...and that omen said it will come out May 4 on Roadrunner. And that it will feature guest appearances from The Dillinger Escape Plan's Greg Puciato, Prong's Tommy Victor, and (on b-side covers) Igor Cavalera and Zyon Cavalera. And, oh yeah, that it will be called Omen. I've never liked Soulfly as much as I love [...]
Rob "Blasko" Nicholson has quite the impressive metal resume. He's played with Prong, Danzig and Rob Zombie, he's played (and still plays) with Ozzy mothafuckin' Osbourne, and he's got his own roster of management clients. I first met Blasko at the CD release party for In This Moment in the Summer of 2008 (he was [...]

Max Cavalara and crew have been really kind to let us into their studio, submitting some studio reports and the latest one is the best yet. We hear Max recording the chorus to one of the tracks, "Bloodbath and Beyond", as well as previews of contributions from Tommy Victor (PRONG) and Greg Puciato (DILLINGER ESCAPE [...]
Prong have always been kind of a weird band to me, just barely a blip on my musical radar. Should they be considered a metal band? I'm not really sure. Prong eventually secured their own place in the '90s pseudo-industrial canon (see also: Killing Joke, Gravity Kills) but the band had firm roots in thrash [...]
Metal Legacies is an ongoing memorial to extreme music pioneers who kicked the proverbial bucket way too soon. [MetalSucks contributor Corey Mitchell managed Eric Powell's band, 16volt, from 1996-1998. He asked Powell to write about his friend and bandmate, Raul Raven, for the Metal Legacies series.] by Eric Powell Life. It goes by too fast and comes at [...]

Cattle Decapitation loses bassist, tour w/ Soulfly, Prong An update from Cattle Decapitation frontman Travis Ryan: "It is time to announce a few things that have been going on in the Cattle Decapitation camp. First off, we have officially parted ways with bassist Troy Oftedal due to musical and personal differences. There is no bad blood and we wish him the best of luck. Filling in on upcoming tours will be our friend Rahsaan Davis. You may have seen him on our recent tour as Troy left tour early [...]

Alright Waveriders, please take you assigned seats. As per usual, our captain on this wondrous flight through cyberspace will be none other than Racer X and by his side will be his faithful sidekick and co-pilot, the Redneck Wookie from Lakeside. Of course, I'll be in the navigator chair, ensuring that these two yahoos will be pointed in the right direction. The Sheriff will be patrolling the cabin to make sure the more unruly Waveriders mind their own business and ensure the safety of the rest of our passengers. Woody will be taking your drink orders coz', well . . [...]

Nine out of ten times when someone tells me that there's a remix album on its way I run the opposite direction as fast as humanly possible. You see, I generally associate the word remix with the music found in dance clubs or the stuff of a self absorbed DJ looking to imprint his own sound into an existing piece of art. Most of the time, the remixed musical release doesn't really offer any new dimension to the original version, so really . . . why bother? But then comes along Field General Tommy Victor and a tactical strike force [...]

by Cosmo Lee Tommy Victor has lived many music industry lifetimes. He was CBGB's soundman in New York in the late '80s before starting a hardcore punk band called Prong. Prong turned into technical thrash and signed to Epic, which would cause endless grief for Victor. The band then morphed into industrial metal, peaking with the influential minimalist riffing of 1994's Cleansing . After years of music industry difficulties, Victor put Prong on hold and moved to Los Angeles. There, [...]

by Cosmo Lee Prong's Cleansing turned 15 yesterday. Does anyone care besides me? Prong is not exactly hip right now. Tommy Victor's bandmates on this record are known more for their gigs afterwards - Godflesh and Jesu for drummer Ted Parsons, Killing Joke and Ministry for bassist Raven (RIP), Fear Factory and Ascension of the Watchers for keyboardist John Bechdel. Still, I have listened to Cleansing for almost half of my life. It is one of the [...]

Strange Days - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Strange Days came out in October of 1995, made about five bucks and then vanished forever. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, ( Near Dark, Point Break ) and written by her ex-husband James Cameron (yea, that James Cameron - she's wife number three of five ). As much as I love Near Dark and Point Break I'd have to say that Strange Days is Bigelow's best film to date. I also think that it's the best thing Cameron's ever written as well, it's [...]
Every Wednesday, your hosts each post a suitably stale video clip that we think needs to be revisited. Click here for more Crusty Clips. by beatmasterspeech (LA) I can't honestly comment on Prong 's post-1996 efforts, but I can tell you Prong from 1996 and earlier ruled my shit. For all you fans of the old Headbangers Ball, I'm sure you remember the "Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck" video that was in constant rotation back in 1994. That catchy bass line comes to you compliments [...]
I wanted to post another playlist this evening, but I see that Blogger has scheduled a maintenance outage. Therefor, I must drop bombs now. Song: Magick Girl Artist: Jarboe Album: J2 Comments: Jarboe's new record is called J2 for the simplest of reasons - it's a collaboration with Godflesh/Jesu mastermind Justin Broadrick. This one's for Jimmy Morbid, as I think he'll dig Justin's piano and electro beats. I've tried to follow Jarboe since her work with The Swans, but she's so prolific, it's hard to keep up. Probably not-s0-surprisingly, my [...]

Paul Raven 16.01.61 - 20.10.07 Paul Raven provided the low end for literally years of my life. His discography is mammoth - Killing Joke in their prime, the short but sweet Murder, Inc. (I probably heard him somewhere in Pigface's muck as well), Prong's Cleansing and Rude Awakening (he and Ted Parsons were such a mighty rhythm section that they also briefly anchored Godflesh), the last two Killing Joke records, the last two Ministry albums. At the time of his death, he [...]
