Photograph by Jamie Soja for eastbayexpress.com Q: So, I hear you've been recording some tracks to follow up your self-titled debut. The response must have been good, huh? [...]

Drawing inspiration from classic folk-pop ( Strawberry Alarm Clock , The Mamas & the Papas ), neo-psych/chamber pop ( Belle & Sebastian , The Polyphonic Spree ) and experimental/indie-rock ( Broken Social Scene , Please Quiet Ourselves ), Vancouver CA's The Greenbelt Collective is a quirky mix of old and new. Tracks such as Aerotropolis and Our Homes from the album, Our Homes [ buy ], are playful yet sophisticated at the same time. Enjoy. [...]

Berkeley, CA Please Quiet Ourselves is most often described as infectious jangly indie pop, and the lead singer is only 15. Look out Jonas Brothers - you may have some competition! "Minors Vs. Majors" Please Quiet Ourselves on MySpace Please Quiet Ourselves on The Hype Machine
Baby Dee - "Safe Inside the Day" . Dee sent Antony (of the Johnsons) songs, thinking Antony might want to cover one. Antony said no but uh someone should put these out. And someone did. And then Bonnie Prince Billy heard them and he and Matt Sweeney played with Baby Dee in Cleveland and Bonnie Prince Billy said uh can we record you? And they did, for Drag City, on an album that was released on January 22nd. And this is the title & opening track, a song that is hurled with so much spirit that it could pin [...]

* Please Quiet Ourselves-Antibodies * Please Quiet Ourselves-The Light * [...]
Here are some of the highlights that arrived at our inbox in the last month or so: * New Thrill Parade 's noisy, piss'd and dark 3rd album is coming out on Wonder Quest soon. The sludgy beginning of the track made this an instant fave but the theatrical vocals (a la a gothed-up Tiger Lillies) sealed the deal. Band to watch!. * Wait til the ice melts , compilation on Exponential is an emerging artists from Texas sampler which is mostly electronic music with hiphopish beats. I quite liked [...]
Please Quiet Ourselves are one of the most fascinating bands I've heard recently. With a sound similar to that of Broken Social Scene or Modest Mouse with a heavily sedated Issac Brock, the seven piece band create soft, beautiful, and quite passionate music. Oh, did we mention the Berkley, California based band range an age [...]
An ambitious band of high school students, Please Quiet Ourselves offers irresistible push-your-buttons-in-just-the- right-way pop on Mushpot debut. Effervescent acoustic-guitar-clad Jojo Brandel easily handles on-stage banter well, a skill with which most seasoned artists struggle. Dubbed the California bay area's "Baby Modest Mouse", it is impressive how Brandel brought together seven other talented 15 to 16-year-old high schoolers to create a textured blanket of sound, at times, akin to that of Broken Social Scene. Please Quiet Ourselves started as an eighth grade film project soundtrack. Rather than steal a collage of trendy and popular songs, Brandel decided [...]

Color Chart , the quirky opener on the phenomenal self-titled debut [ buy ] from Please Quiet Ourselves , asks " What about orange makes it so damn special? What about orange makes it --- orange? ". As I listened to the rest of the album, I found myself asking: What about Please Quiet Ourselves makes them so damn special? What about Please Quiet Ourselves makes them --- Please Quiet Ourselves? PQO's songs are special [...]

There have been some comparisons made between veteran odd-balls Modest Mouse and the new Berkeley, CA group Please Quite Ourselves . While there are some textual and constructive similarities between the two, I would argue that the pair are quite far apart. Don't get me wrong here, I'm a huge fan of the Mouse, but with their music, the off-kilter approach (in terms of lyrics, in terms of notes, in terms of who knows what's gonna come next...) has begun to feel expected at this point. It's almost a fabricated clumsiness. One that [...]
They are probably quite young because their bio makes lots of references in the present tense to their school going days. Hmmm, matters not a jot really because for the majority of these whippersnapper gangs the snot gets in the way of listenable creation. Please Quiet Ourselves (memorise it) are one of those rare exceptions though that crop up from time to time. They already have a debut album

What do you get when you mix 6 or more 13-16 year-olds, sunny California weather, and a nice selection of musical instruments? Apparently, as Please Quiet Ourselves has shown, you get some pretty awesome indie-pop and a feeling like you're listening to the younger, West-Coast version of Broken Social Scene. " Antibodies " - Please Quiet Ourselves " The Light " - Please Quiet Ourselves I'm loving the layered sound in "The Light". Keep it up guys! Please Quiet Ourselves Genre: Indie / Pop From: Berkeley, California, United States Grammatically incorrect and shockingly youthful Berkeley collective, Please Quiet Ourselves, grew out of a soundtrack that Jojo Brandel created for a school film project. Experimenting with snatches of noise rock and pieces from the Black Orpheus soundtrack Brandel created 'Color Chart', a short pop [...]

These kids are alright! Please Quiet Ourselves is a collection of teenagers making some awesome sounding indie rock. They've been referred to as a baby version of Modest Mouse, but that's not cutting these kids enough slack. They're multi-layered instrumentals have more in common with Broken Social Scene than Isaac Brock and co, and not just because of the number of members (at last count 8), but because of their prog-like tendencies married with a strong sense of melody and pop sensibility. Please Quiet Ourselves "Antibodies" ~ taken from [...]
