Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Canada Canadian '80s teen idols Platinum Blonde reunited Wednesday night after nearly a 20-year absence from the stage. As the headliners of the opening night of Canadian Music Fest , lead singer Mark Holmes, guitarist Sergio Galli and drummer Chris Steffler -- bassist Kenny MacLean died in 2008 -- played to a packed Mod Club theatre filled with gen-Xers reliving their teenage fantasies. Kicking off well past most of the audience's weekday bedtime, the show [...]

I have a Valentines mix tape that I made for the sloppy make-out party we are throwing, the Broken Hearts Ball . It's not too sappy... It has a bit of anti valentines stuff along with some sweetheart stuff to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Hunk The Drunk - Broken Hearts Valentines Mix Tape Tracklisting: Intro Lykke Li - Dance. Dance. In 2007 I saw Songs From A Room three times from August to December . The fact that I had only planned on seeing them one of those times is a testament to what a hard working band they are, as well as the caliber of bands that they have had the privilege of sharing the stage with. Their first EP was a throat shredding, mind numbing display of post punk with a leaning towards the hardcore. Yesterday, the band released their latest EP for digital download on iTunes and Dine Alone [...]

Although successful in Canada, the band never achieved the hoped-for sales and, after one last attempt at a relaunch as The Blondes, they fell apart. A 1999 reboot didn't feature MacLean and this, too petered out after a few months. MacLean went on to have a wide range of solo successes - on the night of his death he had been at a part celebrating [...]

Bongo Jazz was saddened yesterday to hear about the death of Kenny MacLean. For most, he will be best remembered as the bass player for Platinum Blonde, a hugely popular band in Canada during the mid-'80s who were, admittedly, thinly guised Duran Duran copycats. Suffice to say, Platinum Blonde were not my kind of thing and, as a young music writer learning the ropes, I surely took a few good swings at 'em in print at the height of their success. I thought they were fakes, flawlessly designed by accountants in some music industry boardroom to con 16-year-old girls to [...]

I woke up to this on the radio. The whole day has been tainted by it's supreme radness. Platinum Blond - Situation Critical
