Tonight I'm taking part in a Zombie 5K called the Run of the Living Dead. I'll be going as Cillian Murphy's character from 28 Days Later. In order to pump myself up for tonight's race, I spent the morning picking out some great Halloween-ish songs that don't get a lot of play this time of [...]
Poison Control Center have been around for a while. I first saw them power-sliding around at CMJ in 2007 (a mention of which can be found in this write-up. I missed most of PCC's set). But way before I saw them, the group recorded but never released a 24-song rock opera that never saw the [...]

Poison Control Center toured for nearly 200 consecutive days and nights supporting Sad Sour Future, an album they released May 18th of 2010. In the midst of that zig-zag of the states the band wrote most of of what appears on Stranger Ballet, which was released this past June. The album opens with a bright pluckey guitar riff and 1-2 drum beat and lyric "What's the difference? you know your day is just shit and piss," something fondly reminiscent of a 19902s (the band not decade) track. Now I can't remember the last time I've committed myself to [...]

Words by Rick Moslen It turns out that Iowa has other sweet exports besides corn. In fact, lots of stellar bands hail from the Hawkeye state, including Poison Control Center . Attend one of their shows and expect gymnastic guitar solos, wild drumming, and three vocalists and dancing about the stage. They enjoy playing music at a time when looking hip on stage takes precedence to having fun for so many musicians. Listen to Poison Control Center albums, and you fall in love with songs comparable to the finest psychedelic pop [...]

When I first started listening to Poison Control Center I found myself drawn to it because it kind of made me uncomfortable but still really curious. The Iowa based rockers make really intense music that buzzes with a level of energy you can almost feel right through the speakers. I did eventually adjust to PCCs flavor of punk and with the discomfort abated the allure only grew - I should note seeing them live also served to stoke those fires. When Stranger Ballet came across the wire I was super excited to see what the fellas [...]

Our in-box is overflowing again and we don't have the capacity to do these songs proper justice. So with our apologies, here is an all-too-cursory round-up of some new tracks we're enjoying - and all well worth some investment from your ears. We have some delightfully jangly indie-pop in the classic vein from The Very Most and from Bronze Medal , some retro-inspired 'British invasion' style rock from The Young Things , and a modern indie rock means Motown style soul number from Poison Control Center. [...]
I've always felt bad about how little I cover Poison Control Center. I really like the band, they're great live and lead singer Patrick is a great guy. So consider this step one in making amends to you guys for not making sure you're aware of these guys. Poison Control Center: "Seagull" from Stranger Ballet [...]

Our list has nothing and everything to do with Earth Day, so as humans of Earth, check out what other humans have been up to. Starting with KIDCITY , the duo from outside Toronto composed their track "Blood Face" in an electronic driven dizzy that's quite catchy. They've got an EP out May 31. Next, from Bath, UK are Flags . This newly-formed group will be releasing their single "Running" on Monday, April 25. Also from England and on Monday, The Wombats have This Modern Glitch coming out. The remixed [...]
"Torpedoes on Tuesday,…" is the first single from the upcoming June 7 release from the indie rock boys in The Poison Control Center. The album, Stranger Ballet, has ten other guitar-heavy anthemic rock songs, but "Torpedoes on Tuesday,..." will definitely give you a rousing idea of what to expect. (mp3) The Poison Control Center - [...]
It sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays. Yet, The Poison Control Center’s first single from their album Stranger Ballet is titled “Torpedoes on Tuesday.” This pessimistic tale is not really one of misery, but more of the songwriter’s tits being chapped. This song might be best described as being about the guy in the back of the office who is sick and tired of his melancholy day-to-day and needs to lash out (“I’m sorry but it has to be said/the moment is dead”). [...]
