When Hawks frontman Mike Keenan takes the stage wearing a pope's hat and an old priest frock looking every bit as disheveled and deranged as a homeless psychopath, you know you're in for a bruiser. At that point, your options are pretty limited: you can head for the hills or belly up to the stage and take your lashings with humility and a shit-eating grin. Last Friday night's record release show at Star Bar was not the best performance I've seen from the four-piece—their sound suffered somewhat from an inexplicably low vocal mix—but the [...]
White Rabbits | Gull April 5, 2012 Plush For White Rabbits (for Gull, too) music is not a tender nerve. It is not a quiet moment of confession. It is a raging, delirious case of id, an animal i... Continue reading "White Rabbits at Plush, 5/5/12: Review, Photos and Setlist" >

Atlanta noise pugilists HAWKS are hard at work on their followup to last year's brutal and brilliant RUB , and last week the band gave fans their first taste of the new material in the form of a three-song sampler posted on their Bandcamp page. For those hoping for more of the group's bludgeoning hardcore fury and abrasive noise-rock spasms, there's plenty to like here with "Colossus" leading a furious onslaught of strident screams and slashing guitars. But while these three tracks maintain the same nasty, vile-tempered spirit of chaos and violence that has come [...]

![[Introducing] – Robot Science](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3292712_lg.jpg)
While I wouldn't consider myself an electronica aficionado, like fellow LBYB writer Leisha, I do enjoy a good mix when I hear it. This new artist, Robot Science, or Charlie Yin as he's better known to his classmates, is a student at UC Berkley. Yin sounds like your typical Chinese-American undergrad (despite being freakishly tall for an Asian, 6'23), however, he's got a whole other side to him that drops insanely inventive tracks. I wouldn't mind having him for a dormmate. Need music to study? Ask Yin to play "Plush." Need music to sleep? Play the mellow track, [...]

This New York trio has a new album called "Disconnect From Desire" being released on July 12th. They'll be touring in support of the album, alongside Active Child , and making an appearance at Plush in Tucson on October 5th. MP3: School Of Seven Bells - Babelonia

Japanese post-rock legends MONO celebrated their 10th year as a band with a string of two sold-out shows in New York City last spring. However, these weren't your average shows. The band was joined by Wordless Orchestra in a performance that was 30 people strong and left everyone at the shows stunned. Luckily for those of us that weren't blessed enough to catch this, the concert was captured on film and will be released as a CD+DVD, as well as a limited-edition 3xLP+DVD. "Holy Ground: NYC Live with the Wordless Music Orchestra" will be released on [...]

I was already terribly excited for the release of Midlake's new album The Courage of Others , but recent events have elevated that excitement to new heights. The first of which is the 123 release "Acts of Man"/"Rulers, Ruling All Things," which contains two tracks from the forthcoming album. I've included these below for your enjoyment. Yes, I know I spoil you. The second and equally awesome piece of news is that the band will be dropping by Plush in Tucson on March 1st in support of their new album, which will be released on [...]
Future Of Film Viewing The New Movie Theatre is here and it looks supa-fly. Much better then getting gum stuck on your shoes in a place decorated like your Grandma's place. Hopefully tickets are not too tax.

As a longtime fan of the Pernice Brothers and having enjoyed Joe Pernice 's first novella, Meat Is Murder , from the 33 1/3 series, I'm looking forward to reading It Feels So Good When I Stop . However, I haven't had a chance to read it yet, so I can only assess the album on its own worth. The album sounds as if Pernice had you over to play a random assortment of songs in his living room, and unfortunately the result simply isn't as good [...]

It Feels So Good When I Stop. Op de soundtrack tref je [...]

My head is pounding this morning from the endless supply of free vodka consumed last nite so I need to keep it short and sweet before I drag myself into a hot shower and seize the day. Here is a very nice track by the trio Plush. Rene Moore, Angela Winbush and Bobby Watson handled the songwriting and production on this one and Tee Scott did the remix. Smooth. Plush - Free and Easy
