Awesome. In the inbox this morning from Warp, an email telling of the new forthcoming Prefuse album Preparations out late October. The first single features a collaboration with New York wall-of-psych band School Of Seven Bells and Battles drummer John Stanier. "A fierce hip-hop banger" apparently. Most of all, there will be an Irish live date on the 14th October in Whelans. Rock the bells! MP3 Prefuse 73 - No Origin ( Security Screenings , 2006) Prefuse 73 - Hide ya Face [...]

Another weekend another "fest" in Chicago. This one comes at a good price (gate donation of a lincoln) and probably sans quite a few hipsters compared to Pitchfork. There are certainly some great electronic/hip hop groups making appearances (notably Prefuse 73 and Eliott Lipp ). The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Sabertooth (great jazz quartet from Chicago that hold it down at the Green Mill ), The Thermals, Dearborn and electronica jammers Future Rock will all be there. Some might dismiss this thing as a bit of [...]

Signed to Prefuse 73's Eastern Developments label, Brooklyn's LEYODE (All Caps please) come across as a musical meeting between Prefuse himself, Au Revoir Simone (playing tonight!) with possibly some Stereolab thrown in. It's no surprise that Prefuse signed the duo considering they sound so damn similar. He evens appears on their forthcoming album Fascinating Tininess under his Savath y Savalas acoustic moniker. Anyhow the album is great electronic pop album and it's out on June 7th. Also, check out other lesser known acts on Eastern Developments such as A Cloud Mireya [...]
Copy is the electronic one man band from Portland, Oregon made up of Marius Libman. I was sent a song of his off the new album Hair Guitar , and while it's great and I'm here eager to share it, I'm more excited that it sparked my love for really good electronic music again. As in good, experimentally indie, melodic electronic music without all the thumping. The dance hall stuff I can't stand, but the fun, slightly odd numbers are where it's at for me. So enter Copy, electronic music straight out of the 8-bit days and all [...]
Some know we've been finishing off many of our Wednesdays at Low End Theory for the last few months so it wasn't a surprise to those who spotted us last night for the return of Prefuse 73 and the L.A. debut of Bunny Rabbit. Touring with the Rabbit were a few her Brooklyn homies Bruno and the Dreamies and Tha Pumpsta & Derriere (members of the notorious pornocore troupe Durty Nanas). That along

Reading the latest issue of Foggy Notions reminded me of Eliot Lipp , but more specifically a podcast I downloaded back in October from his label Hefty Records , which is a 34 minute mix of Lipp tunes entitled "Electronic Beats" mixed by Lipp himself. It serves as a nice primer into his work as it features work from throughout his catalogue. Lipp's music appeals to fans of the inimitable Prefuse 73 (who released some of his material), as he serves up instrumental hip hop tracks with a distinct glossy electronic edge. The [...]

On Saturday I worked with Panache. I got to drive the van again! Mia and I drove it for a Bat Mitzvah , it was the longest one I've ever worked. We were there from 7am at the shop and back at the shop at 6:30pm. Whoaaaaaaaat! After seeing the dance themed party, I think I want one now too! My latest tank on my TDI was 583 miles. I think that is around 40mpg. Not Bad! [...]

Bernie & I in L.I.C. Just came off a great week with the Bay Area hommies. The best part about having guests in town is that I get to do tourist things with them... which is good, because I'm still a tourist - except I live here. Photos-a-plenty in my Flickr, and all suspects can expect a link via Snapfish.com sometime soon (thanks to Steve, our favorite Hewlett-Packard employee). BTW, whatcha know about TheFPSA.net ? Something for the New Year? Music:Hip-Hop [...]

It’s been a while since the last Disco Pogo post, so here’s volume 9. Another cracker. There’s not a duff track on the CD, but I’ve managed to select six for your listening pleasure. We have James Yorkston providing guest vocals to thy Psychonauts’ nice slice of electro-folk and Calexico getting their Woven Birds given a suitably downbeat rub-down by Stratus. Elsewhere on remix action we have

i was cruising around kix and the city yesterday, and stumbled on a great interview with jeff st aple from back in may. jeff is the founder of staple design as well as disco-not-disco fave the reed space , and is responsible for such iconic nike collabs as the pigeon sb dunk . what really stands out in the interview, however, is his take on bape : The genius of BAPE and the genius behind Nigo is that he [...]
I'm one tired little blogger boy right now, so this will be somewhat of a short post. I'm not one for words, so why don't we just get straight to what we both love best: the music. * Prefuse 73 : Pagina Tres (5.0 mb) | Pagina Seis (8.5 mb) From Prefuse 73 Reads The Books : Warp Records : WAP189 Even though there are no surprises with Prefuse 73 (look here ) remixing The Books (look here ), that doesn't make this EP length remix project any less enjoyable to listen to. In fact, this seems to be a perfect mix of The Books' electro-acoustic wizardry and the [...]

It always surprises how few movers and shakers in pop these days come from Spain. There's no major stars in pop, rock, hip hop, electronica, indie, you name it Sure, there are crossovers, but nothing major. It's not to say there's nothing good coming out of the country - far from it - but it was one of the catalysts in my choosing an act which is not wholly, 100% Spanish, as such, to feature today. Many of you will be familiar with Scott Herren's glitch-hop, going under the moniker of Prefuse73 . Working from his home [...]
