Hate to confuse you more with yet another format change, although this one should be fairly simple. Classic Track Monday has officially left the building, leaving the coveted Monday slot open for an all-new 'weekly review', the purpose of which is basically to document every one of the tracks that've been posted here in the past week, in an easy to digest, bite-size format (Jesus, I'm beginning to sound like I want to help with your revision. I assure you that this isn't the case.). Really, what could be easier to understand? A few things, admittedly, but unless [...]
Finding that Josie and the Pussy Cats track yesterday lost in the recesses of iTunes got me wondering about what other hidden gems are buried in my music library. In the olden days, I would go to the shelf and scan the rows of alphabetically and chronologically organized vinyl, cassettes and CDs and look for something I hadn't heard in a while or to revisit an old favourite. Nowadays I select RANDOM and cross my fingers and hope for the best. Today though, I dived in looking for something special; something I forgot I had. There's [...]
Rock Dot Rock - You Are You Black Lips - Not A Problem The Flaming Lips - Fight Test Gogol Bordello - Start Wearing Purple Placebo - Protege Moi/Protect Me From What I Want The Arcade Fire - Cold Wind

Urgh. Christmas is officially here. Last night was my first Christmas party. An afternoon and evening of overblown festivities, surrounded by media luvvies air kissing, back slapping, back biting and generally loving themselves. I sought solace in a continual downing of vodka and cokes. For just over 13 hours. Somewhere along the line, I found myself some Christmas lights and proceeded to wear them draped across my person. Somehow I managed to get on a train and find my way home. That was yesterday. Today, it feels like there's a drum practice in my [...]

Last Thursday, Howling Bells were in session for Mark Radcliffe, and said some very lovely things about how nice Brian Molko was. Virtue, it seems, is it own reward, but public virtue comes with a nice dollop of work attached - the band have today been named as the support for the Placebo tour of Europe. These are the dates: Tues 28 November â€" ANTWERP â€" Sportpalais Thurs 30 November â€" OBERHAUSEN - Oberhausen Arena Fri 1 December - ROTTERDAM - Ahoy Halle Weds 6 December â€" GLASGOW - SECC Thurs 7 December - [...]

London, UK This Kate Bush cover from Placebo played last night during the opening scene of The O.C. and then once again about 40 minutes into the show. It appeared on the limited edition Sleeping With Ghosts about three years ago and then resurfaced again earlier this year as part of Q Magazine 's Covered CD. "Running Up That Hill" Placebo on MySpace

It's Sunday. It's cold outside. And it's the kinda day when you just want to snuggle under the covers. So it's time for a covers post. And these I guess are kind of unusual covers. Leeds indie legends covering a soul legend . Glam goth rockers covering an MOR 80's crooner . And the archetypal punk poetess covering the little purple squiggle or whatever he calls himself these days. Odd choices. But choices that seem to work. In [...]
MATTHEW JAY - Draw Aug 28, 2001 Capitol Its too bad Matthew died back in September 2003. I never did find out if it was suicide or murder, but I wish we woulda had a few more albums from this young lad from the UK..At least we have Draw to remember him by. [...]
Of course, any Placebo is better than no Placebo, and who wouldn't love the reworking of the stuff from the recent album? Set free from the trickery of studio wizardry, Placebo at Reading threw a lot more weight onto Brian's vocals - doubly so, as it seems they were having all kinds of trouble. Frustratingly, the TV coverage seemed to want to keep things tidy and so made every effort to keep the scampering guitar tech out of shot, the way Parliamentary coverage refuses to focus on the noises of off protest and confusion, so it was hard to tell [...]
Can I just tell you how excited I am for this one? November 7th @ Nokia Theater! Tix on sale next Friday at noon (Ticketbastard)! Unfortunately I'm not the hugest fan of Nokia Theater plus the show is with god-awful She Wants Revenge (yikes).. but... Placebo hasn't been to our neck of the woods in nearly 3 years. I'm elated! Who else is making/dreading the trek to Times Square on 11/7? [...]
To illustrate these theme, I chose Placebo . Why? Because Brian Molko loves to name-drop people in his lyrics, and that is one of the reasons I love Placebo. They seem always to have the right lyrics for the right melodies. And these 5 songs I chose - 3 of them being B-Sides - are some of the best examples. Then The Clouds Will Open For Me is a B-Side which features Brian alone with his acoustic guitar. One of [...]

After last night, today seems as appropriate an occasion to post this Placebo session as any. I ended up in Wolverhampton's Rock pub last night surrounded by hairy man swishing their hair in time to the heavy beats of many a popular hard rock beat combo whose main lyrics seem to consist of roaring and shouting. Not to mention several goth transvestites who despite wearing tight pvc dresses, corsets, wigs and the like, still seemed to be amongst the most masculine people in the room. Not that it stopped one particularly drunk [...]
Dear golly gosh, but it's warm outside. It's almost as if it's Summer. I'm about to go see Superman Returns. I don't have any preconceptions about how amazing/terrible it's going to be - all I ask is that there's none of this stupid flying-around-the-world-really -fast-to-turn-back-time malarky. Anyway, in case you're all getting a bit jolly because the sun is a-shining, then here are some not-bad Smiths covers to get you back into a mood of general greyness. Listen to them while I'm at the pictures and figure this out in your head: who'd win in a fight [...]
