Jean-Louis Brossard is Art Director at the Rencontres Trans Musicales Festival in Rennes. At this year's 34th edition of the festival we talked with him about his passion for music, the beginnings of the “Trans” in the ambiance of the 70ies and how he discovers talents for the wide ranged line-up. “Music is there for

Please donate to the Mousemas Eve 2012 Fundraiser. RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw [...]
Long since a staple of Beak>'s inimitably immaculate live show , trepidatious listener meet Kenn; Kenn meet trepidatious listener. Now featured as the flipside to recent single Mono , it here becomes accessible even to the less obsessive Invada enthusiast. The prime disparity I've always found to be intrinsic when comparing the LPs and live shows of the trio also comprising label honcho Geoff Barrow and Fairhorns' Matt Loveridge concerns bassist Billy Fuller's central involvement. Yes, his bulbous lines tinge the records with their dub undercurrent though it's only [...]
Billed as one story told two ways , the creative conjoining of sludgy Tokyo heck-raisers Boris and Bristol's now quiet rioter Joe Volk is a weird one in innumerable ways. Though will the imaginatively entitled Split Release be forever remembered as one of the greater stories told across 2012 now that we've truly descended into the nebulous blizzard of year-end, list-phrased prioritising? Well, the obvious answer would be a staunch no . Though that is primarily because most of said lists were outed long before this week's release date. [...]
Let me start by making a confession: though I’ve loved Suuns ever since I heard them first around two years ago, I’d hardly heard of any of the bands on their curated line up for this year’s Sonic City . At first I planned on checking out each and every band thoroughly, but in the end I listened to the mixtape (put together by De Kreun ) only a couple times. At which point I took the executive decision to make it a festival of genuine discovery. I figured that, if I loved Suuns [...]
"Sorry, I'm shit at this" guitarist, vocalist, hulusi charmer, and general dissonance sorceress Charlie Romijn self-effacingly 'fesses midway through our tête-à-tête on a blustery mid-November night, prior to what later proves a gloriously rambunctious grizzly upstairs and more pertinently inside the gimmicky whiskey lounge outside which we freeze . Razor blade winds prowl and snarl the length of Penton street, offset only by the equally snappy revving of dilapidated motors. "These never get easier. Awful." Whilst Wiltshire trio Thought Forms may not be all that well versed when it comes to the knack of the [...]
Whenever the Invada brigade escape the West Country, rev the mopeds, and come hurtling down the M4 to invade, theirs is a giddy roadshow ever worth gatecrashing. And tonight proves to be no exception to such rigid ruling: the label founded by Geoff Barrow and the somewhat more enigmatic Redg Weeks has been excreting consistently challenging, and often absolutely consummate releases for these past few years now, and indeed estimable artistic consistency has proven key. Thus far it has, and long may it continue to unlock doors for the likes of Matt Loveridge's most-shots-a-coconut offshoot Fairhorns , The Fauns, [...]

Minneapolis based four piece All Eyes , are an eclectic collaborative band, focusing on soft dance tones and acoustic pop. Writing compelling and hypnotic songs that captivate on both a musical and spiritual level, is what makes this band exception. With lead singer Alicia Wiley making every tune as captivating as the last, this is a band aptly named. All Eyes’ debut album 'Shelf Life,' released earlier this month, is an ornate piece of art, with a softness that is perfectly balanced with a subtle dystopian melancholy. Sultry female vocals are the key to this album’s beauty. [...]

Each day this week, in anticipation of the deadline for voting on the Festive Fifty 2012 Shortlist , I'll be listening to the Contrast Podcast Festive Fifties of yore (2012's will be the 6th!) and trying to track down the videos of the Top 5! By the 2nd year of the Festive Fifty, I was ready. I had my list set to go before the call came for submissions and I even knew a lot of the songs on the shortlist! This was the year when I actually found new bands to [...]
It's nice to be pleasantly surprised once in a while, and Free Reign , the new album by UK band Clinic, has been on high rotation here at Flavorpill of late. We've always rather liked Clinic's work, but we'll be honest — we didn't expect to enjoy this record nearly as much as we have been. Perhaps the most notable thing about Free Reign in comparison to Clinic's other records is just how interesting its production and general sound is, which is perhaps not surprising since Oneohtrix Point Never assumed production duties. There [...]
Not only did the Pune edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender see over eighty bands at six stages at a beautiful location, it also saw people wearing some rather quirky t-shirts. We picked out the best indie band tees we saw, both Indian and international, and threw in some WTFs for funsies.

Big week for Invada, and so too for Matt Loveridge. Not only does he release the discombobulating and somehow disconcertingly brilliant Doki Doki Run under the guise of Fairhorns , but his Beak> project also outed their first fit-for-radio single. Tuned in to that traditionally concise 3-minute mode, Mono is quite irrefutably their finest could-be-popular recording to date and were sophomore effort >> not quite so damn majestic , we'd be here bemoaning its omission from finalised track listing. The track again sees the trio scratch away at the dubby [...]
