You may not know this, but our interview with Franki Chan of iHeartcomix was actually one of our first, after meeting him at SXSW in 2008. Franki is also from Bloomington, Indiana, where I went to school. He left B-Town for LA, launched Check Yo' Ponytail and tons of other things, and hasn't looked back. His party has grown into its first ever tour featuring Spank Rock, Death Set and more. It hits Chicago on 10/28. Check out the trailer below.

If you never invested any time into the indie band Ponytail before, then don't worry about doing it now. The group has decided to call it quits even after their recent well-received release. The group is saying goodbye to their fans with a final video for their single "Easy Peasy". Check out the video after the jump as well as the farewell statement from the group. Baltimore band Ponytail have called it a day after three great records, we received this statement:: "We regret to inform you that the wonder group known as Ponytail have officially called it a day. After releasing their amazing album "Do Whatever You Want All the Time" they were unable to make the touring portion come to life as the members have dispersed across the country in search of other life experiences. It's a bummer the world will never see Ponytail live again because it was truly honest music that filled you with extreme joy. An experience [...]

Baltimore's Ponytail have announced that they have broken up in a statement from the We Are Free label. Makers of day-glo nonsensical spazz-rock that was close to my heart, they will be missed. After releasing their amazing album Do Whatever You Want To All The Time they were unable to make the touring portion come to life as the members have dispersed across the country in search of other life experiences. This really brightened up my morning - an (exclusive) mixtape by the disco-yank Gigamesh for LA blog Check Yo PonyTail . The mix is upbeat, indie with just the right amount of sing-along value. It also features his recent funky-nudisco number "When You're Dancing" featuring Induce. (RAC remix available for download below). I feel that Gigamesh is putting the 'party' factor back into nudisco, and he's really been dominating the blogwaves with consistently good bootlegs and track selection. His forthcoming EP, including "When You're Dancing", is due October 4 via Beatport and Oct 18 on iTunes, and [...]

The next installment in L.A's celebrated Check Yo Ponytail 2 monthly concert series comes this Thursday when Miami Horror, Class Actress, Gigamesh, and LA Girlfriend throw down at the El Rey Theatre. As with every Check Yo Ponytail event, the festivities are proceeded with a mixtape full of exclusive goodies. For this particular collection, curated by Gigamesh, said goodies include previously unheard remixes of Theophilus London, Afrojack, and Katy B. Stream the entire thing below; the tracklist is after that that. For tickets to this Check Yo Ponytail 2 show, or any future ones, visit the concert series' website . [...]
Sadly, the joyous Baltimore art-punk band Ponytail is no more. They've broken up, for real this time. In a statement (reprinted below), they cite the difficulty of touring now that all their members live across the country. And they've left us with one final gift: An aquatic-themed video for " Easy Peasy ," the manic sugar-rush single from their 2011 album Do Whatever You Want To All The Time . The video intersperses live video with assorted found footage. Most of the video seems to concern sea creatures and people jumping into bodies of water, but we also get [...]

As we have seen in just the past year, the Check Yo Ponytail parties in Los Angeles have featured performances from the likes of Javelin and Das Racist . Obviously, anyone who didn't live close to L.A. couldn't, you know, throw down at one of these events. So maybe that's why they have finally decided to take them out on the road this fall. The lineup includes Spank Rock, Pictureplane, Big Freedia, the Death Set, and others, all of whom are intent on making you move and, of course, sweat. Be sure to stay hydrated, y'all. [...]

We resume our reposts of the Blogophilia series this week with volumes 8 and 8.5. Why 8 and 8.5? Well, I mixed these at the same time, and the tracks came from the same collection of songs I reviewed. Calling one 8 and the other 9 didn't feel right. We've also had a 12.5, and recently a 26.5 for the same reason. Like volume 7, these two mixes really capture the summer spirit. Volume 8.5 has a throw in from an "oldie but goodie." Enjoy... Blogophilia Volume 8 [...]

The Check Yo Ponytail mixtapes provide a perfect glimpse of what to expect from the artists featured on the CYP2 stage. They allow us to get inside the minds of the performers, bringing the audience closer to the bands that they love. Recently, we asked Dntel and Nite Jewel to share with us some of their selections as they get ready for their Check Yo Ponytail appearances. This resulted in two fine additions to the series. This first mixtape is from Jimmy Tamborello's Dntel project. Inspired by the ambient sounds [...]
