Wilco - " Wilco (the Song) " I find it hard to believe but for my end of the year post I will make mention of the new Wilco album for the first time on Tuneage. It seems that not posting favorites has become the new Tuneage trend of 2009, but we're making up for it. I guess Wilco is a tough sell for me. I love almost everything they've done but it takes me awhile to realize it. I can't tell you how many times I had to listen to [...]

Tuesday, December 2, 2009 Below you'll find the third part of my Top 50 Songs Of 2009! Enjoy. Couple of things ... My only criteria for the list was that the tracks had to be from the pool of over 600 that made an appearance here at Side One: Track One over the course of the last 11 months. This list is not a good representation of my Top 25 Albums Of 2009 (they will [...]
There are some songs that you can't help but listen to five, ten or even twenty times in a row. 'Everybody, Come Outside!' by Pomegranates is one of those songs. And I'm not even talking about the really annoying, instantaneously catchy ones. This is just a beautifully crafted pop song with layers that deserve to be dissected by repeated listens. Playful vocals are enveloped in an irresistable warm fuzz and moments of quiet intensity, recalling the likes of Radiohead and Arcade Fire, intersperse an overwhelming sense of hypnotic [...]
Pomegranates - " Everybody, Come Outside! " This dancey little number comes from a group of guys out of Cincinnati, Ohio… not really a hotbed of musical activity but when a sweet band comes out of my home state I feel obligated to tell the world about them. They have recently finished up a tour in support of their new album (by the same name as this song) Everybody, Come Outside! . Don't be fooled by their poppy nature. This is actually a concept album which tells the [...]

Slowly climbing the US indie scene, Pomegranates have just been signed to the rather good Heist Or Hit Records here in the UK, home to TGTF favourites The Answering Machine ( coverage )and LoveLikeFire ( coverage ). They say: Shimmering self-professed "art-pop"...A youthful, open-eared quartet enlivened with a kick-ass record collection, ceiling-less imagination, ragged guitars, and songwriting chops for days. - Spin We say: [...]

Last year, the Chicago based music venue as Schubas brought the likes of Cursive, Department of Eagles, Bishop Allen, and Bear Hands for its annual five-day winter celebration/music festival, Tomorrow Never Knows . We were there and wrote a lot about it . Anyhow, for its 2010 edition, Schubas, now with their new venue, Lincoln Hall, available to provide some extra space, has taken TNK up a notch. After all, include to take part in this year's festivities, which takes place from January 13-17 at both Schubas and Lincoln Hall, are The Cribs, Voxtrot, Final Fantasy, [...]

I had just become a fan of Pomegranates , psych-pop band from Cincinnati, before seeing their Friday show at Pygmalion Festival , so I was anxious to see what they had to offer. I was able to catch two songs I recognized, the summery "Everybody, Come Outside!" (complete with a megaphone for the chorus) and the dreamy, reverb-drenched "Beachcomber". Their bouncy indie pop charmed the crowd, offering a lighthearted breather from some of the more contemplative, intense bands (Low, The Antlers) that had filled up much of that evening. David Bowie released the breakthrough single "Space Oddity" in 1969, meaning that it's been 40 years since Major Tom lost contact with Ground Control and was stranded in space. In 1980, Bowie revisited the character on "Ashes to Ashes," but only as a metaphor for drug use (in which astronaut = junkie). Firs is a synth pop duo from Cincinnati, made up of Pomegranates frontman Joey Cook and vocalist Sophia Cunningham. Man in Space , the pair's debut album, is loosely based around a lost astronaut's miraculous return to earth after [...]
Since when did tonight become the night that everything happens? There is so much going on in Brick City tonight and through the weekend, it's almost enough to make up for the complete dearth of quality entertainment we've had since Sonic Youth experimentally jet set and trashed the riverfront back in July. So let's dispense [...]
