Having my recent rant (which hardly was a rant, but rather a quick comment) against cover versions in mind, one could understandably question my decision to post the following track. But trying to defend myself, I believe my complaint was against bands recording cover versions trying to help promoting their own music. Like when you receive a promo mail and the first thing mentioned is that “we recorded a cover of” (insert whatever) and then “oh by the way! We’ve recorded some of our own songs as well”. Can't help it, but those mails are deleted immediately. So [...]

A little beauty and the beast to start the week: Beach House look set to follow in the path of long time pals Grizzly Bear & gain mild indie fame. New LP 'Teen Dream' is due early 2010 on Sub Pop records , we got a little taste last week in the shape of lead single 'Norway'. Sounds like it borrows ever so slightly from 'Big Love' by the Mac. It's bloody lovely: Beach House- Norway (Download) Equally as good is Tom Furse's (The Horrors Keyboardist) remix [...]

Needless to say, not having time to update the blog for a few weeks has allowed the inbox to grow to Rosie O'Donnell-sized proportions. There's no conceivable way I can get it all caught up in a reasonable amount of time with more coming in each day, so I'll just take the wuss way out and offer it up in mixtape form. I will hold back a couple that I'd like to feature in the coming days, so if you're a cyclops keep an eye out for that. If not a cyclops, keep both eyes out for it. [...]

A couple of weeks ago, we went to New Orleans for a friend's wedding. We had a chance to see the World War II museum and the fancy new wing that Tom Hanks helped contribute with and the new theater much cooler than an Imax (it's in 4D!). The picture from above is taken from the museum, and before the trip, I had no idea there was a WWII museum. I guess Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are teaming up again to retell the story of the US invading the Pacific during [...]
New songs from Beach House and Beck? Radiohead and Joy Division covers? A slew of mp3s from some of music's top up-and-comers? It could only be this week's edition of our Friday Mixtape! Yes, we got a particularly epic one for you, and for good reason. This was the week we announced our Top 100 Albums of the Decade after all! And with our Top 50 Songs of the Decade coming next week, there are plenty more reasons to celebrate still to come. NEW Singles: "Norway" by Beach House [...]

My computer has been in the process of dying lately, so I haven't been able to access my music very often or even do simple things like writing documents without dealing with constant crashes, so the blog has been taking a little break, and posting will be sporadic, if at all, until the beginning of December when I get a new computer. Here are a few good tracks I've gotten lately, though: Hot Chip are coming out with a follow-up to the excellent ' Made in the Dark ' and have released the [...]
You may not know the name 'Tom Furse', but you are bound to be familiar with his productions. He is more commonly known as keyboard wizard from The Horrors, and is responsible for the... Project: Komakino began as the solo music project of Kris Kane in March 2007. The project follows a simple manifesto, purely; “To Konstrukt!”. PROJECT:KOMAKINO was unveiled at the now legendary Experimental Circle Club in April 2007 and received high praise. From there Kris has gone on to play a number of gigs with the like minded up folks, such as Ipso Facto, Electricity In Our Homes and Ulterior. The band has been referred to as a group of shadows, clad in uniforms of espionage and driven by the duende. With songs about dystopian futures and darker times, [...]

PROJECT:KOMAKINO are a four-piece band based in the UK "born out of the dark thoughts of a world that could have been...". They're likely quickly becoming one of the key groups in this 2000s revival in an interest in post-punk and new wave, as I had heard of them around through word-of-mouth before getting anything in my inbox! I was pleased to discover not only a PROJECT:KOMAKINO track, from their debut album The Struggle for Utopia , the somber and industrial (not in the genre sense, but in the sense of evoking images of industry and [...]

Project Komakino - Syndrome (Horrors Mix) Last month, The Horrors debuted a video for 'Whole New Way'. Visit Project Komakino on MySpace. MP3: Project Komakino - Syndrome (Horrors Mix)

Born out of the dark thoughts of a world that could have been, Project:KOMAKINO began as the solo music project of Kris Kane in March 2007. After a year of angst and frustrated yet enigmatic performances, the one man band evolved into what is now a four piece, with the addition of Oscar Maya on drums, Jamie McQuade on bass and Andrew Hiles on synthesizers. The band has been referred to as a group of shadows, clad in uniforms of espionage and driven by the duende. Their music is heavily influenced by 70’s British post-punk ( [...]

The turn of the 21st century saw a post-punk revival in British and American indie rock, which soon started appearing in many different countries as well. Bands like Interpol , Franz Ferdinand , The Killers , Bloc Party , Editors , The Bravery and Stellastarr* made music with recognizable post-punk influences, even accompanied by arty, almost Mod fashions copied from original post-punk and new romantic bands. If you follow my blog, you should know by now that I'm a big fan of this kind of music, so I decided to [...]

Klasse! Das Debüptalbum «:The:Struggle:For:Utopia:» kommt im April heraus. Link zur Bandseite bei Myspace MP3-Download Project:KOMAKINO «Penumbra 1»
