If you're unaware, Kisses is a project from Jesse Kivel of the band Princeton, and Zinzi Edmundson. The Los Angeles-based duo have recently signed with Cascine , and are set to release their new album, Kids in LA , on May 14. The pair's first album, The Heart of the Nightlife , put their syrupy synths on full display, and it felt particularly timely when it was released, with other couple-duo's (like Tennis) making similarly sweet tunes. "The Hardest Part," the first track from Kisses' new album, doesn't downplay the synth love that they cultivated on their debut, [...]

Night Panther initially sounds a lot like Princeton on latest single, "Fire", a restrained baroque piano progression that unleashes into a full synthesizer jam in its second movement. Previously, the band aimed itself at glossy and sensual synth arrangements, and "Fire" represents an evolution, the first movement tied to a pretty piano and string arrangement and a swooning lyric, "there's a fire under my nose." However, "Fire" proves relentlessly expansive, finishing with a kitchen-sink flourish where Night Panther channels the most satisfying moments of the Scissor Sisters catalog: big piano chord resolutions, synth [...]

![Top 50 Songs of 2012 :: [40-31]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4689273_lg.jpg)
Welcome to our annual countdown of the 50 best songs of the calendar year . Songs must be from an EP, LP or demo released during 2012 and no band may appear twice. Today, we count down 40 to 31. 40. Howth - "Secret Goldmine" Howth, all rich with horns and moral victories offered the outlines of a clandestine financial reserve on glittering single, "Secret Goldmine". A down-stroke guitar and drums cribbed from the National's catalog, "Secret Goldmine" was an unrequited [...]

World didn't end after all. Ball's in your court Mayan calendar. Brazilian artist Luciano Nakata Albuquerque, aka Curumin, has one of the most diverse backgrounds and unique styles in music today. Born to Spanish and Japanese parents, he grew up in São Paulo and was influence by the sounds of Jorge Ben, Tim Maia, Bebeto, Run-RMC, and the B-522s. At only 8 years old, he formed his first rock band and he hasn't looked back since. ♩Curumin - Selvage [from Arrocha ] [...]

Body Language, Belle & Sebastian, Poolside, Chairlift, the Avalanches, Camera Obscura, Yeasayer, Tanlines. If enjoy any of these bands, you may like Kisses . The LA-based duo, consisting of Princeton 's Jesse Kivel and fashion blogger Zinzi Edmundson, makes tuneful tropical indie rock that’s at once bubbly and plaintive. Kisses’ new single “Funny Heartbeat” realizes a lot of the potential shown by their 2010 debut album, Heart of the Nightlife . Like the songs on that album, “Funny Heartbeat” has a gentle, romantic sensibility that recalls 1970s French pop and an [...]

The press release begins with "finally." Agreed. Not in a negative manner of course, as Kisses , (and Jesse Kivel's band Princeton ) have been touring and writing for the past 2 years. But, in blog years, 24 months is nearly a lifetime. Nevertheless, today is a good day, as the new Kisses tune "Funny Heartbeat" is an infectious ear worm of a late-summer gem. Produced by Saint Etienne's pop wizards Pete Wiggs and Tim Larcombe, the new track is a positive sign of things to come on Kisses' new LP. Their excellent debut [...]

Princeton typically sits somewhere comfortably between The Byrds and Phoenix. Flawlessly arranged and infallibly tight, they are a band that effortlessly moves between the fun kitsch sounds of yesteryear's Carnaby Street and the synth pop of today. This cerebral quartet has now re-released this year's Remembrance of Things to Come as an album of remixes; lending itself broader influences and a spellbinding glaze. Lovingly remixed by the likes of Camera Obscura, Dntel and a handful more, the release showcases eight tracks from the original LP. The amalgamation makes for an intriguing output; some of the band's more manic [...]

There are only 7 days to go until the Olympics things here in London are getting a bit crazy. The locals seem to be finally getting excited about it. In typically British fashion their excitement is shown by you know, making fun of the games. I love that British sense of humor! This mixtape did not come together easily but I think it works. If you enjoy these mixtapes it would nice to hear from you. Tell me what sucks, what's good, how the weather is, you know that kind of thing. [...]

A straight course to the Alps." I have in my iTunes a playlist for Sunday mornings. It's a mix of singer/songwriter artists, some low-fi alternative tracks, and chill-wave pop tunes (side-note confession - Maroon 52s "Sunday Morning" may or may not make an appearance). It's a playlist that's meant to accompany my Sunday morning routine of brewing coffee, sitting down and reading some news articles, trivial blogging while eating a home-cooked egg and toasted bagel. I like my Sunday mornings (well all my mornings ideally) to be quiet, relaxing, and slow-moving. The tracks [...]

So far this year, we've had some pretty amazing developments in the world of indie music.
