The first time I saw The Preakness live I was completely blown away. The guitar work of Brandon Arnold is so intricate, so inspired, and so effortless it makes you want to quit playing your own instrument because there is absolutely no way you could ever be that graceful and intuitive. Throw in multi-instrumentalist/co-vocal ist Tracy Clark and inventive drummer Matt Glagola and you have what is perhaps the best live act Atlanta has to offer. Their debut album A Class Act In A Bad Situation just [...]
Brandon Arnold of local indie pop band the Preakness does the Roll Call interview.
Zoroaster, Eva Kennedy and the Preakness invade Atlanta.

Lots and lots of great shows this week. Friday and Saturday night the We No Fun compilation party is going down at The Drunken Unicorn. Thursday night the Band Together 2009, a benefit for Refugee Family Services, is happening at The Earl. We sponsored 2007's event and their headliner this year, Louisiana's Brass Bed , killed it at a house show we did a year ago so I highly recommend that. Also, I left off M83 at the Civic Center Friday night because it is sold out and I could never [...]

The Rosebuds Last Monday night's show at The Earl was a really good one. The Preakness did a typically solid set. The Love Language were nice live, although they are bit too conservative/old-school country-ish for my tastes. The Rosebuds ' live show was thoroughly enjoyable and fun, and they appeared to have quite a fanbase in the ATL. Here are a ton of pics and videos: The Preakness : [...]

Bradley and Adam spar on this episode, which has an interview from one of their favorite Atlanta bands Howlies. Tracks played on the show: Sean Morrissey - Manhatten Brian Eno and David Byrne - Strange Overtones Lackthereof - Choir Practice The Faint - Faciinatiion Howlies - Sea Level Howlies - Dirty Woman The Airborne Toxic Event - The Airborne Toxic Event The Preakness - [...]
Corndogorama is the best local music fest in Atlanta, so that is the biggest deal this week. We will have our guide to Corndog' soon, but there is also a ridiculous amount of other great shows going on in town this week, so here's some: Tonight I urge you to catch Times New Viking, The Preakness , Gold Painted Nails at The Earl. The Preakness : Demons Wednesday night I'm going to catch the Russian [...]
The "running of the urinals" is amazing it's like some hillbilly bmore american gladiators shit. preakness , Video
And here's a few of my recent favorites: The Antlers, "In The Attic" Chris over at The Battering Room has mentioned these guys a number of times before, but for some reason I never went out of my way to listen to them. Quite possibly one of the biggest mistakes I've made in a while. The band's new album, In The Attic of the Universe, is spectacular (if a tad short). Listen for yourself --
Who are The Preakness ? Fine question! They're a trio out of Atlanta consisting of vocalist/guitarist Brandon Arnold , bassist Tracy Clark , and drummer Tim Genius . I remember seeing them last July as they were an opener for Cold War Kids / Sound Team , but when I saw them perform they really caught my attention as they played some nice, straight to the point indie-pop which is all I could ever ask for really. At the time when I was looking for more information [...]

I noticed a few people got here by searching elbo.ws et al for The Preakness. Here's their demo (posted with the band's permission and their qualifyer that this was recorded "in the basement.") If you dug what was coming out of Boston in 1989 , D.C. in '93 , or Madison in '97 , this is for you. My new Rock Crush (because I know you're interested) is Preakness bassist Kelly Clark, who now pulls double-duty in Silent Kids . MP3: [...]

It's extremely nice to get out and see a good live show again. I haven't been in months since the Jenny Lewis show, and i was just happy to be there regardless if last night's show was good or bad. Thankfully enough the show as a whole was really great. I'll be honest though as i think this was the first show i'd been to where the supporting act completely upstaged the headlining band. I felt kinda bad for Sound Team because as soon as Cold War Kids finished their set, it [...]
I can say without a doubt that tonight will be one of the best shows of 2006 that you will see in Atlanta. I say this because tonight, Sound Team , Cold War Kids , and Atlanta locals The Preakness play The Earl . Some of you probably saw Cold War Kids open for Tapes N Tapes at the sold out Drunken Unicorn show two months ago. Everyone that showed up early whole heartedly agreed that Cold War Kids stole the show. [...]
