This morning I'm emptying the mailbox and listening my way through some of the MP3's that recently been sent my way. Below I've posted some of the listenable ones (including a few words from the press material): + Pratique - Death For Blushing Rogue " Formed this year, they set to creating the most melodic bass lines this side of disco, punchy, mathematical beats, and brilliant brit-pop inspired guitar work. " + Sick of Sarah - [...]

This is basically an ideal scenario: An artist just starts out making music, finishes a few songs, and starts sending off e-mails to bloggers. I, being a blogger, receive one of these e-mails. I grab the attached mp3, queue it up, and immediately fall in love. Why can't everything be so perfect? Sounding much like a modern Depeche Mode, Dan Ingala aka Plushgun crafts some very awesome electro-pop. Like a young Jimmy Tamborello, Dan crafts memorable, catchy, electronic music. Unlike Jimmy and The Postal Service, however, Dan does his own vocals. The [...]

Plushgun presents a great mix of indie rock and electronic undertones in today's track "Just Impolite", which is self-described as "indie-electro-licious!" and it sure is. A one man project by a 23 year old classical composer from New York, Plushgun has set to create some excellent music, with excellent vocals and incredibly professional production for an unsigned artist. The music is a real hoot to listen to, and if you're lucky enough to be in the New York area, the premier Plushgun show is set for September 27th at "The Bitter End" ( more info ). I hope you will [...]

I'll have to make this brief, I'm having a hugely busy time of things at the moment, and my Glastonbury preparations are nowhere near complete. I'm really not looking forward to the mudbath that awaits me in Somerset this week, but given that I've paid 150 quid for it, and the lineup looks incredible, I'll quit my moaning and just have a good time. Scout Niblett - Dinosaur Egg This is a beautiful little ditty about, variously, a Dinosaur Egg, [...]

It's only an EP and I'm completely enthralled. Plushgun is essentially on person; Dan Ingala. He's brilliant! You can tell that he lives and breathes this music. From New York, New York he kind of just popped up on the scene and quite frankly he made an instant fan of me. A select few will know why I love one of their songs in particular, but all of the tracks on this EP are excellent. It's soft, it's catchy, it's got the synthesizers and the keyboards. I love it! I am all about [...]

Again, my apologies to my readers. I was on vacation and out of town for the last week and a half, and though I thought I would be able to post, I just didn't get around to it. I'm hoping to get back to some regularity pretty soon here. In any case, I promised an exclusive EP some time ago, and here it is. The artist is Plushgun, and from the moment I heard 'Just Impolite', I've been wanting to hear more. Having been in contact with the mind behind this project, Dan Ingala, [...]
It's time to share some of the excellent new music we've discovered through myspace. Sometimes it takes us awhile to post music we've heard on myspace, because we actually take the time to listen to it thoroughly and to investigate the band behind the music. Enjoy these jewels from the goldmine of myspace! Deathbot Deathbot is a collaboration of two young men who are influenced by alt-country. These songs don't sound like they came from two guys out of San [...]

Plushgun , who I've mentioned earlier , has an EP up for listening (though not downloading or buying) on Myspace. I'm inclined to be disappointed; the energetic beat of Just Impolite camouflaged the tremendous sentimentality of the vocals, and new tracks "The Dark in You" and "An Aria" aren't nearly as balanced. I'm going to be the ravenous fan and demand more before I make up my mind; you may notice that it's the same mp3 and the same image between the two entries. That's all there is! For the degree of polish [...]

Just Impolite starts out sounding a whole lot like Postal Service, with luminous, upbeat electronica and a thin tenor; the vocals become less Gibbardly as the song goes on, although I couldn't say what they do become. Sadly, that's the only Plushgun song; it'd be nice to hear an EP's worth of this and get a feel for the range of the band. tags: [Music] , [mp3] , [Myspace] , [Postal Service] , [Plushgun]

I mentioned in a previous post that I used to dabble in the visual arts. I had a raw, fairly modest talent for drawing and painting that has long since atrophied into insignificance. Most of blame for that lies with my utter lack of anything even vaguely resembling discipline and my total disdain for repetitive tasks, but the decisive factor that killed any interest I had in becoming an artist was the Drawing 101 class I took as a sophomore in college. The class was taught by an MBA graduate student who had been an undergrad art major. [...]
