Point Juncture WA chose a fine time to start knocking the cover off of the ball. Their third record, Heart to Elk , has been picked up by Seattle label Mt. Fuji Records and was given wide release in February. Seattle indie radio behemoth KEXP has been wearing down the grooves of Heart to Elk for months. The band is now preparing for a national tour in support of fellow Portlanders The Thermals and the Shaky Hands , to be capped triumphantly by their first [...]

Et dans les bras, un plein panier de produits frais, piochés sur quelques blogs anglo-saxons de tendances comme Gorilla vs Bear , You ain't No Picasso , 3 hive , etc.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart The Pains of [...]

If there's one album to recommend out of this week's bunch, it would certainly be Aboa Sleeping from the Finnish duo Burning Hearts . It's one of the better pop albums i've heard this year from beginning to end, which is a shame since the album isn't getting nearly the amount of coverage that it deserves. You can read the preview post from a couple of weeks ago right here . Other notable albums out this week include It's Not Me, It's You from Lily Allen , Dan [...]
Pretty solid release lineup this week. Let me be your friendly guide about what's good and what to skip. Good: Ben Folds , Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys), Lily Allen , Madlib , Malajube , Napalm Death Skip: Um... yeah, I got nothing. Like I said, solid week. There are a lot on here I know nothing about and a lot that I haven't heard, so I can't speak about. :: An Horse , Rearrange Beds (Mom & [...]

Not long after embarking on our investigation of A Weather scene-mates Point Juncture, WA , we received an email from a bona fide A Weather side project, Exploration Team . The Portland, Ore.-based quintet is led by A Weather guitarist Aaron Krenkel (not to be confused with fronter Aaron Gerber -- apparently every third indie rocker in Portland is named Aaron). Mr. Krenkel's wife Alynn (we assume Alynn Nelson, also of the A Weather cohort) sings and plays keys on some if not all of the tracks on the act's recently self-released [...]

It's no surprise to anybody minding indie rock in recent years that things are happening in Portland, Ore. What's notable is that for the second year running our first big surprise of the year has sprung from that city. In 2008 it was slow-core dreamers A Weather , and in 2009 it is A Weather scene peers and sometime tourmates Point Juncture, WA . The five-year-old, self-described quartet (which curiously boasts five players in the splash photo at its web site) self-released its third record, Return To Elk , last fall, but Seattle-based indie label [...]

With only two days left in the year, we bring you the official results of our listener poll for the best albums of 2008. One striking difference from last year's listener top 20 (aside from being, well, 10 instead of 20) is that fully one half of the albums you picked are from Portland bands. Either this means that this was a great year for Portland music, or we've been more successful in brainwashing you. I like to think it's a little of both. 10) The Walkmen: You & [...]

For five years Point Juncture, WA has been a collaboration between four Portland, OR. songwriters, instrumentalists, recording engineers, and friends: Amanda Spring (vocals, drums) Victor Nash (keyboards, vocals) Skyler Norwood (guitar, vibraphone) and Wilson Vediner (guitar). Five years is middle age for a band but this one has aged well, having toured the country year after year and played with such like minded bands as Stereolab, Britt Daniel of Spoon, Dirty Three, Aloha, 31 Knots, Mates of State, Viva Voce... On this, their 3rd self-release they have put all their heads together, their resources [...]

Considering the number of bands that come out of Portland, it's no surprise that some great talent can be overlooked from time to time. One of my Oregon favorites, Point Juncture, WA , has passed under the radar for far too long. They've been on the road in support of their brand new release, Heart of Elk , and managed two stops in Colorado this month. Here's the Denver set, with the Colorado Springs recording to follow soon... Point Juncture, WA 9.15.2008 Hi-Dive, Denver, CO Source: Microtch Gefell M300's > Lunatec V3 [...]

1. Dead Confederate -- Get Out This song is from this much hyped group's self-titled EP . 2a. UNKLE -- Chemical [featuring Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age] 2b. UNKLE -- Kaned and Abel Both tracks are from the new End Titles...Stories For Film album. 3. Shwayze -- California A perfect combination of music & politics = Bill Clinton+ rap. 4. Titus Andronicus -- No Future [...]

"This band started as something we wanted to do at house parties, as a response to the growing underground music scene around Portland. When we were getting started we wanted to have something to flush all of our inspirations and frustrations into, not a business or something too precious to get a little rough around the edges from time to time. Something we could love but also let have a life of it's own." For five years Point Juncture has been a collaboration between four Portland, OR. songwriters, instrumentalists, recording engineers, and friends: Amanda [...]

Long-time readers of TSOI, Portland's Point Juncture, WA just e-mailed me to let me know that they have a new record coming out later this month called Heart to Elk . They were the first band to send me a promo cd when this site started, making it a "legitimate venture." The few tracks I've heard from the new record seem to expand on the boy/girl pop sound by adding some amazing production work and layers and layers of instruments. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of the physical CD in the mail because if it's [...]
