Tonight's gig was advertised as being in the basement at Rock City but the Gaslight Anthem's rapid rise to fame seems to have put paid to that. When we arrive people are queuing down the street to pay on the door. Turns out we're not in the basement at all but in the main hall and it's just about full. The Gaslight Anthem's take on Americana is eighties-ish and unashamedly Springsteen. They are perhaps what the E Street band would have sounded like had they not had a few hits and crossed over to the dark side [...]
Well, yesterday, I went to a wedding and I was too busy eating food to be writing.
I guess since I don't really know if these bands have communist beliefs that I really shouldn't go around accusing them of such, but the evidence is there. Polar Bear Club has an EP titled "Redder is Better" and the Groucho Marxists, well, you know…

Late Night Wallflower favorite Polar Bear Club have signed to Bridge 9 records. A new full length will be coming fall 2009. Plus Bridge 9 will also be doing a gatefold vinyl version of Sometimes Things Just Disappear in the spring. Get Stoked.

I managed to dredge up my memories of news, shows, and records that happened this past year. It wasn't easy. I've fried a lot of brain cells with black coffee and fumes from the subway, so remembering what I had for dinner the night before is sometimes a chore. Not to mention that a lot of albums have come across my desk, I spent a lot of time listening to music, almost to an obsessive level sometimes. So to highlight my favorite stuff of the year, never mind remembering what exactly came [...]

Everyone else is doing it so why shouldn't I? That's right, listmania 2008 is finally here and what I've got to present to you here is the first half of my favorite albums of the year. Love 'em or hate 'em, these are the albums that made the cut. I decided to stick with a list of 50 this year mainly because that's what I've done in the past and also because 2008 was a really great year for new music and narrowing down the list to fewer than this just seemed unfair. [...]

If you're in New York, or any place for that matter, on New Year's Day, don't forget about the annual Polar Bear Club swim down on Coney Island. And if you want to be smart, definitely forget about it. MP3: Phosphorescent - And The Swimming

When I saw The Gaslight Anthem were playing Shepherds Bush Empire for the NME Shockwaves tour next year, I was a bit puzzled. How could a band come under the radar and play a venue that big and expect to sell it out? I've since done a bit of research and it seems that my musical radar seems to have plain and simply missed them out, which is a hell of a shame - they're pretty darned amazing and full of energy it seems - its pop punk, but for adults. Mature, [...]

On Friday radio station RLC, better known to the world as 90.FM The Core held a show at the Cook Campus Center at Rutgers University . The show boasted a pretty awesome lineup of New Brunswick's own The Gaslight Anthem , as well as Polar Bear Club , NYC's The King Left , and another up and coming Brunswick band, Let Me Run . A last minute cancellation by Polar Bear Club (their van broke down) slimmed down the lineup for the night but didn't change much of the [...]

The Gaslight Anthem performed at Rutgers in their hometown of New Brunswick this past weekend. Let Me Run and The King Left opened. Unfortunately, Polar Bear Club 's van broke down and they canceled last minute. Gaslight's set was full of interesting tales of fortune tellers from Australia during an hour and half long set of damn good rock and roll. Check out some photos below. [...]

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM played an early set Saturday night at The Knitting Factory , celebrating the release of their new record, The '59 Sound . Polar Bear Club and We're All Broken handled the opening duties but Gaslight were the stars of the night, playing for nearly 2 hours to a (very) sold out crowd of diehard fans. Lots of friends - who playfully joked with the band over the course of the night, peaking with a few rousing Bouncing Souls chants before the encore (to honor the New Brunswick roots). [...]
It could be very easy to be disappointed with Sometimes Things Just Disappear after Polar Bear Club's awesome debut EP The Redder, The Better but just give this one a little time; it's a slow burner. On this (their debut full-length) Polar Bear Club continues to blend catchy pop-punk hooks with slower and more angular post-hardcore guitars, finding a balance between gruff vocals and melodic harmonies. It is a tried-and-true formula in today's punk landscape, but Polar Bear Club somehow manage to escape being just another sound-alike. They slow things [...]
