particularly "Cathouse" or "Teenage Adult" - you know the bands will play totally well off one another. There might even be some possibility of Pissed Jeans, with their well-earned reputation for live ragers, upstaging the headliners. But don't be so sure on that last [...]

To err is human; to err constantly is to be a rock critic. Take me: over the course of my long career writing for such esteemed publications as Man Mustache Monthly, Dodge Pacer Owner Magazine, and Lawnmower Injury Digest I've expressed more boneheaded opinions than a ship full of halfwits. There was, for instance, the review I wrote that began, "I have seen the future of rock'n'roll, and its name is Kajagoogoo." Then there was my take on The Boss ("No way a guy named Bruce ever makes it in the [...]

KEN Mode's Entrench, 2013, Season of Mist BY JORDAN MAINZER Kill Everyone Now. For a band who takes its acronym from Henry Rollins, Winnipeg, Manitoba-based KEN Mode certainly recognize the absurd intensity of their own image. As they perform on stage, lead singer Jesse Matthewson and bassist Andrew LaCour headbang constantly; Matthewson's eyes bulge and his long-on-top-shaved-on-bottom hair flops violently. Matthewson is a skinny guy, not typical of your hard rock lead man. When he's not screaming gutturally, he sounds kind of like George McFly. When he starts playing, though, [...]
