Dignan Porch are playing songs from their new album alongside those from the first album and EP and the new material sounds great – the same electricity as the older songs but with a riot of different textures – a little krautrock, some psychedelia, even a touch of guitar rock, and it's as powerfully attractive as a scrapyard magnet. Their set combines bona fide classics like 'Surge' and 'On A Ride' with majestic psych-pop supernovas of sound that will be formally unveiled on record on 23 July, which can't come too soon. One day Japanese fans [...]

I was formally introduced to Porches thanks to a cool blog called This Bonus Track . They had an introduction piece on Aaron Maine , who has been recording and playing under the Porches moniker in the upstate NY area. The EP Summer of Ten was his most recent work that came out back in January and the entire album was written in December 2010. The music is a cross of indie and folk, but it is some good stuff. Check out Summer of Ten below. Fresh? [...]

Frontman, Aaron Maine has been writing and playing under the name PORCHES ( porches.bandcamp.com ) for quite some time now and beyond being one of the most notable live acts in his Up-State-NY music scene, he's released three nearly perfect records. From the debut Summer of Ten through his most recent work, a collection of songs, otherwise un-released, PORCHES remains one of the most sturdy modern indie-rock acts of our generation. Count the Cash [...]

I really loved Back Porch Marys first album, and when they promised that their new album would be even better I hoped they would come through on that promise. And they really have! Since their last album "Time Of The Broken Heart" was released in 2008, they've been busy with an increasingly busy touring schedule. Despite the road, they were still able to get these songs on tape. I read an interview when the last record came out, and found that singer Mike Krug hates being in the studio, so recording these songs must have been done quickly [...]
Yesterday was a perfect birthday. Waiting for me outside when I opened the door were mums from my dear friends Tony and Clare. What day doesn't bring wonder when it starts with flowers? After that, the present which had been sitting where I could see it for a few days finally got opened. I loved it. My sisters called in the morning and one of them sang a bit. I had my usual Wednesday dinner with friends, and it was ribs, one of all time favorites. I got a cake, more presents and a rendition of Happy Birthday. The evening [...]

Young Coconuts Three thank-goodness-the-fantasy-foo tball-season-has-been-saved reasons to keep drinking hot coffee despite the obvious reason to switch to iced and then head over to Panchos tonight... 1. Three words... rock. 'n. roll. Well, two words and a cute little abbreviation, really. Check out Young Coconut . These guys play instruments and sing in a gravelly way and when those things come together you get some righteous rock. Not quite the Replacements or Archers of Loaf but not not quite that either. Just [...]

Porch Fire is the début release from Regina, Saskatchewan collaborative Cameron Wensel a.k.a. Black Drink Crier (guitars) and the Lazy MK's Judd Stachoski (drums), Travis Reshaur ( Bass). Wensel is a veteran on the local Regina music scene and played with celtic punk band Westport Murders, on this six track EP he's shifted to a country roots style and pulled it of in fine style, the EP has echo's classic 902s alt-country sound without sounding stale and is released on Harvest King Records . Black Drink Crier & The Lazy MK's - Dorrego Square More [...]

PORCHES. — Winter Over The strangely punctuated PORCHES. is one of several songwriting outlets for NY's Aaron Maine, whose work I was recently tipped off to by a couple friends . While his group Space Ghost Cowboys traffics in fairly rock-oriented material, PORCHES. could be reasonably tossed under the ol' "bedroom music" umbrella, making use of more pared-down stylings and electronic arrangements. "Winter Over", which I recently saw performed solo at Brooklyn's Hillstock Festival , is one of several stunners on [...]

You know, I was actually cruising through some Bandcamp stuff a couple or so weeks ago and happened to see this new Porch album. However, I didn't bother to check it out because I had no fuckin' clue that it was the same Porch from the mid-nineties that released a bit of a hidden gem of an album on Mammoth Records around that time. Yet again one of many bands scooped up during post-Nevermind major label feeding frenzy and likely lost in the mix (Mammoth at that point was jointly in business [...]

Recorded half in the studio, half in the bedroom, 'Deluded' is the sound of Dignan Porch stretching themselves. No longer shackled to the lo-fi though charming sound of Tendrils, this is brighter sounding and very catchy indiepop drawing on a range of influences. The excellent 'Like It Was Again' reworks the scratchier 'Like It Was' on Tendrils, producing more-ish melancholic pop reminiscent of the Chills in their prime. 'Footsteps In the Snow' also reprises the earlier 'Footsteps', with a dramatic rhythmic pulse that would send a Galaxie 500 fan into convulsions, while 'I Threw Myself From Tower Bridge' [...]

Dignan Porch, from Tooting, SW London, began life as a bedroom project of Joe Walsh and are now a five-piece band comprising Joe (vocals, guitar) and his younger brother Sam (guitar), plus friends Hayley Akins (keyboards), Ben Goodwin (bass) and Phillippa Bloomfield (drums). They're signed to Brooklyn label Captured Tracks for whom they've recorded the blissed out 90-second lo-fi pop gem 'On A Ride' on 7" and album Tendrils, and most recently the 12" EP 'Deluded' (first 400 copies on blue vinyl), which sees them take some of their songs out of the bedroom and into a studio without [...]

"He don't move, he don't flinch, Clyde he don't move an inch..." If I had to pick one character from a song to trade places with, it would probably be J.J. Cale's Clyde . "Just sits on the porch without no shoes, picking his bass and singing the blues..." That's the life. J.J. Cale - Clyde MP3
Back to our Dignan Porch session this week for a few quick questions and another great performance. Next up the London five-piece played 'The Game We Made' - one of the many highlights off their excellent debut 'Tendrils'. So whilst the band can dress it up any way they want - their melodies just keep on coming. You can read the Bowlegs Review for 'Tendrils' here: Dignan Porch - Tendrils You can also read a Bowlegs Call Back with the band here: Dignan Porch - Call Back
Bowlegs Vision welcomed Dignan Porch to the studio recently and the London band were on fine form. First up they played 'Footsteps in the Snow' - a track from their recent 'Deluded' EP released on Captured Tracks.
