Having sond-mined our e-mail archive yesterday, let us now slip into the visualisator, a scanner developed by VizViz, a recently spun out gem from DARPA's venerable portfolio of black swan investments. Visualisator transforms the ebbs and flows of our sickly subconscious into lurid imaginary. We hear that Apple has now acquired VizViz, and the next version of the iPhone 5 will incorporate some of its technologies into its interface, thus enabling users to tele-chat in alternate realities generated on the fly from their biometrics. Talk to your honey in elysium, talk to your boss on a Sunday, in a cenobyte [...]
Professor Genius, known best as part of a small vanguard of artists in the middle '00s who made smart, Ital0 flavored dance music that splashed onto so many turntables in the mid aughties, has taken a turn towards the soundscape, the cinematic, and the epic with his release ofHassan. Though the album and song titles reference historical and mythical accounts of the Hashshashin and their founder Hassan-i Sabbah and some tracks draw heavily on Arabic and Persian influences, the double vinyl LP paints its own science fictional world, full of its own intrigues. As an album, Hassan has [...]
A hazy black and white television, freed from it's cheap veneer housing sits awkwardly on a fragile brown table, its cathode ray tube naked and blaring. Through a dust caked window, Attack Ships perch on their gigantic scaffolds, cloistered beasts awaiting an electronic impulse that will signal their initial, sluggish roll away from their moorings. The television shows an orchestra from an indeterminate time performing a single note over and over in a breathless loop. A royal guard approaches the most corpulent Attack Ship, their hard worn uniforms offset by the celestial fanfare that blares over the lashed [...]
Assassins is a displacement from the West German brutalism and Cold War bleakness - industrial wastelands and all - that's usually associated with low key synthesisers and half buried hyperactive drum machines (muted by their very energetic nature). Here the aural aesthetic is tied to the story of the Hashshashin, the Nizai Ismailis tarred by [...]

mirage - "lake of dreams" (download) Another group I don't know a whole lot about, and can't seem to find much info on. They're from Italy, and they had three songs on the Italians Do It Better compilation After Dark (alongside The Chromatics , Glass Candy , Professor Genius and others). This is a nice, 9-minute track (although I wish there were a shorter version out there) to take you into the weekend. Throw some shades on, put the top down, and drive [...]
Think Joy Division as remade by Chromatics - ah, but its so much more than that! Twisted Wires are a raging storm reflected in the retina of a solemn shoegazing guitarist, coiling a mournful down-tuned motif from his spidery guitar strings. In the 80s. With The Horrors making like the spectral ...
Epic post! Epic because Love is Disco, and Disco is the one genre that has united all 4 horsemen of 20JFG in agreement that 2008 was an awesome year for said musical style. Disco hit hard this year with Chicago House making a welcome return to the forefront of dance ...

Making the the Top of 2008 lists is not easy; I've been seeing others, and it's safe to say that for the most part, people's tastes even within the same blog scenes are variating. I find this a good thing, hopefully tastes dissipate even further from previous trends, and I hope that music in 2009 sounds a lot more like this, at least for my sake: Le Knight Club - Rhumba ( alt ) Professor Genius - Orange Coco ( alt ) Check out these guys' myspaces [...]

Hatchback - White Diamond (2007) Young Monday - Zaire (2008) Soft Cell - ...So (1984) Professor Genius - Pegaso (2007) Giorgio Moroder - The Chase [...]

Gladio - Fighting In The North ( alt link ) War music. Archeologically-themed electro compositions on Mighty Robot from self-proclaimed 'Slave Of Rome' Gladio, who very possibly takes his ancient history a bit too far by naming the final entry on his five-track opus 'Time Team Track'. Still, nice to hear '80s-style synth pieces making reference to Tony Robinson , however inexplicable it might seem. Sticking with the '80s synth stylings it's good to hear some new [...]
Professor Genius creates ambient new wave dance party music. He's part of the dance party collective/label Italians Do It Better along with other greats like the Chromatics, Farah, and Glass Candy. The future is here and it's from New Jersey. You can purchase his work on This Is Not An Exit Records. Take a listen [...]

Some more electro you say? Here is Clap Your Hands To The Electricity Vol.5 as usual featuring some of the best remixes, bands and DJs from across the globe. We've got a bit of pop on here with a bassy/funky remix of Kylie by Alan Braxe and a dirty Kissy Sell out extravaganza on an All Saints track as well as some old favourites form Primal Scream and The Chemical Brothers blended together. As well as the well known stuff though, The Shoes and Spitzer are going to get big if they carry on putting tunes out this awesome. [...]
I got the new Black Ghosts single in the post the other day, and like all the others it's brilliant. I was all excited about posting the Plastician & Skream remix, only to remember just now that I posted it a few months ago. Gah! Well it's still amazing. I've a lot of love for the Ghosts, and based on all the singles so far (all of which i've probably posted here... this skull has certainly

Professor Genius is the right hand man to King Morpheus, the ruler of Slumberland. His main jobs are to look after the Princess, Little Nemo, and of course make sure the King's things are in order. However, Professor Genius is also the musical moniker of New Jersey producer Jorge Velez. Jorge creates carefully crafted aural dreamscapes reminiscent of Vangelis and Moroder. Professor Genius First caught our ear with his track 'Pegaso' released on the Italians Do It Better compilation 'After Dark'. The comp as a whole was a masterpiece itself with IDIB [...]

I still can't get over what a MUST the 'After Dark' compilation by the label Italians Do It Better is. It's probably the most bloggable compilation of 2007. Glass Candy, the label's alpha-dog band, is about to blow up since they are going on tour with Architecture in Helsinki. You better download their songs so you can tell your friends that you "knew about them before every body liked them." MP3: Glass Candy - Etheric Device MP3: Professor Genius - [...]

Jersey City based imprint Italians Do It Better are primed to have a big year. Mike Simonetti , DJ and founder of Troubleman Unlimited started the new label which (as of now) focuses mainly on bands with an italo disco sound. I wanted to feature some tracks from the label's roster, from the vocoder heavy Italian duo of Mirage to the subdued horns of Glass Candy 's "Rolling Down The Hills" to Farah 's [...]
Italians Do It Better are gearing up to a release bonanza faster than a speeding spaceship. Lets look upon these releases in some sort of preview way of doing things... I am not entirely sure...
