Plants and Animals - Control Me I'm sitting on a plastic chair at a bunch of hawker stalls drinking Heineken. It's almost 5 bucks for the bottle, but it's 640 mL. I guess that's a fair price, it just feels like a lot since nothing else is more than $2 here. I don't want to go home. There, camped in the living room, is Nida. She's Nick's Thai girlfriend. Kind of. She decided to surprise him with a visit, except he decided to move to America permanently without [...]

Plants and Animals are headlining a show at Bottom of the Hill tonight and it's not sold out. Nevermind the fact that Bottom of the Hill is a relatively small venue and a band this talented should have sold it out months ago; today is May 18th and Plants and Animals are headlining a show tonight. Nevermind that they have twice the talent and 4 times the songwriting ability as the majority of "hot" indie bands right now (purely objective statement), that they aren't packing places like the Fillmore and Great American on their own; I only have to pay $12 for [...]

Montreal's Plants and Animals , supporting the catchy new album The End of That , plays Schubas tonight (Friday). Plants and Animals probably appeals to fans of White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic and maybe even fellow Montreal popsters Islands . Lightshow - Plants and Animals

English indie rockers Bombay Bicycle Club have been putting in some heavy touring hours since releasing their third LP, A Different Kind of Fix , last year. Since the start of oh-twelve, they've hit everywhere from Tokyo to Mexico City, and they're showing no sign of slowing down. A summer tour and mass of fests - from Pinkpop to T in the Park to Lollapalooza to the inaugural Firefly - is already on their docket, and now they've added a fresh leg of North American for this fall. Their [...]

No scene is more antithetical to the jamband-based festival scene than that of the hardcore punks. Since time immemorial (or maybe just since the late '70s, the annals are unclear), the two groups have existed in mutually exclusive worlds. For good reason too; other than sharing the same general mindset of inclusiveness, each group achieves their sense of musical nirvana in drastically different forms. In the time it takes moe. or Phish to kick out one of their epic jams, a hardcore outfit might be able to run through their entire catalog as well as two encores and the noodle-armed [...]
Last week when we stopped in at Mercury Lounge to catch a blazing set from Plants and Animals , we also managed to get a video of the title track from their latest full length, The End Of That . We think you'll agree that it's a killer clip - check it out above!

[Photos courtesy of Patrick Proctor at Hippies Are Dead ] The Montreal band Plants and Animals has been at this for awhile now - they released their first EP in 2004 - and experience has clearly served them well, developing them into a band with considerable chops and obvious stage presence. This show at Mercury Lounge came on the heels of the release of their third record, The End of That, a document of the three-piece's continuing commitment to big, 70s-inspired rock. Big is a broad but appropriate word for [...]

Plants and Animals first appeared on my radar — I'm not from Clinton , but I do take pride in my radar (and in obscure references to small town Ontario) — when they were shortlisted for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize . Those Polaris folks are smart, so I knew they were a band worth watching. Admittedly, I hadn't been paying them much attention lately, but that made my visit to Lee's Palace all the more intriguing. Plants and Animals music could alternately be described as folk, rock, and sometimes even orchestral. What really [...]
Plants and Animals are an acclaimed indie rock group from Montreal, brought to Lexington by the fine folk at WRFL. I went into the show at Cosmic completely cold, not having any idea of how they would sound but the popular opinion from people I talked to in the days leading up to the show [...]

Last night we stopped in at Mercury Lounge for Plants And Animals ' second show in a two night New York run. Packed into the tiny room, the show was exactly what we had hoped for: a raucous celebration of rock and roll energy combined with a solid dose of musical wizardry and prowess. The band, who continue to reach new heights each time we see them, delivered a killer set for an appreciative crowd, and left us unquestionably hungry for more. Since the last time [...]
