It’s not often we get stuff marketed as the work of a ‘hillbilly savant’. We’re not even sure what that label means in the grand scheme of things – is it self-effacing or a diversity awareness can of worms waiting to flop open? Either way we’ll play it safe and say we’re quite enjoying this Pregnant track, ‘Wiff of Father’ . It’s the work of Daniel Trudeau, sounds like a cross between Will Oldham, Sufjan Stevens and Chad Vangaalen, and it’s taken off the album ‘Regional Music’, which is out through Life’s Blood Records.

California citizen Daniel Trudeau makes some incredibly sophisticated, loop-driven folk pop under the moniker Pregnant , music that is at times pretty reminiscent of the works of Daniel Rossen's Department of Eagles and the more experimental endeavors of Justin Vernon; in particular, Trudeau's voice is in very similar falsetto levels, which works very well for his songs.
