It's a rainy Thursday here in Halifax, but luckily being Thursday it means that we've got some videos here to lighten the mood. As per usual, we've got 3 videos, but as somewhat of a change, all 3 are uptempo tunes, which certainly helps with the mood lightening. Toronto's Meligrove Band have recently released a new album, and currently find themselves in the midst of a rather large tour, all of which makes them plenty busy no doubt, but they found the time to make an appropriately frenetic video for the joyfully [...]

’m sure it's happened to every band at some point in their career. It’s the reason many people wouldn’t throw an event in the first place: the deep-seeded, underlying risk that comes with extending yourself to others. It’s the reason RSVPs and advance tickets exist. What if no one shows up? Whether it is your birthday dinner or, say, a rock show in LA on your first American tour, the sting of a poor turnout is very real. But unlike a broken ankle or even a broken heart, you must pretend to be indifferent and remain [...]

Toronto - VOTE OR DIE!!!!!!!! or go to these shows this week: TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB with Funeral Party and Penguin Prison Phoenix, October 25th I was really excited about Two Doors Cinema Club back in May, so I will just copy and paste what I wrote from back then. We have already written about this band before and the hype machine is well in effect as this Northern Irish indie pop band will bring the sweet blend of melodies to a sold out crowd at [...]

It's no secret that PS I Love You is blowing up - Same number, same hood. It's all good. - and quickly becoming the face of the Canadian 902s rock movement. They've already gotten tons of Pitchfork love, glowing reviews from almost anyone that hears Paul's songs (like " 2012 "), and successful tours south of the 49th parallel under their belt. To keep that positive buzz going, the good people at Paper Bag Records decided to get PS I Love You to record a 6-song session [...]

PS I Love You - "2012" In a corner of the Cavalho Forest, I kneel amid dry ferns and open the lighter I bought at a store. The flame stands up like a little soldier. It does not waver. I press it against the sunbaked bark of a fir. I do not do this out of spite or self-interest. I do it for the reason I tore the buttons on my coat; for the same reason as floods through dams, storms through skies, knives through muscle. It is not that the ends justify the means, it is [...]

Frank Yang One of the perks of being my own boss, as it were, is that no one can tell me what I have to cover when I'm out and about, particularly at a festival like Halifax Pop Explosion . And since I've already had and taken the opportunity to see many of the big names playing the festival, I went into this week with the mandate of seeing stuff I hadn't seen before, be it on recommendations from others, positive MySpace first impressions or just because it's located nearby and I'm lazy. The [...]
5. PS I Love You (@ Arlene's Grocery, 9pm); This Canadian duo is very much in the same vein as other hard rocking duos, most notably No Age or Japandroids, though they tend to add a bit more melody to their noise than the rest do. They've already been all over town this week so... Read More
As the name might imply, PS I Love You does "romantic" quite well. (Then again, the moniker might also imply that they're a terrible romantic comedy or a Plain White T's side project, but let's not get sidetracked). However, they don't do romance with sweeping, dramatic soundscapes; theirs is subtly embedded into a form of rock 'n' roll that's fairly rare. Take "Facelove", a song that starts with jangling rhythm guitars and cutting guitar solos, eventually meeting up with two unison vocals singing simplistic lyrics about love. It's romance, but [...]

PS I Love You 'Butterflies & Boners' // The Kingston Sessions PART 1 of 6 Filmed by Mitch Fillion in Kingston, ON Canada. Original version of 'Butterflies & Boners' is on 'Meet Me At The Muster Station' out now on Paper Bag Records.

Robin Sharp The Diamond Rings journey thus far - from viral video through legal scuffle , at festivals at home and abroad - has been documented hereabouts pretty well , I think, but there's still one fairly important - or only important - facet of the tale to be considered - the debut album, Special Affections , which finally arrives next Tuesday, October 26. For an artist who has been so successful with the single format - a new track, or [...]

October 9, 2010 - It was a drizzly night as we arrived at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. The weather had only just turned sour, but Vancouverites seemed to have already resigned themselves to their rain-filled fate for the next several months. I for one was okay with that, because the change in the weather signalled a move from backyards, BBQs, and beaches into the indoor spaces of the city. The bill for the evening captured this sentiment pretty well, a kind of anger-tinged celebration of fall's arrival. Or was it a celebratory-tinged protest of fall's arrival? Either [...]
Earlier today, we announced our CMJ showcase. Next Wednesday, October 20th at The Marlin Room at Webster Hall we will be hosting Your Youth, Grooms, P.S. I Love You, and one very "Bloody Special Guest" (stay tuned to The Daily Rind when we announce the guest early next week). In addition to this showcase, we [...]
Every year the music industry descends on New York City in October for the annual CMJ Music Marathon. Every year some bands emerge to become the next big thing. Whether they play two dozen shows over the course of five days or one really amazing one doesn't seem to matter to much. What really matters... Read More

Joe Fuda And now, a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with a certain record label that is now old enough to drink in the US. Starting locally, with The Rural Alberta Advantage . After one of the best and busiest 2009s on record, the trio has been relatively quiet through most of this year working on the follow-up to their debut Hometowns , as these photos (sort of) attest. But you can only keep road warriors in one place for so long and [...]
