Mlny Parsonz, Evan Diprima, and Josh Weaver make up the Atlanta based doom rock outfit Royal Thunder. While on their rather strangly billed tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Faceless, I was able to have a chat with Josh before their Sacramento gig at The Ace of Spades on May 18th. Josh talked about the progress ... The post Josh Weaver of ROYAL THUNDER Discusses Meeting Prince At An IHOP, The Next Album and More appeared first on Metal Injection .

Prince has shared the video for his most recent single, “FIXURLIFEUP” . It's mostly a performance-based affair, with a few visuals relating to the song's lyrics interspersed throughout. You'll also see Prince make one mean-ass grin. Prince's new album , tentatively titled Electrum , is coming soon. In the meantime, take a listen to his other recent singles, including “Screwdriver” , “Breakfast Can Wait” , "Boyfriend" , and "That Girl Thing" .
When I snagged Zachary Gray (left above) from The Zolas , backstage at his sold out show at the Vogue Theatre (with Calgary band The Dudes ), Zach was a little preoccupied, juggling his two "strapping Scandinavian" merch guys, getting family into the venue and he was being haunted by the ghost of legendary musician Prince (who had performed at the Vogue the night before). This is probably how I got him to spill all the details of his first girlfriend-among other things. Listen to our chat. the interview [...]

photo by Morgen Schuler Last night, singer-songwriter Beck , appeared at Santa Cruz's Rio Theatre to perform music from last year's sheet music album, Song Reader . These songs have not been recorded and this is the first time he has played "Sorry" and "Heaven's Ladder" live. Watch both performances below. No one buys albums anymore, goes the music industry truism. And yet, for all that the format's commercial viability may or may not be on the wane, sitting and listening to a great album from start to finish is one of the greatest pleasures that music can bring. Flavorwire recently got to thinking about how one might build a record collection if you really only did buy one record a year. So here's the result of our thought exercise: 50 albums you really should own, one a year from 1963 until the present day. Yes, of course this mean things [...]

The Billboard Music Awards have historically been the most low-rent of America's non-niche music awards shows, but last night, the show had an unexpected viral moment when Miguel, in the middle of a particularly spirited rendition of " Adorn ," attempted to jump over a section of the audience and ended up doing the Hulk Hogan legdrop on some lady's face. She's reportedly OK, so don't let anything get in the way of laughing at everyone's misfortune; the pratfall happens around the 2:56 mark of the Miguel video below. This instantly became a gif/photoshop meme, so have fun clicking on [...]

Well! It was a dreary night at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, wasn't it? There were forty performances each from Pitbull and Will.i.am ! They only gave out three awards! Justin Bieber talked at length about his craft! Host Tracy Morgan sputtered all of his lines and could barely read the teleprompter! Yes, it was one for the books, folks. One for the books. That said, there were still some highlights — a handful of exceptional performances and some nice moments of shade-throwing from various members of the pop glitterati — and, well, some lowlights. ( Remember when [...]

In case you missed it (or just didn't know it was on), the 2013 Billboard Music Awards took place last night. And among others, Miguel and Prince performed and damn near brought the place down. Not only that, but Miguel almost knocked out a pair of fans when he failed to clear his landing in an attempt to jump over a portion of the pit. He still killed it performing "Adorn", but those two women who got hit probably have some bruises to go along with their ticket stubs. As for Prince, he and his band just continue [...]
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas yesterday, and with almost 20 performances and double the amount of awards. Only online until he awakens and takes her down, Prince performs a bag of hits at the Billboard awards, serves as a reminder as to how brill of a guitarist he is.

The 13th annual Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ceremony featured performances from Prince and Miguel , among others. Prince, who was also honored with a Billboard Icon Award, performed "Let's Go Crazy" and new song "Fix Ur Life Up". Meanwhile, Miguel performed "Adorn". MABMA by YardieGoals And then this happened:

New Jersey-bred house producer Todd Edwards is the latest artist to provide a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and, as expected, it's a killer. He offers up some slick remixes of David Bowie, Sam Smith, Disclosure, Jessie Ware, and even blends Prince and Daft Punk together. Oh yeah, did you know Edwards is on Daft Punk's new album, Random Access Memories ? Yeah, you probably do. You can stream/download the mix and view its track listing below. Track list: David [...]

Could it possibly get any worse than this? What if will.i.am and Justin Bieber's "#thatPOWER" and Mariah Carey's "#Beautiful" kick off a new bad habit in pop: hashtag hits? Isn't it bad enough that they're already continuing another one: The hashtag hits are the latest in pop's long tradition of bastardizing English with its song titles. As usual the end results are mixed, with only Carey's single coming close to warranting its hashtag hype. The shameless bit of built-in marketing doesn't ruin the fact that it's Carey's best single in five years (since 2008, [...]

The Billboard Music Awards are doled out based on chart success, sales and touring performance, so you have to respect that they're the one awards show that's at least up front about this whole spectacle being about money and not art. But because they're based on readily available numbers, you know what you're getting. That makes the BBMAs perhaps the most unnecessary of music awards shows (all of which are unnecessary on some level). However! The Billboard Awards are also great because when you're using the charts as the metric for quality, then you only hob-knob with the [...]

So, its come down to me. This is the last installment of Our Favorite Songs of All Time list and if you haven't already, please check out everyone else's posts, they're great. I knew this was going to be difficult because there is an insane amount of music out there and since we were doing a list based on OUR favorite songs, nothing based off of other critics reviews or other lists, it made it that much more difficult. I built a list of songs based off of my favorite albums, I'd pick a song from a favorite album of [...]

Photo of the Lovesexy album cover by G. Lovesexy by Prince On May 10, 1988, Prince released his final 1980s masterpiece, "Lovesexy." The 9 track album was his most spiritual record to date, possibly influenced by his last minute decision to scrap the dance/funk "Black Album," which contained some of Prince's dirtiest lyrics to date. Prince was the master of mixing spirituality with funk and turning the tables on you as evidenced by songs such as the opener "Eye No," a rewrite of his still unreleased [...]

Straight off the cutting board today, we have two more previews from Macarize’s soon to be released “ Macarize:02 ” compilation.. an unfinished demo from the phenomenal Deadmau5 , a Lüccii bootleg that flirts with One Republic (and Swedish House Mafia).. yet another exceptional remix from Mr. Bo Cendars .. a Yazid Le Voyageur booty of ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’ from GQ’s stalwart of the decade, Prince (full edit in video below).. and an abnormal, but extraordinary mini mix + Killing Joke remix from The Bloody Beetroots . Who actually started [...]
f-Deluxe is The Family; the Prince assembled Minneapolis funk group comprised of Saxman Eric Leeds, sultry singer Susannah Melvoin (twin sister of The Revolution's Wendy) along with former members of The Time- Jerome Benton and Jellybean Johnson, and instrumentalist/ vocalist St. Paul Peterson. Their debut CD, which spawned the hit “Screams of Passion” and the original version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” was a landmark recording and sadly was their only musical output. Until now! The band is back together with a new name- f-Deluxe and 2 new CDs! West [...]
Yesterday we reported on Tuesday night's Prince concert in Tempe, Arizona which featured a guest spot from legendary Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham. Well, Prince returned to the Marquee Theatre again last night and once again Graham emerged to jam with The Purple One. Larry Graham teamed up with Prince and 3rdEyeGirl to perform a reggae version of Joy In Repetition off The Purple One's Graffiti Bridge LP as well as the Sly and the Family Stone classic Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) on Wednesday night. You might recall that [...]
