A scientist worked for years trying to teach a cockroach to respond to verbal commands. Eventually he succeeded in getting it to leap over his finger whenever he told it to jump. Once it learned this, he pulled off it's fronts legs. When he then commanded the cockroach to jump again it took a deep breath and just managed the clear the man's finger. He then pulled off the middle legs and on the command to jump it just about managed to stagger over. Finally he pulled off the back legs. But when told to jump, the cockroach just lay [...]

St Andrew pumped out remixes for both the recent Yelle and Ocelot remix contests - and ended up doing very well in both. Now he is gearing up for the release of his Retro Cosmic EP and has dropped a couple new remixes plus an original in our inbox. Its not much of a secret anymore, but I have to say this dude really shines on his remixes and is one to keep an eye on. Private - "We've Got Some Breaking Up To Do" (Victory [...]
Last night, in a midnight post-Hulk taxi ride from Potsdamer Platz eastward to Moritzplatz, we passed the Bundesdruckerei building on Kochstrasse, which I at first tried to tell my friends was the Axel-Springer building, in actuality the building that comes before the Druckerei. Anyway, this headline leapt out at me this morning, having learned just last night (danke, Oleg) what the Federal Printing Office does (it prints passports and bank notes): Berlin to re-nationalise federal printing plants Why? It's in debt to the tune of EUR 300m (USD 478m) and nobody wants to buy it. [...]

End of Story by Will Hubbard I'm trying to die correctly, but it's very difficult, you know. - Lawrence Durrell Not finishing books is the kind of terrible habit one acquires from an ex-girlfriend. She's gone, but her vices stick around. It's in the same category as drinking exotic fruit juices, or taking muscle relaxants. In a certain way, beginning a book resembles travel to a foreign country—new tastes, new values, new forms [...]

So a new Private music video for We've Got Some Breaking Up To Do reminded us how much we love them. Despite not being fans of the video (you can watch it after the jump... yeah, that's how much we don't like it!), we think they've released some really great music. They're from Denmark, and they have a really nice, dark synth pop sound. They're debut album, "My Secret Lover" has yet to drop in the US, so take this as an exclusive! PS . The lead singer (the easy going, [...]
PRIVATE / We Got Some Breaking Up To Do (2008) [zshare mp3 download] Latest single from the band whose lead singer was the Danish brains behind Junior Senior's initial success. Slap me if this doesn't have Prince and Midnight Star's 'No Parking On The Dancefloor' emblazoned all over it.

Here's Snoopy's Valentine's Mix. Not much to say except that we have a crush on Snoopy. Digital Love- Daft Punk ("Oh, I don't know what to do, about this dream and you. I wish this dream comes true") First Love- The Maccabees ("Are you cool? Symmetricool? Hypocriticool? Analyticool?") Lovefool (Cardigans cover)- Just Jack ("Reason will not lead to solution. I will end up lost in confusion, I don't care if you really care, as long as don't go") [...]
Just heard this great new track called 'Elvis' by U.K.'s These New Puritans . Loving the lyrics! They blend politics, spirituality, danciness and aggressiveness all with one punch. 'We're being watched by experts', 'I'm gonna tell you my secrets'. Reminds me of the illegal wire tapings and such that have been occuring since 9/11 and probably we're our society is heading in general. You know, to stop terrorism. Cameras everywhere watching our every move, just like in the George Orwells classic '1984'. It also deals with spiritual issues like the religious rapture and agnosticism when it [...]

I try to spread the genres out a bit with my day-to-day articles. A little bit of pop one day, a touch of rock the other, and full-fledged electronica the next; diversity certainly makes our lives a lot less tiring. It also keeps me on my toes, disallowing me any opportunity to grow tired or ashamed of one particular genre. Like many of you, I have learned to love it all. Considering that I just featured the irresistible all-girl dance-pop of Girls Aloud on Saturday, I was admittedly a bit hesitant about posting Private so soon. [...]
If you ever went to a church or school dance in the late 80s or early 90s, you may click on this link to be rocketed back to your uncomfortable teen years, when the girls stood on this side of the big room, and the boys stood on that side, and only a few brave souls got out there and did the Electric Slide or the MC Hammer dance. Of course if you could've nerved yourself up to dance with your friends, you might have even had some fun (I never did). This video went [...]

Private is Thomas Troelsen's new band... you may know him from Superheroes or, more likely, as the producer behind some of Junior Senior's greatest hits. He also wrote/produced JaConfetti's "Hold Nu Kay" which you can check out on their MySpace (guarantee you'll either hate it or love it). But ANYWAY. Private is his newest project and has some of that signature Thomas Troelsen sound that you hear throughout all his work. The Downsyndrome Mixxx of "My Secret Lover" filters out a lot of the "fun" of the original - it kinda feels like [...]

I love when I get new music in my mailbox, especially when I like it from first listen. PRIVATE are a new act out of Copenhagen, Denmark fronted by Thomas Troelsen , formerly of SUPERHEROES , who recently disbanded in 2006. Troelsen is a prolific Danish producer, having worked with such acts as JUNIOR SENIOR, AQUA, and JULEE CRUISE just to name a few. PRIVATE were recently signed to Universal, with an album to hit American shores in 2008. DOWNLOAD - Private - My Secret Lover (Downsyndrome Mixxx)

Many times too often, I see people slapping the Joy Division comparison on anything with a morose tone. I'm sure it annoys you as much as it annoys me... but when I first heard Sweden's Audionom , it was the first thing to cross my mind. Unlike other comparisons, however, this one actually makes perfect sense. And it's not the only thing these guys can do apparently. Audionom's Retrospektiv (due for US release 2/20/07) is a collection of their material spanning from 1999 to 2002, and the influences heard can go anywhere from [...]

View original photo I was going to say I had no recollection of where I read about the Privates but I just realized that it was on Out the Other . What caught my attention was probably what will initially grab most people who check out the Privates : the "members of..." thing. In this case you've got Lambchop (respectable), De Novo Dahl (awesome), the Features (even more awesome), and the Pink Spiders (well, say what you will, but at least you've heard of them.) [...]

I wasn't kidding on last night's show when I said that Barricades , the new record by local boys The Privates , is the only new music I've listened to in the last week. Sure, I've been spending most of my time assembling my best-of-'06 lists, but the real reason I haven't been listening to new stuff is because 2006 is pretty much wrapped up in terms of releases. But before we close the book on this year and look to the next, before we click "publish" and send our final picks of the year out [...]
