Foxtails Brigade have released a new video shot by Jack Conte of YouTube darlings Pomplamoose . It's apparently the first of four videos that they plan to do together. The other three will be released on Foxtails Brigades' YouTube channel . The video is shot very much in the Pomplamoose style, where what you hear is what you see — the person and instrument making every single sound at some point makes a cameo in the video. In other words, they're keepin it real, and they can prove it. Conte explained the [...]
Pomplamoose are navigating the treacherous waters of YouTube cover song stardom when one has dreams of being more than a cover band. Part of their approach is to record their original work as solo artists Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte separately from Pomplamoose. While that may sound a bit complicated, the approach is keeping their musical identities clear while building a brand that supports their long term career-building activities. TechCrunch's Andrew Keen interviewed Pomplamoose during the recent SF MusicTech Summit. Keen's gee whiz lack of knowledge of the [...]

►Best Bang For Your Buck Award goes to: Taylor Locke & the Roughs along with Sabrosa Purr and Miracle Parade at Bootleg Bar. It also gets my vote for the sexiest rock show of the night and, yes, I'm talking about the music and the musicians. ►Aussie-to-L.A. seems to be a running theme this week. Oh look, it's Aussies-to L.A. Neon Hymns continuing their Friday night residency at Hotel Café. Theirs is a familiar sound (listen to the track "Whatever Happened" ) , but the passion and heart behind it (as well as [...]

Su questo blog non ci siamo praticamente mai occupati di Lady Gaga e direi che si può anche andare avanti così. Questa però è molto carina, anzi, quasi "Di Prestigio", e merita una segnalazione: " Andrew Kolb turned the Lady Gaga song Telephone into a vintage children's book ". (via Tweexcore ). (mp3): Pomplamoose - Telephone (Lady Gaga Cover)

Five years ago I moved out of the San Francisco Bay Area for the snowy, crisp mountains of Colorado. I absolutely love my adopted home, our vibrant music scene, and the fresh air here, but no foolin' I do often long for my hometown hills. Over the holidays I went to San Francisco for a week to stay at the Noe Valley apartment of friends who were out of town and graciously let me "housesit." It was a part of town I had never stayed in before. When I first let myself into their empty place on [...]
Billboard enters the present music landscape in pretty darn cool fashion.
J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief for eMusic, told WNYC: "In 2011, expect the line between independent music and big-name, arena-filling acts to become increasingly blurred." That sounds about right. (Top Three Places We Saw Phoenix With Like 100,000 Other People) But the mainstream-ization of indie rock has played out since before Zoo Kid was born: "Alternative [...]
So smitten by these bands were we in 2010 that we glorify them with the deepest of poetry. Grab a tissue or a rose and find a loved one, these are worth repeating. Ecco, oggi [...]
Michael Jackson's hit "Beat it" has been covered quite successfully by Pomplamoose, Inactive Messiah, Igor Presnyakov, Bruno Mars, and YouTube's coconuttoes.

In case you missed it, which I almost did - everybody's favorite piano-pop musician Ben Folds has released an album in collaboration with my personal favorite music-loving author, Nick Hornby. If that name sounds familiar, he's the guy that wrote the book High Fidelity - which was also made into a movie with John Cusack (a movie that's also notable as the book to film translation that gave birth to Sonic Death Monkey ). If that news hasn't made you giddy with excitement, to promote the album, called Lonely Avenue , Ben Folds partnered [...]
