Part two of my 'Top 10 Christmas Lists' sees me focusing on the Christmas covers by Irish bands! There must be hundreds of Christmas tunes out there covered by Irish artists and I've chosen the best 10 for this list! Have a listen and put some love into your heart! 10. SJ McArdle - Stop The Cavalry This song is perfect for SJ's deep deep voice! Stop [...]
Toronto - London electro pop act New Young Pony Club came out with their sophomore album last year. It was called The Optimist and came on the heels of the mega popular debut record Fantastic Playroom , an album that featured two of the better songs of 2007 - Ice Cream Shop and The Bomb . The album didn't do as well as expected, but the band did have a few good tracks off that record, including this romper called We Want to . A dance track with an easy to [...]

Aside from what they describe as the curse of coming to the fore as one of the progenitors of the controversially neon nu-rave craze that swept the world around five years ago, New Young Pony Club haven't had the easiest road. Whichever way you'd call it, NYPC's own brand of dance-punk happened to rise during a time when dayglo was enjoying a renaissance; and happily, they are also one of those few bands that have managed to maintain a devoted following after the lights came up and everyone realised they had [...]

What Am I Angry For? This for a start: ...................... I'm angry because of this: "... our National Debt is in fact more realistically 185,000,000,000, this is then divided by our population of 4,000000, the result is now 185 billion divided by 4 million = forty-six thousand two hundred fifty or 46,250 Euros. This is per each citizen in Ireland .i.e. man, women and child." ... taken from here: http://www.facebook.com/note.p hp?note_id=14863964852865 [...]

This feature brings together four great Irish tracks associated with a central theme. Here I write an open letter to the Leading Politician of Ireland asking him to resign. Open Letter to Brian Cowen, Dear Mr. Cowen, I am writing this to ask you to resign from the post of Taoiseach of Ireland. I have three reasons for you to consider this: [...]

![Top 50 Irish Acts - Part 2 [31 - 40]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2439423_lg.jpg)
This week [Monday - Friday] I'm counting down my Top 50 artists in my humble opinion at this moment in time. The artists are to have released an album/ep or played a gig since Jan 2009 in order to qualify for the list. 31. Junah Junah are another act in my top 50 who are preparing the release of their debut album after many years perfecting their sound. Their folk rock music full of big sound is elevated by the great vocal harmonies in their songs. [...]

Reader's Wives are:
Niall James Holohan on guitars, vocals, Chris Morrin [aka Robotnik] on guitars, keyboards, vocals, Disko on bass and Doug Farrell on drums. I've known about Reader's Wives for a long time but I admit I dismissed their sound very quickly. I was totally wrong to do this. Reader's Wives are releasing a five track EP on March 15th which for me is the best music produced in Ireland so far this year. Niall is a superb songwriter. The lyrics are rich in texture in the same style as [...]
One of the best things about Twitter is the potential for a good old public slanging match and for showboating. Last Thursday The Late Late Show were outed on Twitter by http://twitter.com/SeanMoncrie ff displaying their media prowess by preventing 'Crystal Swing; appearing on Newstalk! RTE want the scoop for themselves and be the first nationwide media outlet to have 'Crystal Swing' on their show. So what's the deal with this Crystal Swing? Funny when I read the name and seen those people tweeting about this sensation I assumed it was some MGMT/Strokes rip-off with [...]

It does only seem like last year when there was a debate in the media about what to call this decade. I've really enjoyed reading the various 'best of ...' lists in the media and on the blogsphere. This post aims to outline my perspective on the Irish Music Scene over the last decade! By the year 2000, we had accumulated a wealth of disposable income which in the main resulted in more of us attending gigs, more of us learning to play instruments and more [...]

Don't let the picture put you off .... Bawl made some of the best music on offer in 1996. Mark Cullen was the chief songwriter of Bawl and then again with the band Fixed Stars before settling on the name 'Pony Club' This time last year Mark released 'Post Romantic' and for me it was my album of 2008. It was an album I felt was written just for me in my present life situation. When you find an album like that it's very special indeed. Bawl was where Mark's musical [...]
