Pree debuts with A Chopping Block

When I first heard May Tabol's voice on the "In The Parlor" track, I instantly thought of the scratchy vocal haunts of Coco Rosie. She's got a beautiful voice accompanied by glockenspiel, guitars and soft piano music. DC's Pree is debuting with a 5-track EP called A Chopping Block which will roll out late March via Kora Records (The Fairline Parkway, Gregor Samsa). Definitely can't wait for a tour and a debut full-length from these guys. Check out this single from the EP, I think you'll dig it. [...]

News: Pree (ex-Le Loup) prep debut EP

Washington, DC-based sort-of-freak-folk group Pree features the haunting, hyper-literate, creaky vocals of May Tabol, former member of the excellent Le Loup, who weaves intricate webs over the course of the five songs on the band's debut EP, A Chopping Block . The disc sees release via The Kora Records on March 24 and we've got the first pre-release track for your mass consumption. "In The Parlor" is a trudging, quiet, morose number comprised of subdued strumming and drums and Tabol's fractured caw is--as it should be--right front and center. Tracklist: [...]

News + Sound: Pree put themselves on The Chopping Block

Rarely does EVP jones (yeah, we used it--we're feelin' it) for pop from the other side of the tracks, but when news of Kora 's latest sensation, Pree, made it to our ears we couldn't ignore their catchiness wrapped in awesomeness wrapped in cellophane. While hyped as a hybrid of Modest Mouse, Joanna Newsom, and Regina Spektor, don't be fooled. Pree are completely their own entity as evident from first single, "In the Parlor" (though you're sure to hear hints of the comparisons in the group's music). But "In the Parlor" is just the icing [...]

DC BASED MUSICIANS JOIN TOGETHER FOR SIDE PROJECT ENTITLED E.L.M.S.

Here's how the story goes: *Penned and performed by Susan & Emily Hsu (of Exit Clov), 'Inamorati' also features the voices of fellow district songstresses Laura Burhenn (ex-Georgie James) and May Tabol (Pree, ex-Le Loup). John Thayer of Exit Clov also plays percussion on the studio track. The song's live debut took place at the [...]

AON Sessions: A Performance By Pree

Though one of the newer bands in town, Pree has nevertheless been spreading their expressive tunes all around, making their rounds at the local clubs, some smaller venues & house shows. And in the process, leaving their pretty melodies embedded deeply in the minds of all who hear. The band take their name from a Neutral [...]

Fredrik Launch First-Ever U.S. Tour

The Kora Records recently celebrated the 4th anniversary of their first release by culling some notable performers from its impressive roster for an intimate show at DC9. Pree, who we interviewed pretty recently when they played an Obama benefit set the mood for the night, followed by the traveling songs of Meredith Bragg. But of course, [...]

The Kora Records Presents A Benefit For Change

With only a few days left until Nov. 4, many of you may be feeling the fatigue from the nasty campaigning that has characterized this election. But it's still far too early to sit down and relax or to change the channel. There's still alot of work to be done to help make sure people [...]

Ra Ra Rasputin

Ra Ra Rasputin Ra Ra Rasputin, Rock n Roll, Richie Rich... uh ok, I just got caught up in the whole alliteration thing. I'll limit this post to a simple mathematical equation: Ra Ra Rasputin + Pree (May from Le Loup ) + KOKO + The Male Gaze = one big sweaty mob of dancing shouting fools at the Rock and Roll Hotel this Saturday night. So come out and support a bunch of great DC bands and get your summertime groove on.
