Birthplace Of The Mystics by We Are Hex I love these guys' press quotes... " A quartet that plays whatever the hell it likes. Wails, shouts, meandering guitars and more are laid over an impressively throbbing rhythm section. I suppose you could call this "gloom," but the drums and bass are simply too jaunty. A fine collection of disconcerting sounds. " -Aidabet.com We Are Hex will be traversing the Eastern U.S. this summer in support of their upcoming Roaring Colonel Records release Hail The Goer [...]

Usually each year Siren Fest makes two rounds of announcements of performing acts. This year the Village Voice sponsored festival has saved some of the best for last, making a third round announcement and adding Holy Fuck , Ponytail , Dom , and Apache Beat to the lineup. As good things come in threes, the third annual afterparty lineup has also been announced. If you aren't tired from the day's events, We Are Scientists and Lightspeed Champion are slated to play at the Music Hall of Williamsburg [...]

Iggy Pop ^ Photography credits: ^ = Leah Pritchard * = Ama Chana Friday Having left Glasgow at a ridiculously early hour to ensure prompt arrival at 'My First ATP' (Early Learning Centre™), it is more than slightly disappointing to encounter traffic issues on the M5 and miss Broadcast entirely and only just catch the closing chords of Built to Spill . Cold Cave 's is the first full set we see, in the dark, mid-sized [...]

When The Line Of Best Fit asked me to write a blog from ATP I agreed instantly. All Tomorrow's Parties is one of the highlights of my year. It's basically just a chance to get really drunk, go on some waterslides and watch loads of amazing bands with your friends, maybe not in that order. So when my editor told me this blog didn't need to be done until after the festival I was even happier. Who wants to be running around looking for wifi when bands like Boredoms, Iggy, and Ponytail are playing? Exactly. The only problem [...]

Delicate Steve is the project of Steve Marion. I was immediately drawn towards Delicate Steve through the track 'Butterfly'. The energy, driving-speed and addictive guitar melody would not exit my head days after a casual listen on Myspace. After returning to their page I listened to more of the tracks online and took a gander at some of their live videos . Hot damn, that looks like a fun show. Delicate Steve's album 'Wondervisions' came out in December of '09 on compact disc and iTunes, but will be reissued on vinyl this summer with some bonus [...]

If you read the bios of our writers here at girlpants, one of the things you'll inevitably notice is that every single one of them spends and inordinate amount of time discussing the subject's childhood, generally in fond if overly wacky terms. Mike was born under a bad sign in Death Valley; Ben had an idyllic childhood, filled with boats; Joel matured into a rugged outdoorsman in the wilds of West Boca Raton, while somehow remaining perpetually 13 years old (this part is true); Niina was raised by bears. Jason, well... we're not sure he was ever a child. [...]

Gnnnnggggg.....what's this? This strange whistling...is it my brain or the kitchen appliances? Energy wavering....clocks running backwards...vomitous globes of ectoplasmic energy slowly cannibalising and regurgitating themselves outside my bedroom window...what the fuck? It can't be...can it? It is. Gnwwwiiip...I'm inside a rip in the space time continuum. OK Good. I was hoping for this. Now that the rules of time and space are getting diddled silly, I can fuck a few Animal Collective related albums into one position without explaining myself. [...]

Dustin Wong - Breezy Comfort Compilations only interest me if they do 1 or more of the following: A) Introduce me to new bands while incorporating bands I already know and like, B) Have exclusive songs by great bands that I won't find elsewhere, or C) Generally have a cool "mixtape" feeling. GREAT NEWS. Peeling accomplishes all 3 in spades. Before I go any further, I need to press upon you just how fucking PUMPED [...]
Sometimes a sound will hit you like a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside a lead pipe. That was what it was like the first time I ever heard the amazing yelping voice of Molly Seigel, lead singer of Ponytail. She's like a noise rock version of early Björk, her voice a boundless sea of energy erupting and escaping in the most unlikely directions. She's toned things down slightly recently, so for the full sonic shower experience turn to their first album, the 2007 release Kamehameha . From it, here is the lunatic [...]

If ever there are two things that do not go together, its wind instruments and hardcore. At least i thought so until i witnessed San Fransisco band, Death Sentence: Panda! They are a three piece made up of heavily effected flutes, clarinets or saxophones, brutal math laden drums and occasional keyboard noise. Their singer (comparisons suck, sorry) reminds me of a fusion of Poly Styrene from X Ray Spex and Molly Seigal from Ponytail with her a-tonal screams riding high above the mix. The sound [...]

My apologies for the delay in these photos - I didn't finish this roll until a fortnight ago. And together with a 120mm roll, they begged me to be developed but my pockets were feeling a little light. Eventually they got developed and the time they did, I fell incredibly ill (and still am). Slopfrenzy was of course at the start of this month but here are the few photos from it. Ponytail Telepathe
Sorry this is a bit late...but for once, I decided to sleep in (all the way til 7am!) and then it was straight to work for a 2 hour meeting. But hey, our slight delays don't downgrade the level of radness we've got below. So here we go,...it's not breakfast, it's brunch. Either way, I'm starving for food and new tunes, so let's get rolling. [...]

"My name is Rose. I can't have any children due to the fact of having cancer as a child. Now I'm all grown up and wanting a child of my own! So recently one of my best friends purchased a monkey and she dressed it up and took it over to my house. I fell in love with it. It reminded me so much of a child. Then about a week ago she moved out of state and took the monkey with her. And I made up my mind then and there that I wanted a baby monkey. I haven't [...]
