Memory Tapes will be showcasing 'Player Piano' live this summer and the band will be expanded from the previous duo of Dayve and drummer Matt Maraldo

Memory Tapes has a new full-length called Player Piano coming on July 4 on Carpark / Something in Construction . Listen to an early version of album jam " Today is Our Life " that we posted earlier this year below: mp3: Memory Tapes :: Today is Our Life __________ elsewhere : We're nominated for " Best Music Blog " in MTV's new O Music Awards thing. A couple of months ago a new song by Memory Tapes called "Today Is Our Life" came completely out of the blue, and Dayve Hawk, the man behind the moniker, confirmed that it was indeed from his upcoming second album. Since then we've been waiting eagerly - even more eagerly than we would have been normally considering the quality of "Today Is Our Life" - to hear more details of the new album. Today Hawk has confirmed the release of Player Piano . The follow up to Seek Magic has a confirmed release date of [...]

Dayve Hawk, the man who led the chillwave vanguard and then transcended it, is set to release Player Piano , his second album as Memory Tapes , on 4 July. Memory Tapes' debut, Seek Magic , remains one of the touchstone records of the final part of the last decade. Presumably thinking it makes little sense to mess with a formula that yielded 30,000 sales worldwide, Hawk has made the follow-up in the same environment - his New Jersey home studio. According to Hawk, Player Piano takes [...]

November I've always thought was kind of okay. It's the start of the chilly season, so short days, wrapping up warm and eating big hearty meals by the fire in my fictional country home that lives in my mind, seems all cosy and romantic. Come February you'll find I have a rather different attitude to the colder season, which is generally one of 'FUCK THE FUCK OFF!'. But for now, get a woolly jumper on, drink some warm cider and make the most of the insane amount of live music going on right now. Last week (as [...]

Well, after a bit of a lull last week there's all sorts of crap going on in and around Edinburgh this week, so choose wisely because trying to attend everything could just be the end of you. As well as the usual recommendations there are a couple of half-recommendations this week; gigs I feel I should want to go to, but am actually not that fussed about. Crystal Antlers (I mean, come on, they have Crystal in their name, they have to be good, almost as guaranteed as having Fuck in your name last year, or Bear the [...]

Hello everyone - sorry for the lateness of this post, but unfortunately sometimes actual jobs with wages and things have to take precedence over things Toad, just for a little while. I have spent the day at a meeting in Inverness, and I am desperate for a really good sleep. There's not a lot on in Edinburgh this week as far as I can tell. The brilliant Animal Magic Tricks is playing pretty much as I write this, and I am gutted that I won't get the chance to see her. Well, not until Saturday, anyway, which is [...]
< Day One Day Three > I awoke with a considerable hangover on Saturday, but a bloody great greasy breakfast saw to that. Tattie scones - anyone outside Scotland know them? Magic for mopping up the egg yolk and bacon grease from your plate as you swill the last of your coffee. I did some husbandly things in [...]
