Ok, time for the very first Waves mixtape in series I'd like to continue with a few of my favourite genres to give you a bit of an introduction; the rest of the hunting is up to you. Not all of these would be considered totally shoegaze, but delve a bit into Dream-pop and noise rock too. MP3: 1. Ride - Seagull First track of their first album, and is always a great starter for any mixtape. Full of pounding, feedback laden guitars along with the signature poppy, breathy shoegaze [...]

If you live in Melbourne and regularly go out and check out some of the local bands out there, very high chances you would have heard this trooper along the way. Popolice is a one-man shoegaze/pop experience, and Ive already posted some stuff a while back from the same EP, but its still just as good when I come back to it. MP3: Popolice - Action Lovefingers hails from NYC and has been producing some great disco tunes and edits for years now, along [...]

My Dad used to tell me that The Presets were just ripping off Depeche Mode . I didn't really get it until I really started listening to them. This track I first saw on Rage years and years ago, then on the Anton Corbijn directors DVD and it kinda just stuck in my head. I suggest watching the video here first, its just a perfect example of Corbijn's ability to create a non-sensical narrative yet have it compliment the track so well. MP3: Depeche Mode - Behind The Wheel [...]

Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie, AKA Popolice , is probably the most underrated Melbourne act around, producing some of the most mesmerizing pop/shoegaze. I honestly cannot sing this guys praise enough. Creative genius. Every time I see him play is a treat, even if my eardrums do suffer a little afterwards from the wall of noise. These recordings don't really do him justice, and you should do yourself a favour and pop on down to his next gig, wherever it may be. Some of you may have heard a track of his on the Cut Copy So Cosmic mix last [...]

Popolice, or Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie as his mother calls him, brought his knowledge of New Zealand experimental noise over to Melbourne around the Y2K and since then has done nothing but impress the locals with his mesmerizing live shows which can't help but remind you of My Bloody Valentine crossed with a more up tempo David Shrigley. Also listen really close on Cut Copy's 'So Cosmic' mix, he's there in between Panda Bear and Delia Gonzalez/Gavin Russom . He released an EP titled 'Middle Ground' last year so hound your local independent music shop for [...]
