http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =AX2wk9MKiF8 The good folk at Production Simple have hooked us up with TWO PAIRS of tickets for the Ponderosa, Houndmouth and Jubalson show on Saturday night at Headliners. Ponderosa out of Atlanta has that cool country vibe that Louisville eats up and Houndmouth may be the hottest act playing in town right now. Plus, it was just announced that they will be part of the Forecastle X line-up. Needless to say, get out and see them. With free tix, you will have no excuse. Real simple. I would like to think I do a pretty good job of covering as much music as possible, and given the chance to digest a ton of music its obvious that I'll miss some of the fantastic releases that a year has. These are some of them that are sticking out to me, ones that I've only recently gone back and listened to and realized what a god awful fool I was for not mentioning them more. Black Joe Lewis - Scandalous Black Joe Lewis - She's So Scandalous [...]

by Jacob Blickenstaff On Saturday (7/30), Lincoln Center Out of Doors in partnership with the Ponderosa Stomp , put on a remarkable day of music and music history under the name of "She's Got The Power, a Girl Group Extravaganza." Within its 10 (free) hours, the event included a 3-part, 4-hour panel of "Girl Talk" that presented Lesley Gore , members of the Angels and the Exciters , Seymour Stein [...]

One of my must-see bands at SxSW was J. Roddy Walston & The Business. And being the meticulous planner that I am, I figured seeing them at 1AM after 12 hours of killing Lone Star tallboys would be a good idea. We arrived at the No Depression showcase early to down few more in preparation for J. Roddy. Intoxication is a prerequisite for their set. Finally my penchant for overindulgence in Austin paid off. Thee band at midnight was Ponderosa and it took one song for me to fall in serious like with them. Led by Kalen Bush's [...]
PONDEROSA AND BLACK APPLES ON WEDNESDAY MAR. 23RD AT THE BOOTLEG THEATER, 2220 BEVERLY BOULEVARD, LOS ANGELES. 9:30PM/ $8/ 21+

Brookly based duo, Warm Ghost , has been blowing up the interwebs for the last 24 hours with the release of the "Open the Wormhole in your Heart" MP3 and corresponding video yesterday. Paul Duncan and Oliver Chapoy have worked with a few of our favorite musicians, including Joe Stickney of Bear in Heaven, among others. This track essentially blends the popular modes of 80's inspired electronic haze and vocal delivery. It's hard to argue how catchy and ambient this track is, and the positive bonus is that it remains accessible and [...]

Truth be told, within seconds of dropping the virtual needle on Ponderosa's Moonlight Revival , I was sold. What can I say? I'm a sucker big guitar licks and greasy-assed southern-friend boogie. Can't help myself. Don't wanna help myself, 'cept for maybe to another cold one. Ponderosa isn't doing anything earth-shattering here; even a blind man could connect the dots from Creedence to Skynyrd to the Crowes to these hombres . Not exactly rocket science, but not unlike rocket science, it's all in the execution. Don't want to [...]
Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin's suggested new releases for this week. Beep – City of the Future. Download "Wolf Pantalones" (mp3). This trio consists of musicians who have played in indie rock, free jazz, and avant-garde bands. In Beep, pianist/keyboardist Michael Coleman, bassist Nate Brenner, and drummer Sam Ospovat combine to create an eclectic modern jazz fusion. The songs are accessible, diverse, and flow with a distinct groove. The Decemberists – The King is Dead. Download "Down by the Water" (mp3). The King is Dead is the most straightforward album [...]

SXSW Wrapup: 1. Cold. Yes, Texas was frigid the last couple of days. 2. Good food. Pizza, migas (for breakfast from Gueros) and cupcakes from that trailer on Congress. 3. Music (Carolina Chocolate Drops, Whitey Morgan and the 78's, Skybox, Ha Ha Tonka, Waco Brothers, and all my favorite singer/songwriters (Danny Schmidt, Matt The Electrician, Adam Carroll, Lee Barber etc etc etc) One of the unexpected highlights of SXSW for me was band opening up for John Hiatt at the New West party. Ponderosa [...]

for the past two or three weeks, I've received lots and lots of music, all send to me by some bands or DJs, and I'm really, really sorry that I couldn't get earlier to it. I can't discuss all the bands today, so I'll do a part 2 in the next couple of days. Let's start with the Buffet Libre DJs, who send me their own set called Verbena Selected, which was not only put together by them, but also
