Crossing The Fields Imbuing a ramshackle country quality to their magical, jangly folk pop, brother-sister duo Camille and Alexander McGregor have been making music under the heart-explodingly cute moniker Ponies In The Surf for five years. Their crafty tales are executed with swooning, sighing play off voices and gentle acoustic guitar on 'Ventricle', elsewhere lather on a foamy, energetic pace in the rockier 'Holes In The Walls'. The brilliance of PITS is that they aren't painfully cutesy or sickeningly sweet. Their songs are clever and a little bit fruity in [...]

Achei que seria legal compartilhar aqui via Mixtape, então que seja: Ponies in The Surf - Holes in the walls [...]

In Latin, they used to say, De gustibus non est disputandum . Roughly translated it means, I'm right and you're wrong. No really, it translates to There's no accounting for taste . Since this blog is a one person show, this list was created in a vacuum. The only debates that happened putting this list together went on inside my head, and since my tastes lean toward pop, this list reflects just that. As far as how this year compares with previous years, there wasn't one record that jumped out at me a screamed best record of the [...]

Finding a band that is similar to Suddenly Tammy! is next to impossible mainly because there are very few bands where the piano is the primary instrument. Such was the case with this Lancaster, Pennsylvania brother-sister fronted band. Beth Sorrentino was the singer and piano player, while her brother Jay was the drummer. Rounding out the trio was bassist Ken Heitmuller. So yeah, there was no guitar!?. Even without a guitar they kind of reminded me of the Throwing Muses . Their song Lamp was the number two [...]

It isn't often that I instantly hear a song and completely latch onto it. Where I feel this overwhelming need to find out whatever information I can get my hands on. That was the case when I first heard a track off the recently released album from Ponies in the Surf , the sibling duo of Camille and Alexander McGregor. Currently out of Cambridge, MA - though originally they're from Bogota, Colombia; which according to Camille, "defined us the most...not really living where we should have can be a defining trait, you [...]

Anathallo is an indie band from Chicago. They have unique experimental folk style which really makes their music their own. The sounds they play with come from a diverse arsenal of instruments such as bells, trumpets, the flugelhorn, trombones, the piano. They also use unconventional instruments like the sound of velcro or even pipes. To accomplish this is no easy task, but anathallo does it quite gracefully. Do your ears a favor and listen to anathallo now! Hanasakajijii (four: a great wind, more ash) Don't Kid Yourself, You Need a Physician [...]

ponies in the surf ventricle 2004 (française version) Il s'est assis.

Ponies in the Surf "Slow Down Sugar" - "Slow Down Sugar" is a wonderfully appropriate name for this song, but an even more accurate title would have been "Slowed Down, Sugared." Camille McGregor's voice is almost cartoonishly sweet and angelic, but it's never so gorgeous as when it's extended into an ethereal drone that merges with a lightly humming organ. Following a brief, gently clanging middle

Ponies in the Surf say on their web page: We think music is the most beautiful and profound thing possible in this world, and we try our best not to commit too many crimes against it. And indeed siblings Camille and Alexander McGregor won't be arrested in the near future for crimes against music. Described as "acoustic psych-folk duo from Boston" they melodies are gentle and even sleep inducing in a good sense. They are labelmates with the excellent Pants Yell! on Asaurus Records , where they've released [...]
