sunny Brighton review and photos by DJ Shannon My latest musical adventure took me to England. It had been a few years since I was there, so I had a lot to catch up on. New buildings for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Friends. The theatre. Museum exhibits. I spent a Sunday attending Camden Crawl, a 3-day music festival. I finally checked out Dutch Uncles who played at St. Michael's Church. I also saw some faves I've been playing on my Thursday night radio show: Kid Canaveral, Lucy [...]

Celebrities are used to having things like sandwiches, streets or drinking games named in their honor, but there have only been a chosen few that have had a spider named for them. Today news surfaced that a new genus of the velvet spider has recently been named Loureedia, "in recognition of the fact that this velvet spider lives underground," in honor of the Velvet Underground front man Lou Reed. The spider, which is described as having a "dark and shiny" appearance and is known to live in Africa, Asia, Europe and Brazil. Reed joins both Frank Zappa and [...]
![[News] Dot to Dot Festival Preview](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4283937_lg.jpg)
Summer is creeping in and with that you'll of noticed a host of Festivals taking place in just about every corner of the globe. Dot to Dot Festival started back in 2005 in Nottingham bringing together some top music acts across a number of venues. Fast forward to 2012 and the event has grown to three cities, all playing host to the chosen bands over a weekend. This years event will take place over the weekend of June 2nd to 4th in Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester. It's sure to be a great way to spend the bank holiday [...]

And so concludes The Great Escape Festival , which always turns into the biggest weekend of our calendar year. It's been four days since the event finished, yet our hangovers have barely receded. On one of the nights we finally reached our bed at 8am! A marathon indeed. Below is our review of a handful of experiences and exploits, but in truth it's pretty impossible to extol the real experience in words. Sure we had an amazing time, with lots of live music and venue hopping, but as a Brighton resident every other week of the year, we noticed [...]
More often than not, most side-projects and spin-off bands don't spin very far from their respective musical mothership. Take the charmingly shambling Pond, a psych-rocking Australian three-piece that shares two members with Tame Impala, the psych-rocking Australian four-piece responsible for 2010's terrific Innerspeaker. That debut put a revisionist spin on guitar-driven psychedelia so much so

Antes de embarcarse en su gira europea para presentar el álbum Beard, Wives, Denim , los australianos Pond se divierten haciendo esta versión del clásico de Smokey Robinson Tears Of A Clown . Mp3: Pond. Tears Of A Clown

Pond , comprised of members of Tame Impala, have been filling my headphones with their new release, Beards, Wives, Denim . Their funky pyschedelic sounds are a refreshing change of pace in the modern indie landscape. The band is currently on tour in Europe, but that didn't stop them from covering one of my all-time favorite tracks, Smokey Robinson's Tears of a Clown . Their version is very true to the original with them recreating the circus like hook on guitar. Grab the track below. [...]

Aussie psych dudes, Pond, have rolled up...err...out a rendition of the Motown classic, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' Tears Of A Clown. Listen, download, do whatcha do. Pond; Tears Of A Clown (Smokey Robinson And The Miracles Cover)
Aussie rockers Pond take on Smokey Robinson's " Tears Of A Clown ," crafting it into the reverb-heavy ripper to which they're accustomed. I have low expectations, in general, for rock bands covering Motown staples - don't hold it against me, Pond! - but this is totally viable. Download below. Read More...

True fans of music spend countless hours searching for that next great song, album or artist, whether it be online or in a local record shop. The beautiful thing about music in today's age is that technology has created an infinite supply of great music that is available to us at the click of a mouse. How perfect is that? We can discover a brand new artist on the opposite side of the globe in seconds without a radio or a music television channel. It only makes sense that a website so dedicated to this gorgeous universe of music would [...]

If ever there was a music festival designed for a music blog like ours it would be this one...OK, so perhaps SXSW too, but this one is literally outside our house. Absolutely zero connecting flights to Austin required then, as we only need to step outside of our door and we're surrounded by 300 artists and what seems like the entire British music industry, as we all set out to enjoy the annual Great Escape Festival . As you would expect, this means we are going to be very busy little bloggers over the weekend of the [...]

Been a while since we posted up anything from a new 'guitar' band, so it's nice to feature Australian group Pond . They come from Perth and share members with Tame Impala ; their new release is called 'Beard, Wives, Denim' and they share a similar aesthetic to the aforementioned Impala's, be prepared for waves of psychedelic bluster. The record is out now on Modular . Pond- Moth Wings (Download)

Yet another late review by me, unfortunately hindered this time by a pesky essay on the European Union... not something I want to discuss, ever again. POND at Northcote Social Club however is definitely something worth writing about. After enjoying a delicious parma we rolled around to the super crowded band room that was buzzing with excitement for the Perth boys - I'm pretty sure everyone was there just a little bit early to reserve a space in the cosy bandroom at NSC. Scoring a relatively mosh-free area at the back, what [...]

It's nice when one great band leads you to another. The internet makes finding good bands both so easy and incredibly difficult, because there's tons of stuff widely available now, but there's also TONS of STUFF widely available now. Finding Pond was pretty easy for me, though. I absolutely loved Tame Impala 's 2010 release, Innerspeaker (my far-and-away fave of that year), and earlier this year noticed some Facebook posts or something like that about another band named Pond . The bands share three members and have a similar psychedelic rock vibe, and I [...]

Think TV On The Radio meets Tame Impala. Australia's Pond is a musical collective featuring an ever-changing line-up actually including three members of said Tame. Last month they delivered a brand new album entitled Beard, Wives, Denim. It's "an audio diary of ten friends' strange, terrible and blissful time in the country trying in vain to be a wholesome family band. It sounds just like it, distorted and woozy and fractured and ultimately nostalgic and loving." Pond - "Moth Wings" In 2010, [...]

POND have a new video for their staunch track, "You Broke My Cool" from the March released, Beard, Wives, Denim. continue reading >>

photo by Jim Bennett Australian psych-rock band Pond stopped in earlier this month to play a set before their Sunset show the same night. Their performance at SXSW only a week or two before was hailed as one of the best of the bunch, and it's plain to see here how inviting Pond's live setup is. Pond's sound is cleaner and crisper live, and it's easier to hear all of the integration between guitar and keyboard and otherwise. In short, their brief set at KEXP is a great testament to Pond's live show, and [...]

Australian psychedelic minstrels, Pond, dropped into the KEXP studios and the Cheryl Waters Show on their trip through the Northwest earlier this month. The boys kicked out a live set, which included one of our favorite tracks, Pond In A Park. Check it out.
