Paper Bag Records In writing up PS I Love You's new album Death Dreams earlier this month , I made reference to the record's more overt prog-rock influence which had only been hinted at on their debut Meet Me At The Muster Station . And while you might assume that growing up in southern Ontario that Toronto's own Rush would have been a logical assumption as influence, that's not the case. As Paul Saulnier told [...]

John Londono I didn't study a whole lot of history in school - to my regret - and the topics I did cover didn't include the War Of 1812. I did, however, take a lot of math courses so I am able to calculate that this is the 200th anniversary of said conflict between the then-British territory that would become known as Canada and the newly-independent United States of America. The precise causes of the war aren't entirely clear to me but based on the musical events being scheduled at Toronto's Historic Fort [...]

Lots (and lots and lots and lots ) of acclaim for the new PS I Love You. It comes as no surprise: the last we heard from them was the "Subdivisions" rescore, of which we wrote, "this short-of-breath cover manages to hang on to the 80s prog-apocalypse while revisiting it with a junkie lunacy that cries out punk! and Casio! at the same time. This is the truest piece of music you will hear all day." Stream Death Dreams over at [...]
Photograph by Syd Kato In the late '90s, Blinker the Star frontman Jordon Zadorozny was writing songs with Courtney Love and released his band’s third album, August Everywhere , back when Dreamworks Records still existed. Growing up, August Everywhere was one of my favourite albums. Filled with twelve tracks of melancholy pop and a guest appearance by Failure’s Ken Andrews, I’ve listened to songs like ‘Below the Sliding Doors’ and ‘All Dreamed Out’ more times than I can count. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for the album didn’t extend to widespread worldwide love, and Blinker [...]

PS I Love You Death Dreams Paper Bag Records I'm going through my notebook, the one I use when preparing reviews, a little black Moleskine with a tattered I Rock Cleveland sticker on the cover, and scribbled on those unlined pages under the heading PS I Love You - Death Dream, are the names of some of the greatest guitarists Rock 'N' Roll has ever known. There's indie rock icons like Bernard Sumner of Joy Division and New Order, and Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine. A little further down the [...]
With the release of their sophomore album, Death Dreams, the rock duo PS I Love You, have delivered fans more of what they loved with the bands dazzling debut, Meet Me At The Muster Station - a gutsy musical homage to their hometown of Kingston, Ontario - an album that received high praise from critics [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
If you follow @psiloveyouband for any length of time on Twitter, you’ll quickly realize that PS I Love You singer/guitarist (as well as chief tweeter) Paul Saulnier is a pretty big fan of The Simpsons , and he isn’t above throwing out the odd quote. He’ll probably appreciate this oldie then, from the episode where Homer designs his own car, bankrupting his long-lost half-brother in the process. Before the Danny DeVito-voiced Herb Powell has the chance to call it a “monstrosity,” Homer describes his car in its introductory commercial as “powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a Nerf ball.” [...]

Tweet Today I intend to get my hair cut. At present I look like a cross between an early 60s Beatle and Stig of the Dump. A trim is well overdue. Also, overdue is some half-decent, punchy, ear harrasingly good indie/alternative rock music. Everything these days is 'post' something; post-punk, post-indie, yada, yada, blah, blah... This hacks me off (admittedly in a relatively mild way, like when you realise that bogey you thought you'd picked is encrusted into your beard). 'Post' suggests that [...]

PS I Love You - Death Dreams By Harry Bainbridge The inspiration for Ontario heavy pop duo PS I Love You ’s second offering Death Dreams is, funnily enough, vocalist and guitarist Paul Saulnier’s nightmares based around his own mortality. Whilst on tour last year he began to experience reoccurring dreams that would shape the direction for the band’s next LP. A suitably dark premise to start from, then. Thus, a dark, brooding, atmospheric instrumental would be the ideal introduction into [...]

Animal Kingdom – The Looking Away (Boombox/Mom+Pop) Signs and Wonders , primeiro álbum do grupo Animal Kingdom , conquistou sim vários elogios, mas ainda em maior número, conquistou comparações. [...]

Canadian heavy rock duo PS. I Love You, comprised of Paul Saulnier (vocals, guitar) and Benjamin Nelson (drums), dropped their latest album Death Dreams on Paper Bag Records today. The disc, a response to their 2010 debut success, Meet Me At The Muster Station , was inspired by Saulnier’s recurring dreams of mortality. Though encompassing a morbid theme, Death Dreams maintains a sense of kickass to it; not your typical this-is-about-death-I-can’t- out-of bed sound that some bands may have produced. It sets off with a dark, looming instrumental, pedals creating a wind-like sound, giving the sense of floating. [...]

On Silversun Pickups 's latest and third album, the LA band shaves the fuzz of their guitars in favor of a more brooding, heavily electronic sound. You can pick up Neck of the Woods and a handful of other new albums out this week, including the second studio album from Kingston, Ontario duo PS I Love You , which according to our Music Director, Don Yates, is another impressive blend of energetic post-punk and anthemic garage-rock with loud, ringing guitars, muscular rhythms, yelping vocals and punchy song hooks." For a taste of their rocking sound, check [...]

Coincidence that PS I Love You 's howlin' wolf of a front man Paul Saulnier's initials are PS? Probably, but you'd have to be a heartless bastard not to fall for the guy. He's passion incarnate, and along with the fierce, fiery drumming of Benjamin Nelson, infuse PS I Love You's sophomore album, Death Dreams , with more life and vitality than its morbid title alludes to. Death Dreams was written on the road, amid the gigging and traveling in support of Meet Me [...]

Hey there! You should read this original post on the hill by going here: PS I Love You:: First Contact A few years ago, PS I Love You and Apollo Ghosts kicked off a Saturday evening at Gus' Pub. For those not from Halifax, Gus' is one of the few venues that keeps its head above water, mostly by balancing a slew of shows that cater to kids looking for cheap drinks and loud sounds, with a consistent clientele of middle aged drinkers that couldn't care less about the band lugging gear through [...]

Originally meant as an outlet for songwriter Paul Saulnier, PS I Love You became a two-piece in 2008 when drummer Benjamin Nelson was brought in to help fill out his live sets. Four years later, after a series of EPs, singles, and a full-length, PS I Love You are back with their second full-length, Death Dreams , set for release this week (May 8th). Recently, Consequence of Sound caught up with Saulnier to discuss the new album, its bigger sound, and his own style of songwriting. I remember seeing you guys in [...]
If yo're as big a fan of PS I Love You as I am (and if you're not- what's wrong with you?), then you're probably keen to get your hands on any piece of their excellent upcoming Death Dreams LP before it drops on Tuesday. I'm thrilled to already have my vinyl copy, but for those in waiting, you've got two pretty great options to pass the time: Feast your eyes on the Canadian premiere of the band's Paper Bag Sessions entry for "How Do You." It's hard to pick a favourite on a record [...]
