Enjoy! Aievea - Joy Of Life Vlaicu Golcea and Electric Brother are two incredibly [...]

Is there legitimate Chinese rock? I mean cool Chinese rock music. One with street credit. I thought it was a myth. All the Chinese music I've heard since 1995 has sucked. So I've been on a half-assed quest to find some. I think we're getting closer to some good Chinese (indie) music. There are Chinese music blogs (they also write about English-speaking indie rock), like http://www.wooozy.cn popping up and some indie Chinese labels like Maybe Mars . Sonic Youth and Yeah Yeah Yeahs have played in Chinese music festivals so maybe there's finally market for this [...]

Today was new music discovery Wednesday for HappyParts. It was on my planner to learn about the indie music world in China. Following the long-tail, and knowing there are indeed authentic concerns for Chinese Youth to rebel against, the music must be on fire. I discovered a tour thats in mid-flight back east. (Ironically, not lots of coverage from jetset outposts - beyond Brooklyn Vegan - godspeed 4 the Mp3's) The tour is being presented by one of two, indies from Beijing, Maybe Mars . (What is the other label? Do Tell.) Maybe Mars also operates a club in Bejing called D-22 . Their artists cite influences [...]

Time magazine has highlighted five Asian acts to watch for 2008. Making the cut are Singapore's chicktronica The Analog Girl, Japanese experimentalist Cornelius, Chinese punkers P.K. 14, Indonesia's synth-poppers Goodnight Electric and Phillipines jazz-hop outfit The Out Of Body Special. It's a respectable list, no doubt. But then again, the reps all hail from those usual suspects, with none from the Middle East or some other less 'indie' nation. Which means they totally ignored the Siamese crocodiles of Cambodia, whose mating calls resemble an Arcade Fire b-side. They also overlooked the morning wails of the Eld deer [...]

I'm glad that miss low has had a fun time here in China, and I'm quite content about how she described here and I fully appreciate her work. Being a Beijing local, I think it's necessary to make a bit filler post to Low's Wo ai ni. Let's simply name it: wo ye ai ni (I love you too) 1. Mu Liang Wen Wang - Jing Diao 2. QueenSea Big Shark - Hold Your Hand 3. Snapline - [...]
