Pony Up hails from Montreal, but thanks to vocalists Sarah Moundroukas and Sarah Wills, the four-piece has more in common with Glaswegian twee pop than the windswept theatrics its city is usually known for. Moundroukas and Wills are not born singers, but their thin, occasionally strained voices are a large part of what makes the band so charming. Pony Up is an indie pop band from Montreal, Canada. They formed on New Year's Eve 2002 and, upon developing a relationship with singer Ben Lee, released their debut, self-titled EP in 2005 on his Ten Fingers label. Remember how we reported on Pony Up's Australian tour the other day? I speculated that the May 30 Australian release date for the Montreal band's new album, Stay Gold might not be the same in North America. Well, it appears the North American release date will also be May 30, and on these shores the record will be self-released. Montreal quartet Pony Up haven't routed a tour through NYC in a while, but it's not stopping them from jetting halfway across the globe to play some sets down under.
