After fellating Protest the Hero's incredible early-2008 release Fortress for two months solid (culminating in my first ever 5 of 5 horns review ), I was immediately let down by successive announcements that the band would be touring with shit emo bands through the entire summer. Finally someone in the band's camp has come to their senses and packaged them with a lineup that will put them in front of the metal audience that NEEDS to know about this band. And finally, I will be able to go see them live. Lambgoat is reporting a [...]

Protest The Hero "Sequoia Throne" remix Protest The Hero has posted their remix of " Sequoia Throne " here , which will be included in the band's forthcoming remix EP available through iTunes on August 5th. The band released their latest album " Fortress " early this year. fortress was so darn freakin good if you haven't checked it out please do so

Protest the Hero started out when the guys were in high school. They burst on the scene with Kezia , a shockingly excellent "situational requiem"—fancy words for "concept album." That album told the story of a female prisoner's execution from the perspective of the guard, the priest and the deathrow inmate herself. The release of their latest record Fortress took the band to the next level artistically and commercially, legitimizing Protest the Hero [...]
Protest the Hero is a fairly popular Canadian hardcore/progressive/metalcore /mathcore metal band from Whitby, Ontario. 'Fortress' is their second album and the first album I've heard from them. The first time I listened to the album, I didn't like it. That is probably because I don't listen to that kind of metal. I don't like Protest's vocals. It consists of a lot of screaming and growling accompanied by whiny unmelodic singing. The growling I don't mind as much but it's the bad singing that really gets me. They do have a fair bit of good guitar shredding though. [...]
There are three albums that come to mind that form a Parthenon-like monument composed of aggressive, well-crafted fragments of musical explorations. Those three albums include Black Flag's 1981 album Damaged, Metallica's blockbuster 1986 classic Master Of Puppets and At The Drive-In's finale with 2000's Relationship Of Command. It's very rare when albums such as [...]

Because... Everyone's doing it: Burmese monks, Belgian bi-linguists , Pakistani journalists , Malaysian yellowshirts , American anti-torture chaps . Next up: my global campaign against swimming trunks. Meet me at Trafalgar Square tomorrow, 3pm. Come in a scuba suit. Skinny Puppy - Pro-test (from The Greater Wrong of the Right ) Industrial legends spit upon our velvet cushions with piss-flavoured saliva, and a promise to return every night with 10 like-minded recruits until we sign that darned petition. Evaline - A [...]

Let me start off saying that I usually hate concept albums. They usually just come off as pretentious and cocky to me, and I find the bands that release them are the same. However, Protest The Hero is different. No, they are just as cocky (from what I've read in interviews), but their album "Kezia" is actually really really good. Since it is a concept album, it could be interpreted a number of ways, but I'll give my interpretation. Kezia is a woman who gets arrested, for adultery. She is sentenced to death, [...]

Number 3: Protest The Hero ? Kezia Here?s an example of a project that has had a great deal of thought and effort instilled in it in order to create something reasonably fresh from a very tired genre. Metalcore, a word which used to inspire me with anticipation but now unfortunately heralds mediocrity and generic songwriting. However, on occasions you do get surprised by what some bands come up with. Protest The Hero are a band out of Canada on [...]
