Tweet I have my smug face on. A month ago I wrote up a piece on Nedry , prophesying that their upcoming material might be quite good. And I was right. I'm slightly less smug about that the fact that I warned everyone to keep their eyes peeled - and the very next day their new single, "Violaceae" , started previewing online, and I didn't notice for a month. As I say, people, not as I do. [...]

Music videos accomplish what has never been done before in the history of media: They make experimentation a commercial enterprise. They afford musicians, filmmakers, and multimedia artists the chance to have their craziest ideas not only produced, but shown to a large audience. What's more, in the age of Internet video, indie productions are now on equal footing with million-dollar productions. There's no visual medium more diverse or creative than music videos. Thirty years after the launch of MTV, the format is not only alive and well, but it's matured, expanded, and become a part of our global culture. When [...]
65daysofstatic multi-instrumentalist Paul Wolinski's first album as solo act Polinski is Labyrinth (Monotreme), an LP inspired by his appreciation for '70s and '80s sci-fi movies. "Tangents" is an epic trance concoction, something that would feel at home in a European dance club or a Star Trek reboot. With a sound reminiscent of Daft Punk's album for the [...]
Deerhunter's prolific musical genius, Bradford Cox, has been one of our favorite 'indie' musicians for years. In addition to his work on his mothership, that is Deerhunter, Cox has lots of other music projects and collaborations, including the most popular of them all - his solo work under the moniker Atlas Sound, a project that [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Polinski - Labyrinths By Ben Dufton Polinski is Paul Wolinski of 65daysofstatic fame's solo project and Labyrinths is his debut album. Wow. That was my first impression - the sentiment that passed through my head at various points throughout my first listen. When it finished, I simply pressed play again. And again. '1985-quest' rather neatly sets the scene, with its classic synthesiser sounds bringing to mind film scores from those early years. If it were not for [...]

Guitar rockers making mind-bending electro — "Stitches," the first single from the Polinski album "Labyrinths," features two of them. Polinski is the nom de tune of Paul Wolinski of U.K. math-rockers 65daysofstatic , and the phased vocals on the track belong to Jonathan Bates, the Mellowdrone main man whose own foray into electro, as Big Black Delta , has yielded big, beautiful noise. The video, made by brothers Caspar and Josiah Newbolt with art by John De Lucca, plays out as a cool text-based game. The album will be out on Monotreme Records . [...]

Can you folks believe that October is almost over already? Halloween is right around the corner, which means AMC is playing all your old favorite horror movies, and Hocus Pocus is in constant rotation on the Disney Channel. And hey, if you're hungry, CANDY'S ON SALE! It's a great time to be prepping for the cold, and enjoying what little sunshine is left before the big snow hits. And now that you're migrating indoors more often, there's no reason why you shouldn't be catching up on the best videos the web has to offer. With M83 pushing their [...]

It's going to be an exciting few weeks for 65daysofstatic ( facebook / twitter ) fans, that's for sure. There is a new song available for free download (below); 'Burial Scene' is piano-driven and breathtakingly beautiful, sounding a bit like a lost song from the sessions for 'The Destruction of Small Ideas'. It's suitably cinematic, and indeed, it's taken from their film score for 'Silent Running', which arrives on November 14th. Burial Scene by 65daysofstatic Before that, though Paul Wolinski is unleashing his debut solo album under [...]

Recent crime-solving video games like L.A. Noire have seen grand success with their intricate story-lines and highly detailed, modern graphics. Electro rocker Polinski , aka the side-project of 65daysofstatic frontman Paul Wolinski, hasn't forgotten the granddaddies of games like that, though, and with his new video for "Stitches" (featuring Big Black Delta), he's crafted them one incredible homage. Forgoing all the bells and whistles of current technology, Polinski, along with director/writer Caspar Newbolt and director/animator Josiah Newbolt (some relation), gives us an old-school text adventure detective story. Murdered dames, [...]

Here we are, concluding yet another long week in the chapter of each of our lives. It's been tough. We lost Steve Jobs, the Yankees choked [ ed. not everyone views this as "tough"], and Ashton and Demi are getting divorced. One might want to see what the bottom of a bottle of Jack looks like after a week like this, but I urge you not to do that. Take a little nip if you must, but let our mp3s this week be a helping hand out of the maudlin haze and back up into the saddle, so you'll [...]

Ah, the solo project - you could say it's like moving out of your family home for the first time. Or if you're Paul Wolinski of British electronic post-rock band 65daysofstatic , you might say it's more like exploring unknown reaches of the galaxy on the U.S.S. Enterprise. That's the sort of direction he takes it with his new solo endeavor Polinski (see what he did there?). We've got a taste of that space exploration with the premiere of a cut from his upcoming debut, Labyrinths . On "Tangents", you'll hear what it's like [...]

First, math rockers 65daysofstatic did a song featuring Robert Smith of The Cure. Paul Wolinski's solo project, the spectacularly titled Polinski , has long been in gestation - sidelined, presumably, by 65daysofstatic's apparently endless tour-record-tour cycle. His debut LP is out next month, but in the meantime here's a lovely remix of Ghosting Season 's 'Far End Of The Graveyard' - with added time signature change and Com Truise-esque synth melodies. MAGNET fave 65Daysofstatic returns October 25 with We Were Exploding Anyway, which features the Cure's Robert Smith on vocals. Two weeks later, the band's Paul Wolinski makes his solo debut as Polinski. Labyrinths (Monotreme) was written over the past year while Wolinski was both on and off of tour with 65Daysofstatic. While his day job get busy with their 'Silent Running' project - which is due out in October apparently - 65daysofstatic man Paul Wolinski, hereafter referred to as Polinski (see what he did there?), is gearing up to release his debut solo album, also due out in October. A great month for fans of 65, then. Those of you who loved their most recent album, 'We Were Exploding Anyway', will find much to like about Polinski's solo record, if the recently-released teaser, available as a free download below, is anything to go by.
