My brother and I have a pretty longstanding argument about indie music, or a particular subset thereof, with origins in my recommendation, circa If You're Feeling Sinister , of Belle & Sebastian. usually, it ends with my brother hearing about 16 bars of a song, then bopping his head from side to side, holding an air lute or mandolin, and singing "We play the jingly-jangly tunes...". Maybe I'll have to shoot video of it. Anyway, he would fucking hate Princeton , cos they've got cute up to here, and pose no threat to your daughters, and are the [...]
Who: Princeton Location: Eagle Rock, CA Slot: 4:00pm, Upstairs Why You Should Skip Work To See Them: 5 Questions: Princeton were one of the few bands where I was torn with where to place them in my show. Their sound easily could have fit in the bigger downstairs area, but I have a feeling that forcing them to adjust to fit the smaller, cramped store area is going to lead to a wildly memorable set

New Yorkers Ra Ra Riot are coming to Louisville's 930 Listening Room on December 11th with So Many Dynamos (St. Louis) and Princeton. RRR was just in Cincinnati on April 30th, along with The Little Ones. Ra Ra Riot is a true full band, consisting of vocals, bass, guitar, cello, violin & drums. With all the buzz behind these guys, it's hard to believe they're only 2 years old, but when you've got CMJ support you & Spin saying " Ra Ra Riot is one of [...]
In two weeks the music world will be descending upon New York City for the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon. And while the week is sure to be a jumbled mess of the next great bands for most people I will be covering the entire mess right here so we can keep score of what's worth your attention and what's really not. On top of that the After the Jump Fest (of which I am a part) have set up a couple of
Another literate indie pop combo to savour, well you'd hardly expect anything else with a name like that would you? Princeton come from L.A. but their latest EP 'Bloomsbury' was inspired by a year spent in the English capital. 'Ms. Bentwich' is the second track and what a perfectly orchestrated piece of chamber pop it turns out to be. From the gently tweeting birds that kick it all off to the

indie pop // aural academia It should be noted that the indie pop trio did not name themselves after the Ivy League university, but after a street in their hometown of Santa Monica. Their E.P. however, did not escape academic citation. Named after London's Bloomsbury Group; each song was inspired and based on the lives of one of its members (Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, Leonard Woolf and Lytton Strachey, respectively). Despite heavy literary references, their songs remain light and completely listenable. Surpisingly unpretentious, the album bursts with sweet and slightly tender melodies. Princeton [...]

Last week, I got out to Modified Arts , a performance-art-music non-profit space in downtown Phoenix to see Throw Me the Statue, who are riding high on buzz for their latest CD Moonbeams . Seattle's The Stranger weekly wrote about the band: "TMTS's live show has been described as "Wildly energetic. Live drums, electric guitars, and four-part harmonies replace Reitherman's multitracking, and the able, athletic band switch instruments, add extra percussion, and throw in melodica and glockenspiel with an abandon grounded by serious musicianship." I liked their smiles, energy, instrument switching, [...]

Princeton are a Los Angeles based indie trio. The band has released a few EPs and toured extensively in support of the likes of Vampire Weekend and Joan As Police Woman. Bloomsbury is the latest 4-song EP from the band. With its understated vocals, literate songs, and World music influenced percussion it's very difficult to avoid drawing the comparison to Vampire Weekend. I know that I run the risk of having my indie card pulled for saying this, but I don't like Vampire Weekend. [...]
Dream the Night Away - The Grapes 3.26.93 - Tiger Inn, Princeton NJ On my last.fm account, I received the following message: "Hmm, you seem to be the top listener on last.fm of The Grapes …" I guess that makes me a big fan of The Grapes.
