Note from Jason: I'm a sucker for "The Bends"-era Radiohead. Plajia (pronounced "plah-gee-ah") scratches that itch nicely! Lauded by music critics in Canada and abroad, trip-rock group Plajia, composed of Patrick Pleau (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards and harmonica), Simon Boivin (bass and backing vocals) and Pascal Laviolette (drums, percussion and backing vocals) feels compelled to buy a crystal ball in order to preview its future successes. But let's get back to ongoing reality. With its first sonic offering entitled "Beautiful Explosion", the Montreal trio renews a struggling tradition in this hypermodern and [...]

Canadian band alert. Yes it's true the Great White North has unleashed yet another band. Plajia , as one might expect from the netherworld up there, writes massively huge songs as well as they write quirky off kilter pop songs. It's kind of like if err...Of Montreal were actually from there and hung out with Chris Martin. Anyway, Plajia has recently released it's album called Beautiful Explosion it's eleven songs of quirky grandiosity that's imaginative and quite good. So much so, Plajia has recently been [...]

[mp3] beautiful explosion - plajia more here . ah, suffolk county. good ^^ ... bad / ugly also, vox is dead ! and ... i wonder what mcleatherjacket is up to here ?

I know, it's been long. Really, really long. Almost like last summer, when I've been shut away in internet-less Swanage. Ah, let's not think about that one. Anyway, two festivals, exams and some accidents concerning my beloved car have kept me from posting, but now I'm on vacation and I have time.. until two weeks, where I'll be heading to another festival. Anyway, since I embarrassingly failed to post some pictures of Southside Festival, I'll do so with the Melt! one. It was absolutely amazing, though exhausting. T(I)NC were lovely as ever, Late Of The [...]

Hey guys, here are the 2 extra tunes I promised from the Canadian emerging trio, Plajia. Enjoy! "Sleeping" | download "This House" | download Plajia | Myspace | Tour Dates | Buy

Plajia is a trip-rock band from Montreal Canada. They just released their debut album called Beautiful Explosion via Orange Music. Lauded by music critics in Canada and abroad, the band is composed of Patrick Pleau (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards and harmonica), Simon Boivin (bass and backing vocals) and Pascal Laviolette (drums, percussion and backing vocals). Listen to this tune that it is included on the debut record. It is a long rocking prog song with funk influences and Pink Floyd sounding [...]
We recently received an e-mail from a Canadian called Plajia. Plajia is different from most of the music we receive. These guys are really, really good. The most interesting thing to me is that they sent us 5 songs, and under the "genre" tab on Itunes there were 3 different genres. They describe two songs as "Rock", two as "Ballad", and one as "Psychedelic." This just sort of shows how different each one of their songs are. The band consists of 3 members. Patrick Pleau: lead vocals, guitars, keyboards and harmonica, Simon Boivin: bass and backing vocals, and Pascal Laviolette: [...]
Listening: 1. Shock of Pleasure : Everybody wants to bring something back, and I say let's bring back Trip-hop! This Dallas band has the formula down, and they are about blow-up. The voice of Kelley Christian is pure pleasure. Listen to: Superstar (Carpenter's Cover) ( mp3 ) 2. Plajia : Sugary pop for Montreal... you have to be kidding! No, it's true Plajia is from Montreal and they poppy, key board infused dance-pop. However, they have a unique sense of attitude and a rapid shifting sounds. Listen to: Beautiful Explosion ( mp3 [...]
Plajia , composed of Patrick Pleau (lead vocals, guitars, keyboards and harmonica), Simon Boivin (bass and backing vocals) and Pascal Laviolette (drums, percussion and backing vocals), is another Canadian band to make it's way onto SYDNEYSOUDNER this year.... (now I know what it feels like for all the other blogs being flooded with Aussie upstarts!) Anyway, they released their debut album in 2007 to the following reviews: ...From gripping beginning to grandiose end, [ Beatiful Explosion 's] voyage through eleven songs transports us in an impressionist soundscape, where unbridled [...]

bono and i apparently have similar weekend plans . (just on different continents with totally different people.) more pics and: [mp3] God's waiting in line - plajia "trip rock" from the montreal based band plajia [ myspace ] happy weekend peeps ~
Who knows what they put in the water up in Canada but whatever it is, it has this ability to make frickin' awesome bands. The latest one to come my way is the strangely named Plajia. Hailing from Montreal, Plajia actually sound like they're from outer space as opposed to the largest French speaking city outside of France. As for the band their this pretty much sums it up, "From gripping beginning to grandiose end, their voyages through time and space transport us in an impressionist soundscape, where unbridled imagination, open emotion and gleeful sarcasm colour [...]

"making soup or making songs" From Montreal, Plajia just released our debut album called Beautiful Explosion on Orange Music Records. "Plajia is escapism without leaving the comfort of your own couch." For a debut this isn't bad music, but it's a little too whiney for me. The lyrics are fantastic and the keyboard work makes me smile; it adds a dreamy effect to the whine. Perhaps whine isn't the best word, I just feel the vocals hang on a bit too long. [...]

But I'm back now and so far behind on getting the good stuff to you. I've received a plethora of wealth in my absence that is desperately needed to be shared, so today's posts are going to be frequent and jam-packed with more multiple eargasms than you could ever imagine. Shock of Pleasure is a Dallas-based electrolounge trip-hop act that I can't seem to quit since they contacted me a few days ago. I've heard too many renditions of The Carpenters' Superstar to count, but [...]

( Orange Music , 2008) Every now and again I get emails from bands asking me if I'll accept a copy of their album for review. The first thing I do in such cases is take a trip to their Myspace page for a quick listen, as I don't want to commit to anything blindly (and I don't like slagging people too much-I mean, who the hell am I anyway?). Usually, at least in the case of Canadian bands, I take the ol' "what the hell" approach and opt to give it a go [...]
Ever since the Jake Mann fiasco that I got myself into, I try to be pretty quick to write about bands that I've actually been in contact with. This does not usually end up happening, however! Indeed, I told the singer for Plajia , a Canadian indie band, that I'd have something written within a week... and that was 12 days ago! Clearly, my laziness is just as prolific as ever. Anyway, if you have enjoyed pretty much any Canadian indie, you will almost certainly enjoy their song Beautiful Explosion . It's catchy, but not annoyingly [...]
