In contrast to the full-band set posted a few weeks ago, Erin Roberts of Porlolo toned the things down for Surfacing #9 at the Meadowlark by inviting long-time collaborator Roger Green on-stage for a duo show. Erin and Roger apparently released a split album back in 2004, but I've yet to stumble upon or hear a copy of it. This weekend was a complete derailment of all intended rock-and-roll-lifestyle plans of official musical merriment, but what is late Spring all about if not sitting on patios for hours, sipping some sort of cherry juice concoction and getting sunburned? Or standing under gorgeous old trees in a backyard, barbequeing hot dogs and ...bison (!). All in all, a fabulous weekend - 'cuz summer's almost here. Here's the new songs I am listening to, as we welcome June with the windows down. Song Away Hockey [...]
I found a review for the South Park Music Festival that I wrote back in '06 before I had the music Blog, and I figured to prepare for my posting more about the Monolith Music Festival, I'd post it. I don't know if you knew this, but the Monolith Music Festival is run by one of the guys who ran the South Park Music Festival , so without the SPMF , Monolith wouldn't be around (though it seems as though another new Festival, the Fresh Track Music Fest , also [...]
with Bad Weather California, Wentworth Kersey, Sorellina and the dancing Team Firefox Friday 18 July 2008, Hi-Dive, Denver by Linda Ruth Carter Cd release shows are always hold a little more excitement than any other. It's kind of like a birthday celebration. (New songs are born and here's this shiny document to prove it.) Friday at the Hi-Dive was definitely a celebration of Porlolo's second full length release, Meadows. This show was fun. If you read no further, just know that much is true. I've not kept it a secret that [...]

I only found this band recently, and I am absolutely delighted with this album. Delight is probably the right word for the music as well, which simply leaks loveliness into your life as if it had an infinite supply to spread around. It's somewhat fitting that the last song should be called Charm School too, seeing as that is a lesson Porlolo could teach you in their sleep. Porlolo have quite a lot in common with the likes of Laura Viers and other thoughtful, slightly introverted acoustic campfire ladies. That's a slightly glib stereotype, but particularly in the [...]
Because this blog has become a very sociable thing of late, and I have never actually met or spoken to Rich from Atlanta blog Cable & Tweed, I have neglected his site a little bit of late. This is foolish because Rich has is responsible for introducing me to more than a couple of bands [...]
