Here's a cool new track called "I'm In a Bad Way" from New Jersey based PJ Bond . I honestly don't have a whole lot to say about it other than it reminds me a bit of Jeff Tweedy meets Jim James, and that is of course a positive. The song is said to possibly be on a new LP out in 2012 but this has yet to be confirmed. I'd suggest spinning this one right before bed on one of these rainy days we've been having recently. One listen. That's all it took to infect me with the alt-grungy singer songwriter treat that was PJ Bond's last album, You Didn't Know I was Alphabetical . Riding the crest of some amazing singer-songwriters that we've reviewed here at the Ripple recently like Matt Pond and Cory Case , PJ Bond crafted an album that literally defined the singer/songwriter genre. At times sassy and poppy, at others melancholic and sparse, You Didn't Know I was Alphabetical never failed to captivate. When I was a kid, [...]
Radfest was this past weekend. I saw some bands. Not every band I saw is mentioned below, and unfortunately I had to leave early Saturday before most of the headliners. Instead of trying to describe every show, h ere's the Totally RT-able day-and-a-half of Radfest recap. Every entry in 140 characters or less. Oh yeah, follow me on Twitter: @deckfight [...]

At times sassy and poppy, at others melancholic and sparse, You Didn't Know I was Alphabetical never fails to captivate and demonstrates a brilliant songsmith at the peak of his form. PJ Bond is the kind of guy who absolutely rules open mic sessions. The guy who could play for 6 hours without repeating a song, if only the owner let him. The kind of guy who plays 14 songs you've never heard before and all of which you love, but you don't want to tell him you like it for fear of not recognizing something classic by someone important. The kind of guy who has developed such a studied appreciation of so many different artists and styles that even when the song is an original, it feels like it [...]

Capgun Coup: "Sitting on the Sidewalk" Enjoying the few songs I've heard from Capgun Coup's new album, Maudlin . Released last week from Team Love, the Omaha group spent some time in the famed Hotel Frank making some nice lo-fi, complemented with some cool 60s surf vibes. I thought of Birds of Avalon, Be Your Own Pet, The Vivian Girls and Times New Viking (gotta stop posting about them). Maybe they're all similar in style rather than substance. Check Capgun Coup here at Team Love and on [...]
