New Pornographers' A.C. Newman performs at Crocodile on Friday photo by Jeremy Farmer With November gently rolling in there's no excuse not to go out and see some live music in Seattle. The week starts slowly with a couple local shows and just builds from there. Tilly and the Wall are at Neumos on Monday night, and Those Darlins', Heavy Cream, and The Mad Caps are at Sunset Tavern on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night there's a few interesting choices including Grand Hallway, Alice in the River, and Owl Pussycat at the Triple Door, Zammuto at Barboza, [...]
We're playing catch up with last week's new releases. This, therefore, is effectively Vol. II of the Best New Music Releases for the week of Oct. 16th, with new singles from Earlimart, Young Dreams, Shiny Toy Guns, Peace, Matmos, Rosie Flores, Blackbird Blackbird, The Lytics, Harlan, and a number of DIY releases that from everything [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Seattle's own The Maldives lead this week's list of new releases. Led by songwriter Jason Dodson, the band has previously performed with nine or more members, is now a lean six-piece with a grittier sound. Our Music Director, Don yates, calls their third album "their sharpest batch to date, ranging from Thin Lizzy-influenced rockers to desolate, country-steeped ballads." The Maldives - Blood on the Highway ( MP3 ) from Muscle for the Wing on Spark and Shine Another local songwriter tops our [...]
Considering today's socio-political environment, the unadulterated angst of Seattle's Police Teeth is absolutely unsurprising.Their new self-titled disc scowls and sneers like an eternally cynical (yet equally rambunctious) take on pop punk, or perhaps a less biting version of At The Drive In (particularly in the back and forth shouted vocals of "My V-4 Weighs a Ton"). In the end, though, it's hard to tell if the bass-heavy belly-aching on "Chicago One Point Five" (a list of bad boy tropes followed by "damn everything holding us back") is sincere, an arch smirk overpowering all else. When they're [...]
Police Teeth Appearing at Replay Lounge (Lawrence, KS) on Sunday, October 21, 2012

Photo Source: Police Teeth Police Teeth are at the top of the bill for a show at The Black Lodge on Saturday, September 22nd. Special Explosion and Animal Lover are set to play too. Their forthcoming full-length is due out next month on Latest Flame Records. The eponymously titled Police Teeth has one song up on their bandcamp; it is an indication of the grit and grime to come. "Bellingham Media Blackout" churns with one [...]
When asked to describe their live show, Seattle's Police Teeth said, simply, "Loud, ragged, sweaty, hair, flying debris, mustache." When asked to describe their previous record, 2011's Awesomer Than The Devil, the East Bay Express said, simply, "To the initiated, the catchy, working-class rock of Police Teeth demands comparisons to Les Savy Fav at the top of its game, or The Thermals when they truly lock it in, or Archers of Loaf...the album is not only worth a blind buy, it's a necessity." The band's newest self-titled full-length is a powerhouse of a record that showcases the trio's [...]

I can't help but be reminded of Seattle band Unnatural Helpers when listening to the new Police Teeth track "Bellingham Media Blackout". It has a comparative blend of punk and heavy power pop, filled with rough rock guitars and pop-punk vocals. The band has come a long way from Real Size Monster Series (2009), which saw co-vocalist/bassist Chris Rasmussen in his first new post-Racetrack band. "Bellingham Media Blackout" is the title track of the band's new LP, slated for a mid October release on Latest Flame [...]

I had Friday off and ended up spending most of the day sanding down cabinets. They came out looking great; a natural light pine distressed with a hint of dark stain peeping through. Ultimately they will get two light coats of matte brown followed by white paint and distressed lightly. Yes. We are re-doing the kitchen. And I still had time to take a nice 25 mile bike ride through the countryside (hence this post's photo, taken just outside Rexville, WA). After the cabinet distressing will [...]

Remember when we said we’d share our list of 25 other unmissable records the first week of January? Whoops. Thing is, the first month of this new year, we were still listening to and falling in (and out) of love with records from 2011. Discovering albums we should’ve shared months ago and finding out what [...]
The Devil. In the history of music (especially rock and roll) there are fewer inspirational figures. The list is as follows: 1) A Woman (Women - plural) 2a) God (or "Gods" if you're nasty) 2b) The Devil (will help you sell records) 3) The Government (or another shadowy empire) 2,291,191,910,918,181,192) That "brand new" sensation you get after brushing taking a [...]
Police Teeth? Ugh. Good grief. This song is from their upcoming album Awesomer Than The Devil which will be available to all earthlings on April 26th, courtesy of Latest Flame Records. Between this album and BOAT's Dress Like Your Idols, I've been enjoying some of the Pacific Northwest's catchiest tunes as of late. Listen to [...]
If Godzilla is on your show poster, I will talk about you. Didn't I see you at Weedeater on Monday night? Oh, I didn't? That's because I was played hooky and wasn't there. Where I was happens to be none of your business (read: sitting on my bed, fatigued and shoegazing). The underlining point is that [...]
Confession: We know and love Matt Brown in real life. He's a permanent fixture in the front row of our favorite Seattle shows and has been since we started Sound on the Sound in 2006. He is our very favorite local music fan, because that's all he is. Matt Brown has no blog or burgeoning [...]
