This weekend, it's all about the covers, so if you haven't taken a peek at our Covers For The Weekend playlist, we suggest you do so. For the rest of you, the covers continue through this weekend which, of course, falls into our Weekend Burn ; and who would be better than a few covers from the Shins, whose album Port of Morrow is still ringing in our ears. For the Postal Service, the popularity of their album Give Up will never seem to go away. The Shins rendition of "We Will Become [...]
In the spirit of Dntel's blip-pop, Philadelphia's Resistor builds arrangements bordering on 8-bit cacophony, like a keyboard graveyard where at night the electronic carcasses come to life to haunt one another. "Lighting and Distance" pokes and prods itself toward a crystalline chorus of, "so tell me lies, little lies", a satisfying and hook-driven slice of treble before breaking down into a
Think of the Postal Service and the update Ben Gibbard's vocals with a dose of Morrisey's literacy and the moroseness of Jens Lekman. This brings you close to Farragoes, a synth-pop collaboration between Tom Avis and Jeff Craley, the parallels to the aforementioned mail-reliant project running deeper as one half of the band resides in Toronto and the other in DC and most of their music comes

I would beseech you, in interest of your own capacity for living life, to give this album a chance...
This weekend I stumbled upon a great cover of the staple Such Great Heights. Their take on the classic song from The Postal Service is skewed heavily toward the ska genre and the opening thirty seconds are brilliantly rendered by their horn section. Honestly my only gripe is that the horns take such a back seat throughout the remainder of the song. Enjoy. mp3 : Streetlight Manifesto - Such Great Heights (The Postal Service Cover) You seriously need to listen to this track. At least the first thirty seconds or so. It's still [...]
Chilled music. Chilled electronic music with a pop consciousness. Chilled electronic music drawn from almost every dance angle over the past 7 years without sounding overworked. Vocals that almost remind me of Death Cab For Cutie / Postal Service, just gentler. That's why I like Junior Boys. And It's All True is a gentle album, not as in weak or uninvogorating, but soothing, pleasing and smooth. That's my Junior Boys experience. What's yours like? Their remix of Labyrinth by the french electro producer Joakim for his latest ep is easily the best remix of them all: [Joakim - Labyrinth (Junior [...]

Listen to " Bright Night ", the lead single from Dntel's new album, "Aimlessness ". Dntel - Jimmy Tamborello, the DJ half of pereptually beloved (and perpetually on-hold) synthpop band Postal Service - is back with a new album in May, "Aimlessness" . Below, stream the first single "Bright Night" . The track is unsurprisingly and reassuringly glitchy and dense, skewing more into the IDM side of Tamborello's aesthetic. The familiarity has me excited for new work from him; after Postal Service [...]

Inspired by the return of one of my favorite TV shows, the hyper self-aware Community (whose Abed could be considered the patron saint of meta-humor) and the self-referring "Simple Song" on the new Shins album out this week, I've made a mix of my favorite meta-referential songs. By this I mean songs that include specific references to themselves in the lyrics (stuff like "it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth...", "take it to the chorus" and "Second verse, same as the first verse" are out). It turns out there are a [...]
![[Listen/Download] – Ducky – "The Whether" EP](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4125160_lg.jpg)
Listen to and download the new(-ish) EP from Ducky , "The Whether" . It's pretty dark. Um, Ducky , what happened? You used to be such a sweet little girl. I suppose there were warning signs - your "Boys Club" mixtape from last October, for example. That flirted with the dark side; a grubby, subby touch not often found on Postal Service -influenced indietronica. But the Venetian Snares sex-noises and ridiculous kick drums seemed like playful experimentation, neatly packaged as they were in [...]
Roses are red, Violets are blue, Here's a mix to listen to. Steel Train - I Feel Weird The Postal Service - We Will Become Silhouettes Rivers Cuomo - Lover in the Snow Elliott Smith [...]

There's a very special kind of music that I like to listen to on a rainy day or when I can't sleep. It's the type of music that's soft, slow, and relaxing, and instead of playing around with a ton of different instruments, it typically features just a guitar or piano and a voice. With the gloomy winter weather that we have been having in Toronto lately, I've found myself listening to artists like Iron and Wine and Patty Griffin on repeat. Both acoustic in a number of [...]

01 If I'm going to start a project about covers, this is pretty much the way to send it off. I'm not one to state that a cover is better than the original, because without the original, the cover wouldn't exist. This is all very philosophical, but I am a music blogger after all. However, in this situation, the cover made me appreciate the original structure. Ben Marwood 's take on The Postal Service 's is a stripped down, acoustic, melodic, melancholic track (much more along the lines of [...]
![[Introducing] – The Sayitaints](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4029861_lg.jpg)
Tweet I can tell you virtually nothing about The Sayitaints . There are two of them: John Gudenzi and Marc Nieto. They have one track out: "Flutter" . They're from Baltimore? They like to pump 808s. From here on out, it's just my opinion. To be perfectly honest, you're almost as well just skipping this bit and listening to the track for yourself. But let it never be said that I don't like the sound of my own voice, so [...]

Unless you live under a rock, you know who Birdy is. Her music has been featured in several shows, including the hit show Vampire Diaries . That was the first time I heard her rendition of Bon Iver's, Skinny Lover . Then a few month's later her xx - Shelter cover was featured on the show. Afterward, I could NOT escape the covers and the moody Sophie Mueller translation of the track via the delicious video did not make me forget her at all. [...]

Every damn cover that Birdy does has me falling hopelessly back in love with this 15-year old. Stop it! It's not right! Birdy - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Postal Service cover)

Birdy 's been around for sometime now, and she's proven time and again that she understands how to create powerful and effective covers. Her latest remake is of The Postal Service's (remember them?) "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," removing the funky electronic bleeps and enhancing the beauty of the song with her ethereal voice. Birdy - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (Postal Service cover)

I feel like the whole world has already heard about indie-pop duo, Midi Matilda . I look around the interweb and see sources as big as the Huffington Post featuring them. How did MTIB miss them? I'm not sure. It's easy to miss a lot in the music world nowadays, but I'm not here to make excuses, because it doesn't really matter when you hear this band. It matters that you hear them. Midi Matilda writes infectious pop music that is comparable to Postal Service , but only in the way that almost any band that [...]
