LMB NYC: This Week's Concert Calendar (Feb 6-12)

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe "Brown Sugar" Live @ Bear Creek Music Festival 11-11-2011
Although most New Yorkers are probably still on a high from last night's Giants Superbowl win (or nursing a hangover), I'm looking ahead to a week of NYC-area shows. Plenty of good options on the table this week, including Jay-z, Bjork, tUnE-YaRds, KDTU covering the Stones, and two nights each of Primus and Tea Leaf Green. Read on for all the highlights as I'm seeing 'em...

[Review/Listen] – Puscifer – "Conditions Of My Parole"

[Review/Listen] – Puscifer – "Conditions Of My Parole" Tweet I have a confession to make. I am a huge fan of Tool , A Perfect Circle and all things Maynard James Keenan . HUGE. That being said, I can already see your cursor poised over the Back button, ready to click, but WAIT, hear me out. Puscifer ( puss-if-her ) is a horse of a different color and shouldn't be grouped together with Maynard's other creative accomplishments. Puscifer's music isn't intimidating, like Tool can be, nor [...]

Les Claypool Looks Back on Primus 'Breakup,' Influence of Coen Brothers

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Q + A Getty Images Although Primus got their start in the Bay Area music scene, circa 1984, bassist and band leader Les Claypool is, by now, firmly entrenched in Sonom, two counties north of San Francisco. Wine country. In fact, Claypool even runs a boutique winery called Claypool Cellars, with a tasting room in Sebastopol. Many of his lyrics over the years have referenced [...]

HT Staff's 25 Best Albums Of 2011: #25 – #21

Here at Hidden Track, compiling our end of the year list of the 25 best albums has been eerily similar to the process of devising another top 25 list - the college football top 25. When we started four years ago, we attempted to devise a quantitative methodology that systematized the rankings and took the individual biases out of the equation, while still incorporating the collective views of everyone involved at HT. Well, that was sort of our BCS. This year we're going back to the old school and running it AP Top 25 style. In other words, every writer [...]

Portland psych-rock oddballs Morning Teleportation spread discordant yelps and good vibes at a youth center.

Primus In Italia: Les Claypool e soci tornano a marzo con un nuovo album e uno show di oltre tre ore

List 'Em Carefully: The Top 15 Cult Acts

List 'Em Carefully: The Top 15 Cult Acts The fans, the fans, the fans. It's who all bands take the time to acknowledge. At concerts, artists will always shout out partially histrionic statements like, "We couldn't do this without you...the fans!" And as a result, every fan's devotion soars through the roof (if not eternally). It's somewhat silly, though, not to realize that the fans do make everything possible. People like bands, so they buy their records, see their shows, sometimes blog about them (hey there), "Like" their Facebook pages, live chat with them on Twitter, and on super-rare occasions, even get to meet them . It's [...]

Primus prepare for coming tragedy

Primus - Tragedy's A'Comin' Official Video
Perhaps we're just having a bit of 90s nostalgia today, or maybe it's just because Primus always deliver a great video. Whatever the case, prepare for yourself for the general weirdness of the bass master Les Claypool with "Tragedy's A'Coming," the latest from Primus, which you can view above.

Primus - "Tragedy's A' Comin'" Music Video

Primus - Tragedy's A'Comin' Official Video
Primus have released the first video to their album Green Naugahyde (Read our Primus - Green Naugahyde Review ), and it's pretty weird as you would expect. Les Claypool is a giant lobster, and there's an astronaut riding a horse for no apparent reason. Watch it after the jump. Read more » http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

Video: Primus – "Tragedy's A' Comin'"

Falling in line with the last two-plus decades of wackiness that has been their career, Primus ' music video for "Tragedy's A' Comin'" is a humdinger. To decipher it adequately would require plumbing the perilous psyche of front man Les Claypool, a feat that requires an old diving suit, TNT, and a speargun. From what we can tell without risking a deeper look and fracturing our own minds, there are lots of lobsters, including Claypool in a giant foam lobster suit, people dancing in restaurants, and a very, very discerning astronaut. Peep your eyes on the insanity below (via [...]
