christine hale Download: Sian Alice Group "Motionless" (from 59:59 out now on Social Registry) This interview with Sian Alice Group at L.A. RECORD cost me like $30 in Skype credits but switched to conversation in the middle and friendly goofin' off by the end so you bet it was worth it. Great folks—once we uncovered shared [...]

Pizza! - One of my favorite local bands, just announced that they will be releasing a new EP entitled "What is Love? …I Just Drifted Away" TONIGHT at their show at pehrspace with The Monolators , Caldera Lakes, and Luna is Honey . Words seriously cannot describe how much I LOVE this band. It's very rare that you see a band defy convention as much as these guys do. Their live shows are fun and boisterous, and despite the economic down turn they still give away ALL OF THEIR MUSIC ENTIRELY FOR FREE. [...]

Oh I hope this is true and is good news, and not the orignial WTF - the Croc is going to be a pizza joint response I originally had. Sounds like our beloved Crocodile is going to reopen in January/February 2009 - with pizza in the back bar area and a concert venue in the front room. Until then construction - which means hopefully there will be some view improvement in the main room, but no messing with the great sound! HOORAY!! It is good news! The beloved Hannah Levin [...]

Work sux It's finally Friday, and in the U.S. it's the beginning of a three-day weekend too! The weekend is typically the last summer blow-out before school starts, and heralds the beginning of the fall/winter holiday season, although here in SoCal the hot, muggy weather is making brisk fall days seem far, far away. Big congratulations to Lonesome Music Blog for passing their 4th anniversary earlier this month! Don't miss the gorgeous songs by Donna Beasley and Beachwood Sparks in their two latest posts. [...]

Asleep by 11:30, awake at 5:00am, and unable to fall back asleep until two-and-a-half hours later. Alarm woke me again at 9:15. These are the days of my life. I drugged myself with more Benadryl last night, and it did the trick in helping me get to sleep, but once I awoke (following an insane dope-dream involving mafia hitmen, a rock island in the middle of the ocean, and an ending complete with film credits!) I found it nearly impossible to fall back asleep. That's how it's been most of the week. Luckily I only had to work 11-4 today, [...]

Spider Problem TONIGHT at Silverlake Lounge Happy June Everyone! New Monday night residencies start TONIGHT with local super group Afternoons at Spaceland, genre bending psychadelic outfit Rumspringa at The Echo, and my personal favorite - the high energy absolutely fucking crazy Spider Problem at Silverlake Lounge. All three bands have been hovering under the radar for the past few months.
Oh, First Fridays, how lovely to see you again. So the story goes, we've been trying to get our friends The Monolators on a bill with The Underground Railroad to Candyland and Pizza! for over a year and finally the day has arrived. You see, between constant touring and playing for their beloved hometown of San Pedro, URTC don't come around to L.A. too much. This we can forgive since Mr.

Mezzanine Owls will be doing a residency at Spaceland every Monday in May. Bands scheduled to play during the residency: The Henry Clay People , In Waves , Love Like Fire , Eagle & Talon , We Barbarians , and Eli Paperboy Reed . Mezzanine Owls will also be playing at The Fillmore in San Francisco on May 29th with Swervedriver and [...]

Since I neglected to write of my weekly world news entries on Saturday, here is a belated update. If you're not interested in my reactions to headlines from around the globe, you can skip this entry and move on to the next one. Or, might I suggest making a donation to this website (see that "DONATE" button at the top-left corner of the page?) with the time you would have spent reading my drivel? Your taxes are due at midnight, and if you haven't finished your return yet, maybe you can somehow write-off your donation! Or, if you feel like [...]

Los Angeles project Pizza! Pizza! (formerly called The New Motherfuckers) will no doubt become a household name in the next few months. Why? BECAUSE EVERYONE LOVES PIZZA! DUH! These five dudes from LA play fun and saucy music ('scuse the pun I couldn't help myself) loaded with delicious synth and extra serving of low fi goodness. Don't worry they held the anchovies just for you. In true Radiohead form the gentlemen have made their entire 9 track debut album (which was released [...]
We were away for part of this week so we missed some things, but did manage to visit the Echo last night for Mezzanine Owls' 7" release show out now through JAXART. It was a great night. And great nights usually spawn great reviews and the presence of great attendees (members of Colorforms, B.R.A.M., Henry Clay, The Front/The Useless Keys, Correatown, Charlie Wadhams, Electrocute, and bloggers
