Who doesn't like to dance? I mean I do, but with my bad back and all I don't get out as much as I used to. But man, do I love to turn on the Rdio and jam out to some sweet tunes. On most days when I am scrubbing through footage for my regular job I like to go through some of my friends' "heavy rotation." Last week I saw two white guys who appear better looking than me, so I can't help myself and put it on. [...]

I first heard about Restless People because I've been following the spin-offs of Professor Murder , mostly because my old lady really digs that band. The band released their a single today, "Don't Back Down," (via P4K ). While it does have a whole lot of electronic touches, which I'm trying to ween myself off of this year, you can still find some knifing vocals, a la the Drums , but with a little less surf to them. Okay, so it's sort of [...]
Tanlines , a new project from two very creative minds, has brought about a strange period in music history. The two guys in question have a strong musical resume; Jesse Cohen comes from Professor Murder, and Eric Emm moved on from the highly respected prog-rock band, Don Caballero. After finally sitting down to listen to the strange new jungle fusion though, it becomes clear and very disappointing to know that after playing bass in the funky math rock band, Emm would move on to make music that feels as if it should be in the background of a Royal Caribbean [...]
![[MP3] Tanlines: "Real Life" + Remix](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2370179_lg.jpg)
I was exchanging tweets and e-mails with Tanlines this past week, and after some SXSW shit-talking and LOL's their debut EP Settings plopped into my inbox teasing me with tasty tunes. Little did I know, half of the Tanlines duo was responsible for creating some of my favorite electronic-infused music years ago as a member of (the now defunct) Professor Muder . Although their earlier forms of artistic expression sound markedly different (I still spin "Free Stress Test" at least once a week) than Tanlines, they've still got the same set [...]

I was born in New England, so I naturally hated New York City growing up (fuck the Yankees and if I hear that Jay-Z song one more time I'll kill a litter of puppies). I still hate mostly everything about the city, but I have to admit that there is some serious music coming out of the Big Apple. I was recently turned on to the repertoire of Brooklyn's Streetlab and although I'm not too psyched about their original music, their ability to put together a face-slapping remix is for realz. Their rendition of Passion Pit's Sleepyhead first caught my [...]
Restless People (Ex- Professor Murder ) are like some sort of exotic endangered cat: rarely spotted, yet breathtakingly beautiful when you finally manage to catch a glimpse. That's why I've included the video of "Days of our Lives", taken from the band's recent CMJ performance at Piano's in NYC. If you remember Professor Murder, you'll remember their astounding ability to incorporate Soca and calypso rhythms into otherwise ordinary indie electronica. Likewise, Restless People draws on that same Caribbean sound, but fills in the rest of the track with some mainstays of traditional dance [...]
I love how once in a while shuffle + driving home in the dark + a song you haven't heard in a while = complete and total awesomeness. Seriously, I forgot how much I love this song: Professor Murder - " Free Stress Test " Oh PMurder, release something else already, okay? And then come to Nashville. Actually, come to Nashville first.

I've been looking for Spring, which is hopefully just around the corner... it's been fairly nice/warm lately, but I don't know if it will last. Here are some great indie remixes, a Daft Punk acoustic cover, and an original. All very highly recommended. Music in line with Spring I think... Download tracks by right clicking and "save as" or what have you... Preview 'em first Professor Murder - Free Stress Test (Harkin & Wolf Remix) [...]

Monday: The Walkmen @ Bowery Ballroom 8pm $20 Listening to You & Me from The Walkmen has been a great pleasure these past couple of weeks. The new album is a sparkling example of the talent these guys posses and is definitely one of the better albums of the year. That said, The Walkmen have always been a better live band then they are on record just because of the passion that oozes from them on
Cowbells will probably never go out of fashion once there are cows or at the very least a NYC band called Professor Murder stalking the earth. The band have a penchant for liberally lining their tunes with the instrument and it adds the requisite madness to what is already a ramshackle jamboree of sound. Must sound particularly satisfying within the sweaty environs of a tight venue when the
Professor Murder - Dutch Hex (Trey Told 'Em) (MP3) | mirror Gregg Gillis, better known as Girl Talk, does this remix as part of the remix duo Trey Told 'Em with his buddy Frank Musarra. Combine Professor Murder's unclassifiable mix of dance, dub rock, and punk with paraphrased lines from Crass and the Smiths, then throw in Trey Told Em' crazy remix shenanigans, and you have a stompin dance
It's been a few days, but I've also collected a few new tunes to post. Envelopes - Party Some bassy-guitar rock with a nice "Total Eclipse of the Heart" reference myspace Ghostland Observatory - Dancing on My Grave At their best on the "if Freddie Mercury were alive (and hung out with Was (Not Was))" vibe myspace Professor Murder - Flex-It Formula Older stuff that I heard [...]

Due to technical error (that's my fancy way of saying I forgot to upload a freakin' tune this morning before I shuffled off to work :P ), there will be no regular Tonegents post today, but Blog-achella, however, proceeds... Professor Murder Who they are: Four sorta robot ant lookin' dudes from Brooklyn. Strange. What they sound like: Now, with a name like Professor Murder, I woulda put my bet on some Dancehall Reggae, [...]

Professor Murder - Civilization Three Professor Murder - Flex-it Formula Professor Murder - That's How They Getcha (Chinkuzi Riddim Version)

Sounds Like: island music and synth pop got into a street fight and Professor Murder was the only one to make it out alive There are few songs and even fewer indie artists that are so funky you have to restrain yourself from making a fool of yourself by dancing. Professor Murder is one of those bands; hard to pin down to a genre and what I only know how to describe as dance music with a slight island music twist. This is the third artist from New York to be posted on SoundSuck this week, but [...]

Masters of all things meant to be struck, the four dance-punk upstarts in Professor Murder (best band name to ever come from a "Mr. Show" reference for sure) are back with a totally new, totally free EP. On a Desert Island . Now, labeling them simply as dance-punk is just plain old stupid, seeing as how they could be simply misconstrued as a band from some island nation from like 20 years ago or a disciple of one Joe Strummer's original band, the 101'ers . Only way more dancey. Or [...]
