As part of The Orchard's Creative Licensing team, we're always on the hunt for interesting covers. This month, we've assembled a playlist of some of of our favorite discoveries from the past year, including Albert Hammond, Jr. of The Strokes taking on the Big Star power-pop classic "Thirteen;" The Dandy Warhols' ...
I wish I could say I hate Powerman 5000 with a passion or, to the contrary, I've got a guilty pleasure for them - but the truth is I don't think I've ever heard a single Powerman 5000 song other than this one. Everything about this video (and band) is so hilariously early '00s, but [...]
Weird mix of shows this week. Let's start with the industrial rock explosion that's going to happen this spring, and then again this fall: The LA electronica/punk 90s band Powerman 5000 will play the Beaumont on Thursday, September 13.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]
This week's column does feature a few new releases, but that doesn’t mean this is a good week in metal. Hella’s new album is my personal highlight. Let's take a look at what's new this week after the jump. Century – Red Giant (Prosthetic) Aggressive, energetic metallic hardcore is definitely the base for this record [...]

Powerman 5000 is a Boston-based rock band formed in 1991, whose frontman happens to be the younger brother of one Rob Zombie. Tonight the Stars Revolt was their second major label release which came out in 1999 and sold over a million copies. In the loosest sense it might be called a concept album. No specific story is being told yet there is a theme based on campy science fiction reminiscent of the 1950s. Frontman Spider One seems to have a fixation on bygone science fiction much like older brother Rob's obsession with B-movie horror themes. The album [...]
Hearken back the good memories of late 1999 as tonight, these stars revolt! For the first time in ages it seems according to Blabbermouth , the Boston based electronica horror/futuristic metal outfit Powerman 5000 is kicking off a national tour in response to their newest digital single "V Is For Vampire" . Not to be undone, Spider and the gang have posted more previews of new material via the band's MySpace page - the band's newest batch of original material since since 2006's Destroy What You Enjoy. A new album is [...]
Not in the "OMG PM5K rulez!!!" kind of way; in fact, I don't own and haven't even heard any of their full albums. But in the "when the song comes on the radio I don't change it, and I kind of enjoy it" type of way. In fact, just yesterday their early-oughts hit "Free" came [...]

SomaCow Media is proud to present SomaCow , brought to you by Draft Gore because it ends up our conservative little Mickey wants Gore for president in '08. It's true! It's been at least a week since I picked on Ross, right? OK, let me explain, if I haven't before, what Ross is to do as one of his jobs during the show. Ross takes notes. These notes are to be used for two things. 1) If we ever want to look [...]

SomaCow Media Network is proud to present SomaCow , brought to you by Chef Scott. The man makes some incredible meat, and we thank him for his call in from the Gun and Knife and Nose Fireball Show . In this hour, we discussed our various misspent youths (what is a yout?), the need to have bullets and things that shoot bullets, and a reader's question for you, our audience. What is it about the 8-bit and 16-bit era of games that continues [...]
