Last weekend saw the Camden Crawl festival land in Dublin for the first time, with two nights of music spread across the city. State was on hand to report on the event and here's our pick of the acts from home and abroad. And So I Watch You From Afar - Button Factory, Friday Few bands seem to get better and better every time you see them live, but ASIWYFA are made of special stuff. New guitarist Niall Kennedy has filled the very big shoes of Tony Wright with aplomb, splicing [...]

The cold wet streets of Camden are awash with drunken hordes tonight, but that's just a typical weekend here. Thrown into that mix is a bunch of wristband wearing music seekers who are staggering their way between the pubs, clubs and venues of north London's pleasure streets. Yes, you know it can only be the Camden Crawl . The legendary multi-venue multi-gig festival may be the oldest swinger in town these days, imitated by many others that have arguably [...]
Schaut man sich die Facebook Seite vom Highfield Festival 2012 an, sieht man überwiegend Benutzer die sich nach weiteren Bandbestätigungen sehnen. Drum freuen wir uns, über jede Band, die sich selbst bestätigt. New Wave before New Wave had really solidified. Sort of like Springsteen, but sort of not. Perhaps it's most accurately described as an offering to bridge the Billy Joel-ers and the Rundgren-ites, a union which sounds fairly unappetizing. Big noses, effeminate hair, and lots of bland pontificating in obnoxious Long Island accents. I don't much
BAAAASED... Icey den a polar bear.

Room E Got something to say in the mornings now. Room E - Polar Bear ( mp3 )

Out of the hundreds of gigs I've been to over the years I can't think of an occasion where I've given the promoter or organiser of the night much thought, beyond perhaps.. which idiot chose this support band or an exasperated, the running order says stage time 9...Its 9.20! After "organising" (in the loosest sense of the word) Oxjam Walthamstow I'll forever have a respect for the hidden promoter and their secret language of backlines, di's, breakables & get-ins. In the months between committing to put an Oxfam gig and the night itself I've gone from angst to [...]

The Rocket Fuel Podcast has released a special Fest 10 edition episode. In the podcast listeners can hear new tracks from Samiam , Nothington , Polar Bear Club and the premiere of a new track from Good Luck . The song is titled "Impossible" and comes from their upcoming record Without Hesitation . Also in the episode, Fest organizer Tony Weinbender lets it slip that the "mystery band" playing at the Double Down on Friday is not a band that has played Fest before. Listeners [...]

On Wednesday October the 19th 2011 Music Like Dirt is organising a charity concert as part of Oxfam's month long " Oxjam Festival ". All proceeds from the night will go to help Oxfam's work and some of my favourite bands and musicians have kindly agreed to play. There are styles to suit all tastes, from indie to pop, to hip-hop to electronic soul...So great music, great cause... its a win win! Ahead of his 11 night run at Camden's Roundhouse , the highly acclaimed PolarBear will be bringing his beguiling mix of spoken word [...]
As a whole, 2011 has been a superb year for pop-punk of all shades. The Wonder Years and Fireworks have led the charge with their most recent albums, and some of the harder-edged groups have put out excellent records as well: Heeartsounds' Drifter is a particular standout from this year. The genre's standards have been raised and met repeatedly over the last few years, and Polar Bear Club find themselves returning to a changed landscape. However, the band are well known for evolving their sound to fit with changing times, so as a follow-up to 20092s [...]
![[Hypeworthy] Giraffage: “Moments” ; + “Polar Bear”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3736131_lg.jpg)
One of my new favorite blogs is Turntable Kitchen , a uniquely merged site for foodies and music fanatics. Their September Mix is particularly spectacular and introduced me to the wonderfully futuristic schizophrenic electro-pop of San Francisco's Charlie Yin a.k.a. Giraffage . Giraffage - Moments Giraffage - Polar Bear Giraffage is the latest entry into the increasingly crowded post-chillwave electro-pop scene, but luckily for everyone the field is wide [...]
Giraffage (aka San Fransisco's Charlie Yin) excels in the dreampop category with this banger from his upcoming LP, Comfort (due this fall). I gotta say, I think that all of the indie-animal-based-names making the rounds are starting to wear pretty thin, but we'll see if the trend changes soon. Check out the bandcamp page for some name-your-price tunes.

I've said it before but it bears repeating, Charlie Yin the man behind Giraff(age) 's music somehow, through an esoteric assortment of samples and, his words not mine, "audio fuckery," manages to verge on the aural equivalent of happiness. His body of work conveys a sense of hope and optimism which, on this track, he has confirmed, was a conscious effort. "Moments" is not only fun but it's intriguing, to the point that I'm tempted to undertake, the most likely impossible task, of picking out each sample he used (is that Pon De Floor I hear?), [...]

San Francisco's Giraffage is back with a track from his upcoming debut LP, Comfort , which is scheduled for a release date this fall. The new track, "Polar Bear," is a smooth, glassy electronic jam that is as refreshing as a stream of cool air on a warm day. Or maybe like a swim through a bright and bubbly 16-bit body of water. Give it a listen and see for yourself. Giraffage - Polar Bear If you haven't already check out his Pretty Things EP .
