Producer Guillermo S. Herren (aka Prefuse 73) has announced Yellow Year, a record label co-founded with photographer Angel Ceballos launching this June. The initial offering will be the first EP in the twelve volume Speak Soon series. Each release in the series pairs Prefuse 73 with a fellow production luminary for all new collaborative material. Upcoming EPs will feature collaborations with Teebs, Nosaj Thing, Lapalux, Synkro, Nathan Fake, Dimlite, and more to be announced. Yellow Year is just the latest creative chapter in Herren's massively prolific career, encompassing forty individual releases spread across eight production monikers and eight [...]
As a master of both production and collaboration, it seems fitting that Prefuse 73 would launch his own label. Calling it Yellow Year Records, the imprint will be a collaborative effort with photographer Angel Ceballos. Furthermore, the label will kick things off with a series of twelve collaborative EPs called Speak Soon . The EP series will sport collaborations between Prefuse and a number of top-notch artists including Teebs , Nosaj Thing , Lapalux , Synkro, Nathan Fake, Dimlite , and more. A trailer featuring music from the label can be [...]

Alright, so Sean and I are seniors this year. That means, Sean and I are both graduating college this year. My lack of posting can be directly credited to the fact that this is the last batch of finals I will ever be taking. And while very few people actually enjoy studying, 99% of people with beating hearts and two legs do not. So that being said, we've decided to post some songs that help us out during this tough time of spending countless hours in the dirty library. Hopefully they can [...]
Ladies and gentlemen, it's the moment you've all been waiting for: I'm going to post something! Wow. That was really special, wasn't it? I wonder how I'll follow up such a momentous artistic achievement!? You'll have to wait and see! RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited [...]
Taking to Facebook, Nosaj Thing just announced what appears to be a collaborative EP with fellow left-field producer Prefuse 73 . I don't even need to tell you all how exciting this is. On top of that, Nosaj also announced an EP of his own, a King Krule remix, and a How To Destroy Angels remix. Crazy, right? No release date can be found on any of these, but it looks like 2013 is going to be pretty crazy for Jason Chung.
To promote his forthcoming full-length debut on Brainfeeder—called Nostalchic and out March 25th—Lapalux, that British master of tape warble and densely popping percussion, teamed with an unlikely collaborator, LA's inimitable left-field rapper Busdriver, for their ... read more

With plans of touring together, Prefuse 73 takes to a recent Ultraísta cut and gives it the old remix treatment. While the original is certainly smoother and more accessible, Prefuse's take on the drifting single is glitched-out and layered magnificently. The change-ups and transitions are where 73 really shines here, exploding into different dimensions and pulling things right back to where they started. The original is easily recognizable, but there is no doubt Prefuse made this track his own. Listen to the remix below and check out the tour dates at the bottom of the post. [...]
After a brief but successful U.S. tour in October, multimedia electronic trio Ultraista are returning stateside in support of their self-titled debut. Formed in 2011 in London "on a mutual love of Afrobeat, electronic and dance music, visual art and tequila," Ultraista combines the artistry of vocalist Laura Bettinson, famed Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and ...

The walk between Moogfest' s U.S. Cellular Center and the much more intimate Orange Peel is approximately 18 minutes. Not too bad in festival terms, and instead of battling the hoard during that time, the hike is better spent grabbing a handmade crepe, petting some puppies, watching a few buskers, indulging in some fine chocolates, and/or sharing some stories over a microbrew with a local. Okay, so maybe the walk can end up taking closer to an hour. That is part of the charm around Asheville. Void of the chains that clutter most downtown skylines, Asheville runs at its own [...]

This is the most sensual thing any of you will hear all day and possibly all week. Two of my all-time favorite beat-makers, Teebs and Prefuse 73 , have come together to form Sons of The Morning . Awaiting the release of an EP, we are blessed with a smooth, plucktastic remix of Rafiq Bhatia 's 'Sunshower'. Follow @OceanPdestrians .

Prefuse 73 and Teebs , creative minds that continue to push the limits of production, have come together to form Sons of the Morning . Their initial public offering comes by way of a remix of Rafiq Bhatia, a jazz musician who absolutely blew me away upon first listen of his original composition, "Sunshower". It was a admirable effort to try and modernize jazz, resulting in a voluminous soundscape that bridged gap a that was once too big to cross. In an effort to shed light on Rafiq's work, Teebs and Prefuse looped up the [...]

Earlier this year, in an unexpected move, Teebs and Prefuse 73 teamed up to craft a record under the moniker Sons of the Morning. The two subtly announced the partnership through a series of tweets in March and it’s only now that we’ve caught a listen of what they have been up to. Their prismatic remix of jazz-leaning guitarist Rafiq Bhatia 's "Sunshowers" won’t be present on Sons of the Morning’s upcoming, unnamed album, though you will be able to find it on Bhatia’s forthcoming EP, Strata Remixes. [...]

Our latest Substitute Teachers comes from Seattle-via-Columbus based producer Rumtum , whose beat tapes and collaborative EP with Monster Rally have been some of our favorite releases this year. I shot him a few questions after listening to his mix. Where does the name Rumtum come from? It's like a Native American/tribal name. Was there a particular track or [...]

Feeling the autumn winds starting to blow, and I'm happy to welcome the season's hearty smells in the air, if not the allergies that come with them. Then there's the thousand yard stare I'm liable to fall into, and luckily, I get several grand avenues in which to indulge it. Here's a song to accompany all of that. Prefuse 73 - Five Minutes Away
